Their call buttons for the residents at the beginning didn't work. So the only way to get help was if someone came and checked on my loved one. The facility was taken care of, except for their outdoor areas. The regular staff have been very friendly and are so helpful and provide great care. The meals are average. In December, policies are changing and there will be charge for residents to eat in their rooms. I think the overall cost is average.

[names removed]l have been incredibly helpful resources for me during this stressful transition. The way that all the staff interacts with residents and their families shows genuine care and they are legitimate experts at what they do. If you need assistance with any part of the assisted living or memory care transition process, you can rest assured knowing that the team here will absolutely have your back. They will help you to work through any worries you may have about placing your loved one and will build strong friendships with them to get to know them as much as possible so they can provide the best care possible. I have visited many facilities in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg area and Charter is truly the best that I have personally seen.

Response from Charter Senior Living of Charlotte
September 19, 2024We're glad to hear we delivered such a great experience. If there's anything further we can do for you, we are happy to help!
As a third party provider for Charter Senior Living of Charlotte over the last three years, I thoroughly enjoy my time with its seniors, families, and staff on a weekly basis. Charter's care staff are always willing to learn and grow in order to provide the best care and quality of life to its residents. Its location is minutes away from Uptown and South Park making its location very convenient and appealing. Their on site Primary Care Provider helps accommodate and provided timely care for its seniors to avoid frustration of transportation and back logged doctors appointments. Charter of Charlotte gives a small family feel where everyone knows each others name. Next time you are in the area, check out Charter of Charlotte for your loved one!

September 18, 2024Hi Jamie, thank you for sharing your positive experience!
I walked in on a Sunday afternoon and the staff had all the residents in the MEMORY CARE watching Game of Thrones. All them sitting on their behinds while watching a violent slaughter show!!! We were mortified. Also want to add that once they kicked my 83 year old father out of memory care for behavior issues (not sitting silently in a wheelchair) the nurse at that time (name removed) refused to speak or share notes with any other community making it almost impossible to place him. He lived in the ER at Presbyterian Novant for 30 days!!!! This place is disgraceful.

Response from Charter Senior Living of Charlotte
August 30, 2024Hi, thank you for sharing your positive experience! We hope you have a great day!
I feel so bad for my loved one's experience at Charter Senior Living of Charlotte because the lady that did the intake was super nice and I thought was so knowledgeable. When I called her about all of my loved one's falls she had no idea of them. She told me she doesn't have anything to do with the clinical part of the place. How can one hand not know what's going on with the other?

July 2, 2024We are disappointed to hear of the negative experience you and your loved one had at Charter Senior Living of Charlotte. We'd like the opportunity to discuss this with you. Please reach out to Adrianne, Regional Director of Operations at 414-477-7270 or afleming@charterseniorliving.com. Thank you again for bringing this to our attention and we hope to hear from you soon.
My sister has only been a resident at Charter for a short period of time, but so far it has been a favorable experience. The previous facility that she was living was good, but the rate increases after the first year became financially draining on her.

April 3, 2024Hi Pennie, thank you for sharing your experience!
I'd say it was an overall good experience (for the situation) the residents were always clean, I'd say the biggest issue was disappearing items / laundry but that is the nature of memory care I would have liked some fresher / healthier options - I realize it is institutional food but it seemed heavy on fried items at times.

April 5, 2024Thank you so much again for your feedback! We hope you have a great day!
The sales specialist [name removed] is amazing! I was way out of my comfort zone looking for a place for an 87 year old. She has no family - no one. My boss had as her 5th grade homeroom teacher. She has kept in touch after all these years! She didn't respond to calls so we did a wellness check and learned she had fallen and been in her house for 4 days before medics found her. We found her on day 18 at the hospital! I called [name removed] desperately looking for a space for her. I had no idea what her medical concerns were - there were so many conflicting reports. [name removed] was so interested in the story and caring for this sweet lady. When I didn't have the basic of answers, she kept saying no worries. When I told her I wanted to move her in 3 days - across state lines - she said it can be done, but it was aggressive. We did it! Couldn't have done it without her positive attitude and her matching my pace. I wrote to her boss as well. She is just an angel. And speaking of angels - [name removed] at the front desk is a gift from heaven! Again, having no idea what she needed, we were nervous leaving her alone. [name removed] jumped in and helped us find help sitting with her in the night so she wouldn't get scared or try to leave. She buys things when she needs them. She is just joyful, patient, understanding and an answer to prayers!

Friendly caring staff who go out of their way to develop a rapport with their residents. Always responsive. They are completing a renovation. All of the areas that need improvement should improve once the renovation is complete.

