A nice community for memory care needs.

My dad liked being at the atrium. I thought he would have received better health care, but I guess that's not what they do. My dad contracted shingles on his face, and it took a while to be treated correctly. Overall, it was a much better place than the nursing home he is in now.... Read more

Cheerful energetic staff, beautiful environment

The facility is clean and bright. The bedrooms are quite nice. The staff are so cheerful and energetic - I can't commend them enough for their positive and caring attitude. [name removed] really enjoys the daily activities, especially the field trips! My biggest frustration is how my husband's clothes and glasses go missing, some forever. [name removed] has lost, I don't know how, two pairs of prescription glasses in less than a year.

Very Good

It is a safe caring community. Very Clean. Attentive staff. But Very expensive though & wish they took insurance. They had many activities for all levels of residents. & kept in touch with us regarding my Mother in law.

Extremely disappointed

My loved one was previously a resident at The Atrium at Rocky Hill and the experience at this facility was not good. I wouldn't recommend this facility to care for anything, let alone a family member. In the 'locked down' Memory Care Unit, my loved one left the facility unnoticed and was missing for over four hours. Incompetency and non accountability on The Atrium at Rocky Hill's part.

The Atrium performs under very trying circumstances

The Atrium of Rocky Hill is a memory care facility only. Ater very trying experiences with facilities that SAY they can handle dementia patients if became quite clear they could not. The Atrium DOES. Now to be perfectly honest its not an experience I would relished but my Mother was safe, observed, engage in appropriate activities, well fed and reasonably happy.

Definitely Consider the Atrium for Your Loved One

My mother has been at the Atrium for 2 years. The location is convenient - right off the highway and close to many stores. The common areas are bright and homey and individual rooms are similar to hotel rooms with private bathrooms. You have the option of a private room or a room for two people; you can bring in your own furniture or it will be provided for you. There is a separate dining room that is sunny and roomy. There is a lovely fenced in courtyard with benches, flowers, a gazebo, shade, seating areas, a vegetable garden and a circular walking path that the residents really enjoy. We have found the staff to be KIND, PATIENT AND HARD-WORKING. The turnover leaves something to be desired but I attribute that to Covid. Performers come in to sing and play music. There are activities scheduled daily such as games, crafts and exercise and there are supervised outings on a van. Their SPECIALTY is memory care. The visitation policy is great. Excellent Covid protocols. It is SAFE.

Dedicated for late stage memory

What really stood out to us in the beginning were the staff members - they were more then willing to above and beyond to meet our families needs. When it come to the apartments there are no options they are all relatively the same size but they are big enough to accommodate two beds. Based on our experience so far we would absolutely recommend The Atrium at Rocky hill to other families .

A Great First Step

The Atrium cares for advanced memory care residents and my loved one wasn't as advanced. There were some staff that were exceptional, and some staff were not. The community itself is large. I was initially told that my loved one would be able to mingle with residents that were not as far along in their memory care health as others. This didn't happen. We ended up moving my loved one, due to they needed a smaller community. I can tell the staff really care about their residents here.

Great Community for parents with memory issues

This is a great community for someone that has memory issues and is in need of memory care. They have activities like games where they engage the people, movie night and live musicians that come in to entertain the residents. They do have outside activities also for the residents. Games, sing a longs, walking club and spiritual services.

Very Supportive During the Transition Period and Very Accommodating

I would recommend the community to others for their loved ones. I would make sure that the community is clear on all the costs. I felt there were a few surprises along the way. There is a community fee, and I don't remember the community talking about that. The staff are good to work with.

I would definitely highly recommend

The Atrium has been great, and they are starting to open back up and bring in live entertainment for the residents. We have tasted the desserts and they are great, we have not heard any complaints about the food. The staff members are very caring, helpful and transparent. Administrative staff has been wonderful and really thoughtful regarding all the families needs. This should be the go to place for people in this area.

Send Your Loved One Here

My loved one was only there for a few months. What I saw I liked, and if he had been there longer it might have changed. My loved one was in a different community due to memory care. The first place he was at the age of 93. The nice thing about the Atrium they take care of memory care until death, unless it is a sever medical problem. The staff seemed to be caring, organized, the atmosphere was so nice. It was like being like home. It was a breath of fresh air and like a family. They had physical therapy and everything they did to try and work with him. This may have been because he was new and I didn't see this at the prior community. The Atrium had evaluate him in every way. There were always some type of activities such as singing, play some sort of game to help with memory. The residents were never in their rooms. They were always trying to make sure they were out doing arts and crafts or some type of activity.

I Didn't Like It

It was a dementia unit. That's the only thing they dealt with. It was smelly and they had dolls and things like that. My aunt isn't on that level. I didn't like that the people were sitting all in one area. I just didn't like it. I didn't like the rooms there. They had furniture in the room already but I didn't like it. I didn't like the carpeting. I didn't like environment in general.

Response from The Atrium at Rocky Hill

December 9, 2013

Thank you for your feedback regarding The Atrium at Rocky Hill. From top to bottom, including the physical building, this community is designed exclusively for people with Alzheimer’s and other forms of dementia. The way we approach our programming and activities, staffing needs, and dining are with this in mind. All of our associates attend ongoing dementia-specific training and we have individualized service plans for each resident. Life at The Atrium at Rocky Hill is structured on the idea that not everyone likes the same things. We know how important activities are to residents with memory impairment, and we build on the physical, spiritual, emotional, and cognitive aspects of each resident. We have the Dining with Dignity program that helps stimulate appetites through colorful china, aroma, flavor, and other visual stimuli. Resident choice-centered menus enhance the experience, as well as the meals being served in a calm dining room with instrumental music. As for the physical building, we have adaptive design features including personalized memory boxes, themed neighborhoods, and secured outdoor courtyards--all of which enhance quality of life and promote the independence of our residents

They Do Not Separate Residents By Care Level

Honestly, I thought it was dirty. I didn't feel they did a good job in separating the levels of memory care. That's all they are - memory care and they have all levels of memory care grouped together which is not appropriate at times. You have people that have memory issues that are still higher functioning, like my mom. It's very depressing as a family member to go there and see what might be down the road and bringing my children there to visit would have been difficult. It might be a good place, but I, personally, think they should separate the different levels They have wings but instead of separating them by wing they just put all of them together and it really was not clean at all.
