The meals were okay. The staff didn't call me when my father fell two separate times. I had to find that out when I came into his room and found bloody bandages. They were also more interested in eating their food than they were helping patients. This wasn't at meal times. It was just during the day or evening. The head of the ward my family member was in didn't know pertinent information about my family member, nor did the facility nurse. I would not recommend this facility to others. On the face, it appears a nice place. They do not take care of their patients in a caring manner.

My loved one was previously a resident at Wickshire Steele Creek. The admissions person was nice. Staff & communication: a few were friendly and answered questions. Most were lacking people skills, compassion, patience and seemed to want to get you off the phone or pass it onto another person only to get an answering machine most of the time. We were over 2 hours away and work full time jobs. Overall, the communication was bad. I left emails and voice messages with no returns. I had to keep calling. The move in process was medium. Half of the staff was rude out of 3 people: 2 rude. 1 helpful. The meals were fine. Clothing, upon leaving, my loved one only had 5-6 items of his to take with him. Shirts and jeans, 1 pair of socks and his shoes. Who knows what happened to all of his clothes! That's a problem in most facilities. Waste of an elderly person's and family's money. The facility smelled fine and seemed clean. Once checked out to relocate, I signed a form for medication that was left belonging to my loved one to be sent to the facility that he was moving to. Then I was billed for a month's worth regular prescriptions that didn't even leave with him. The bill wasn't paid for, over $400 to Omnicare, by my loved one as he didn't leave with what he was charged for. It's a beautiful facility, but I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.

I showed up for what their Website described as an “open Wednesday “ I.e. tour without appointment. They had nobody available to do a tour. The (legally mandated) bulletin board in the lobby had a notice from the state indicating they had lost their license in [date removed], reinstated in February. They are not currently taking new patients. They also do not accept Medicaid patients. I assume this is because they cannot meet the requirements. I had checked on this place a year or two ago. Medicare had given them an advisory back then. I’m stunned and confused that “A Place for Mom” gives them such a high rating.
Overall experience: ok, a lot of turnover... currently there is uncertainty, apparently they are under investigation, facility could be closed sometime this year. Friendliness: very friendly and pleasant staff Quality of care: overall good care... I think the more the family is visible and present, it impacts the overall care of the resident (I am there all the time) Food: mediocre at best... Activities: they seem to have a good amount of activities (my father does not attend) Value for the money: I think it should be based on individual needs-... I feel like I pay a lot for the room itself, my dad is very still independent and so he does not demand a whole lot of care.
Staff kept changing without notice, incorrect meds given, pretended not to receive emails and ignored my phone calls. Made my Mom sick with bad food and was hospitalized with no notification to the family. I will never refer anyone here ever. The staff that cared for my Mom was good to her but the new Administrator was very flip and uncaring about my Mom and her overall care. Wickshire changed Administrators 3 times in one year. Not a good look and was a very unpleasant experience for family and my Mom. My Mom got e-coli from Wickshire and it was downhill for her from there. Then they rejected taking her back. She's was pretty okay prior to that.

Overall I'm very satisfied- really nice staff. It the beginning stages of communication there were some unclear or misleading info regarding medication management fees, food, etc. just to make sure questions are asked so that expectations are clear. My loved one always complaints to me that the food has no taste, not sure... it may be an individuals specific taste perhaps... just not my thing...

I am impressed with the staff, cleanliness and comfort given to patients in this facility. My loved one is a difficult case and he's treated well, with respect even he probably doesn't deserve it. I believe my loved one is in the absolute right place.

Be sure to visit in the morning and late afternoon. Very different feeling and people working. As with everywhere, you will find really good caregivers that are good at their job and others that probably should not be in this career field. There's been a lot of change over just in the four months we have been here in leader ship and staff. I truly believe they're trying to fix some of the issues that they have had at this facility. Making an effort gives hope that they will be able to staff positions with the right people.

They did have some water damage recently. The pipes froze and burst a few weeks ago - but that was no fault of theirs. Other than that, things are going pretty well so far.
They had staffing problems, which have seemed to level out. They are working hard. The food could be better. They can improve by adding, more fresh veggies/fruits. The staff is very friendly, and thoughtful. They havel limited outside space, and the residents don't have transportation. So those are other things, that theycan improve on.

My loved one loves the food. They have a family room, where residents can watch TV. It was a slow procees, with getting my loved one moved in. It's a great place, and my loved one is doing much better than at previous facility. I picked because of the price, which was a big concern,, and it was a place where my loved one would be comfortable. It is the perfect place for your loved one. [name removed] from APFM was very helfpul.

The cleanliness is getting better. It's very expensive. The staff is very friendly, they are willing to listen, and don't brush you off. They are always willing to offer suggestions, and work together with the family. The financial assistance, could be improved. We chose this place over others, because it's close to our home, and is a very good location.

My loved one was there for a short period of time. I would not recommend this place to anyone. They left him in soiled in his undergarments for over 12 hours constantly and then he got bed sores due to this. I had to take my loved one out of this place due to this. They did not take care of him. He was left with food in front of him during meal times, they didn't have a proper lift to move him. They would be picking him up and pulling on his arms and legs to get him up. They are understaffed and the staff they do have is temporary agency staff members. This place should be shut down!
Our family had an in person tour and everything was good, we really liked the way the community was set up but the only difference was the price which is why we went with another community.
I was not impressed with them at all. It really felt like a traditional nursing home. When you walk in, the smell of body odor hits you right in the face. I knew right away this wasn’t the place I would put my mom. Surprisingly, there was not that much of a difference in cost compared to the place that we chose, which was so much nicer.
I liked that Wickshire Steele Creek was close to where I lived. But it looked really small on the virtual tour, and then in person it was just teeny tiny. I was also concerned that they had wood floors instead of carpeting, which could be an issue if our loved one fell. But the Executive Director was very accommodating. And I liked that it was a smaller community. But the rooms were too small, with just enough room for the bed and a very small dresser.
The community went above and beyond to take care of our loved ones. The community had a good covid plan and did an amazing job keeping the residence safe. I would definitely recommend this community to others

My loved one called the police, because they felt like a trapped animal. The med tech was withholding one of the medicine that was just to prescribed to him. The med tech stated to my loved one, when I was on the phone, that I don't care what your family says. I'm not giving you this medicine. They didn't give me a call to check on my loved one. I only received a phone call to pick up his items. They finally let my husband go check our loved one's room and they finally allowed my husband to pick up the belongings of our loved one. They were willing to have us leave some of my loved one's items. My loved one's heartrate was so high, due to the agittation from the community. The hospital let us know that he was on his way to Congestive Heart Failure. My loved one prior to him leaving with the police, he packed up his items and left it at the front desk. This is what the community wanted us to come pick up that night. My loved one only stayed one night, and the community still charged us for two nights. The community didn't smell like a nursing home, but didn't have a homey feel either. I did leave a voicemail, but never received a phone call back from the staff.

We have been extremely pleased with the care my father-in-law has received. They are very patient and deal with his confusion and agitation with calm redirection and distraction. Dealing with Alzheimer's can be very frustrating for family members, but allowing someone else to provide his care we can now be his family again. They have an amazing staff an a very spacious locked unit. When we leave him, we know he is safe.