February 9, 2024Thank you for sharing your positive experience! Thank you again for the great review!
Lots of problems there. Very short staffed. Staff not trained well to help Alzheimer's residents, etc., etc., etc. My adult children were there a whole lot caring for their dad because staff didn't. They saw it all. They put on a show when a tour is coming. They make a nice meal with nice plates and silverware, music on. Other days it's flimsy paper plate, cheap plastic forks that break in your mouth. No music! They brought in extra staff when an inspection was coming and cleaned things up. They need to come unannounced?? Also, one person got outside alone at night when doors are suppose to be locked. Alzheimer's patient. They kept that quiet but my kids saw it all.. this place has the lowest ratings. I believe in the 30's Also, missed giving my husband his meds at times or very late at night! Terrible place!

This is the place that feels most like family. Beautiful and clean, but most importantly, everyone here is so welcoming and warm. I have been to other communities and lived in other states, but this place is head and shoulders the best I have experienced.

This was a great community, and I loved it. The staff and admissions were wonderful. This was too far for family to visit.
They're very caring people. They had all the right precautions in place for Covid, so we felt safe there. It was a beautiful facility. Both the inside and outside were very well maintained. They had a very robust calendar of activities, which was one of the reasons we chose them, for all of the social opportunities they provided. It was expensive, but definitely worth it.

September 8, 2021Tynetta - thank you so much for the wonderful review. We love what we do each and every day. Our residents mean everything to us and we are honored that you selected The Social at Cotswold!
The tour of The Social was great. But it was further away than what we would have liked and I did not feel they would be able to provide the level of care for the price that they were asking for.
Response from Charter Senior Living of Charlotte
July 17, 2021Thank you so much for reviewing The Social at Cotswold. We are glad to hear you enjoyed your tour of our community. For the Charlotte market, we offer very competitive pricing and pride ourselves on the level of care we provide to our residents. As we always appreciate feedback, please feel free to reach out to me directly regarding your concerns.
Mistakes every step of the way. Facility falling apart. Mixed up my moms file with another resident. Conveyed incorrect information. My mom became a different person here the short month she was here. Health declined tremendously. Lost 22 pounds in a month. Could barely “shuffle” around. Once I moved her to a better facility, within two weeks gained back 10 pounds walking like she was 20 years younger and generally 10 times happier. I’m not sure what they did to her in there. On top of poor ability to do anything successful, employees don’t seem to care that they are so bad at what they do. All the way up to the president. She will continue a trail of jobs in depressed, failing facilities. Please consider any other options.

July 9, 2021Dear Matt, Please know that it was very difficult for us to read your review. We take all feedback seriously, and we recognize the importance of our role in caring for older adults. Our team is comprised of people who have a special place in their hearts for older adults, and we collectively hold a core belief that every breath breathed serves a purpose. We equally value you and your feedback, and we want to ensure that you are heard. We want to take this opportunity to let you know what we provide and expect from our team. We take great pride in our community as a safe and healthy environment for both our residents and our team members. The State of North Carolina completes surveys of all senior living facilities on an annual basis, and our State survey has reflected no negligence related to our residents since ownership. Furthermore, when I assumed the role of Community President, I invited the County Monitor to our community to provide guidance and insight so that we can continue to follow all county guidelines for assisted living and memory care communities. In addition to requirements mandated by the State, Thrive Senior Living maintains its own standards of care, as well as rigorous policies and procedures to ensure we do our best every day for those who call The Social at Cotswold home. We also maintain an electronic filing system for all resident files to certify resident information is correct, confidential and personalized -- ensuring proper care is given to each individual. Recently, our investors and our pharmacy completed an audit that confirmed zero issues regarding medication management in the community. To further enhance the resident experience at Thrive, we implement a process called “Deep-Knowing” in which we get to know each resident individually, resulting in a personalized care plan that meets and exceeds their daily needs. We understand that when a resident moves into a senior living community, the transition can be challenging – uniquely impacting each resident. At The Social at Cotswold, our team members work diligently to make adjustments easier for our residents upon move-in. As part of the move-in process, residents spend time with each leadership team member, receive frequent check-ins, and introductions to their neighbors to help them assimilate to their new home. Families are also kept up-to-date on their loved ones’ status. We do our best to make sure that it truly feels like their forever home. While we are disappointed to hear that your mother no longer calls our community home, we are happy to learn that you have been able to find a senior living setting that you feel is best suited to her. All the best, Karen Gore
Really nice area of town. This facility felt like home, nice front porch, numerous separate areas inside to sit and do things. Our contact person knew most if not all of the residents. All our questions were answered. It was a really positive tour.

July 1, 2021Thank you so much for touring our community and for the kind words! We hope to see you again soon.
Everyone was very nice. The main caregiver was good and I liked her. The community was comparable in some aspects to Sunrise. Our experience was during the pandemic and short time period.

A Place for Mom has scored Charter Senior Living of Charlotte 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
