We had one little glitch with the head nurse. She wanted to move my loved one into memory care after two weeks, but their admissions director and acting ED said he didn’t need that. So I was able to talk with them, and that was the end of it. I was already paying for extra care, but it was like the head nurse didn’t want to do it. But that’s all been settled now. My loved one seems happy there. He likes the food a lot, and there are all sorts of activities and things for him to do. Most of the staff that I’ve met are very very nice and accommodating. And they’ve been able to hire additional staff since he moved in. Like every place, they've been understaffed, but it seems to be better now.... Read more

Learn how to take care of dementia patients. By day 6 my father was at the ER so dehydrated that he couldn't stand up. By day 6 my father had a bed sore (he was NOT bed ridden) that went untreated due to lack of communication/neglect at The Hickman. My father suffered at The Hickman due to their lack of care. I would not recommend anyone put their loved ones at the Hickman.

My Aunt has had a smooth transition and getting the swing of things. She seems to be happy with it. The staff is very good at knocking on her door at meal times to ask if she is coming down. And they also try to engage her to join the daily activities. It is kept clean with no odors. This community is very homey feeling. The food is good some days, some days it's not but they have alternate choices. They have a nice patio and a big piece of land that backs up to the elementary school named Friends School they come and sing for them sometimes.

Response from The Hickman
February 6, 2020Thank you for the review. We would be happy to send you our updated activities calendar. Please email [removed] if you would like a copy. Have a fantastic day!
Our loved ones were at The Hickman for a time, but unfortunately it did not end up working out. They try to have a more hands-off approach to care here. While they may work well for those with a lower level of care requirements, our loved ones ended up needing a more proactive approach. Our loved ones got to the point where they needed a lot more follow-up and communication than what they provide here.

A Place for Mom has scored The Hickman 1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
