The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Staff members obtain education in a number of subjects. These include: infection control, 26 hours of training plus a competency test, community emergency procedures, and emergency evacuation. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities , the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s health care provider for residents who require special diets, meals must be adapted to residents’ food habits, and meals must be adapted to residents preferences. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as communities must document such assessment, monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , medical examination report, and community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community .
