Brookdale South Windsor

Facilities are in very good condition for age. All staff members are exceptional, caring and responsive both in daily contact and medical needs. My mother does feel some meals are repetitive, but that is subjective. Hasn't partaken in many outside activities yet, however she lies the family nights. Currently the overall value is fair but they have already announced a substantial price increase for next year

It was a good place in general, I would recommend them. The woman who runs the memory care programming is very good.

It was a nightmare. My dad was only there 4 days. He fell four time in one night and no one knew but we had cameras in his room. My dad was dead 2 months later. In the short few days there my dad's floor was sticky - likely with some urine and despite asking many times, my sisters and I were the only ones who cleaned in his room There was a nurse named [name removed] who really cared and was so kind and patient to my sweet dad but the aids were not friendly and harsh and myself and my sisters had to tell them many times he has dementia (despite being in a memory care locked unit) and that he needs more time to do things and doesn't always understand what is being asked of him - again because he as dementia. I could go on for days about how horrible it was. There was a really nice looking schedule yet anytime you went to the area the activity was suppose to be taking place, nothing was happening or it was being let by someone who did not engage with the residents. You couldn't pay me to send my dad back to that facility. We were told by [name removed], the director who gave us all of our money back that there is an investigation about the care my dad received during his short time there and he said there will be people fired by the end of the day. Who knows if anything ever came of it but we were so heartbroken and traumatized by what my dad had gone through and wish he never placed him there.

Overall it wasn't good. Partly because of aides with him 24 hr hired by agency recommended by Brookdale.

I would recommend Brookdale South Windsor to others. There is great communication with the family from the staff. My mom likes the food. The only thing to improve is that they need more activities. They have some, but not as many as my loved one's previous facility had.

Our dad is doing great, that's what matters, and we pick this place for location. I would recommend to others.

I love the community. The staff is very responsive and caring. After visiting other communities I picked this "place for mom" because it had fewer residents in memory care, felt more like a home and the staff was warmer.

Brookdale South Windsor has a very caring staff team. They have nice apartments for the residents and a good feel to their memory care. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

My father is currently a resident at Brookdale South Windsor and things have been great! The facility is clean. The staff, from the Executive Director to housekeeping, have been so friendly and helpful. The transition/move in process was seamless. The process was more personable rather than selling me the newest model apartment. The Executive Director really listened to my mother and I about my father and his needs. It is such a family environment, with staff that really care about your loved one. My father was in rehab and could not wait to get back to Brookdale. I would recommend Brookdale South Windsor to others.

This facility is nice for a mobile person who wants to live in a community with lots of activities. It can not handle individuals whose condition changes and person needs more care. There is no nurse on site during the night so they can't do hospice, although that was mentioned up front. It is extremely expensive for the care. I also hired a 24/7 aide from another agency to assist, but received calls about staff not getting along. The 2nd agency aide was not very good, but this was the agency recommended by Brookdale. My father was there a little over a month and had 2 hospitalizations while there, so was not at facility very long and very expensive for the short time he was there. Staff was friendly, especially the front desk woman who went above to assist the best she could. I don't recommend this facility for a resident who is used to living alone - best to hire a 24/7 person to live in home, if possible.

They could improve on the quality of the food. They are very friendly and helpful. It's a nice place to be. We picked this community, because of the price.

I know the quality of the food was great overall, I did not have it myself but I know she was happy with it. The fact that it's kept clean and has many amenities and overall the staff was very cheerful and professional. Overall was a wonderful facility.

The community looks very clean and modern, the staff members are great but right now we do think at times the nurses are over worked but everyone is still very friendly and helpful. They have so many activities likes - ice cream socials, concerts, outings, church services everyday, PT everyday and on Wednesday someone will come and make a completely new and excited breakfast for the residents. The community is well established, they have their system down since it is an older facility, but the nurses are just so on top of our loved ones health, they are very attentive.

They have done a really good job at keeping me informed. My mom is in the memory care unit, so there is a lot of extra care that is involved. But they do a good job of staying on top of any issues that arise. We decided to have her care transferred from her primary care doctor to the doctor associated with Brookdale, and I feel like she's getting very good care there. My mom loves the food, and she's eating well. They do a really nice job at keeping them busy in the memory care unit as well. I never could have guessed that we would end up needing care when we did, and everything happened so fast. It was a tough transition to make, but they did everything they could do to not overwhelm me and to make it as smooth and easy of a process as possible.

I think it is worth getting the whole chain of communication. Sometimes they say they can do things, but you have to bring in a 3rd party to make that happen and all of the mechanics get difficult. It is not the fault of the community, but if you are going in knowing your loved one will need more services, that communication is very different for the operational staff vs the sales staff. We eventually got everything figured out.
