Hartford is considered very friendly to members of the LGBTQ+ community. This means that members of the community are accepted by the general public and can actively participate in public life without fear of bigotry.
Hartford is one of the oldest cities in the United States, having been recognized as a township since the early 1600s. As such, it is a history buff’s dream. Many historic sites and structures integral to our nation’s past still stand in Hartford and are able to be visited by the public. Bushnell Park, a 50-acre public space, is the oldest publicly-funded park in the country and is visited by over one million people every year. It was established in the 1850s in response to a need for public gathering spaces. Today the park is a centerpiece of the city and hosts a number of festivals throughout the year.
Founded in 1774, the Hartford Public Library is another major city landmark of yesteryear that is still in operation. The library remains at the same site as its 1957 location, close to its original birthplace, although the community has undergone a 145,000 square foot renovation in recent times and is kept up-to-date with modern amenities such as computers and WiFi. Originally housing the library in the 1800s, the Wadsworth Atheneum is the oldest operating public art museum in the United States. Named after the Wadsworth family, a notable lineage in Hartford history, the Atheneum is known for ancient bronze sculptures, Renaissance and Baroque paintings, early African-American art, French and American Impressionism and more, spanning thousands of years of artistic contributions.
Perhaps no visit to Hartford would be complete without a trip to the Mark Twain House, the former home of celebrated American author Samuel Clemens, also known as Mark Twain. The Victorian house was Twain’s home in the late 1800s and the location where he wrote much of his best known works. Today, the Mark Twain House stands as a museum dedicated to the life and significance of one of America’s most revered historical icons.

The bus runs 7 days a week, from early morning till night time hours, and covers a large portion of the metropolitan area.
