Recent reviews of Assisted Living in Henderson, NV
Sterling Ridge in Las Vegas, NV
5.0

My spouse and I were previously residents at Sterling Ridge and the experience and the facility were both great. However, the facility was too far away from where most of our activities, church and doctors are. We ended up moving to an apartment complex that is in a more ideal location for us. If we need to be in Assisted Living in the future, Sterling Ridge would definitely be on our list to go back to.

Merrill Gardens at Green Valley Ranch in Henderson, NV

My dad was only there for 2 months, but I have no complaints. He didn't do a lot. Was just getting used to it. The weather was cool, so he didn't do much outside. It was a nice facility, large apartment, and the food was fine.

Overall experience was very good. Really like the all inclusive pricing. And I would definitely recommend Escalante to anyone.

How people pay for assisted living in Henderson

Let’s guide you through payment options that families typically use to cover their ideal assisted living community costs. These options start with personal income sources, which can sometimes be combined with other senior benefits like Social Security, Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits, Medicare, and Medicaid. Use this section to learn what may apply to your family’s situation, browse application resources, and create a combination of resources that works best for your family.

Private pay methods

Most seniors and their families look to their personal income sources first to cover costs of their ideal assisted living situation. Sources such as investment returns, saving accounts, Social Security benefits, pensions, and the options below are typical ways seniors pay for assisted living:

Understand Nevada laws and regulations for Henderson assisted living facilities

Learning about Nevada’s assisted living regulations can help you choose a Henderson community you’re comfortable with. Use the information below to help you find licensed assisted living facilities in Henderson that follow local laws, adhere to regulations, and can safely meet you or your loved one’s needs.

Licensing and grading system

Assisted living facilities in Nevada must be licensed under the category of Residential Facilities for Groups by the Bureau of Health Care Quality and Compliance (HCQC). The license ensures each community provides qualified senior care. This fact sheet on Residential Facilities for Groups summarizes the standards of these assisted living communities in Nevada, as outlined by the HCQC.

Nevada’s Division of Public and Behavioral Health ranks residential facilities with an inspection-based grading system. Inspectors note concerns on staff and safety with the following grades:

  • An assisted living facility with an “A” grade has either minimal or no concerns.
  • Those with a “B” grade have multiple concerns or issues with their administration that may cause harm to residents if left unaddressed.
  • To earn a “C” or “D” grade, an assisted living facility must have several issues with their administration, concerns that have already caused harm to residents, or both. After receiving a “C” or “D” grade, the facility must be reinspected until it receives an “A” or “B” grade.

Residential support requirements

Assisted living communities must meet seniors’ evolving needs and reduce the likelihood that they’ll need to move to another community. These communities are also required to foster their residents’ independence. Therefore, assisted living facilities in Nevada are not allowed to admit residents that are bedridden, require restraint, or require 24-hour skilled nursing care. The exception to this rule is if the senior qualifies for HCQC-approved hospice care.

Room requirements

Senior residents’ rooms must be at least 80 square feet for a private room. In a shared room, there must be at least 60 square feet of floor space for each senior resident. Shared rooms can’t have more than three residents.

Caregiving staff

Nevada assisted living facilities with over 20 residents need at least one employee on-site who’s awake at all times. Caregivers must be at least 18 years old and complete care-related training, such as CPR and first aid. If the facility provides memory care, staff should receive specialized memory care training on Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

Inspection reports

The Nevada Department of Health and Human Services (or DHHS) inspects each Residential Care Facility for Groups before it’s licensed. These facilities are also inspected after a complaint has been filed. You can find public inspection reports in Nevada’s Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) Provider Search Form. To navigate this search form, select “Health Facilities” under the Business Unit search criteria, select “Residential Facility for Groups” under the Credential Type criteria, then enter the name and the address of the facility you would like to learn about.

COVID-19 regulations for Henderson assisted living facilities

Henderson encourages its residents to stay up-to-date with testing and vaccinations to prevent the spread of COVID-19. In Henderson, there are several local pharmacies and vaccination sites that provide both of these preventive practices. Stay updated with the local guidelines by visiting the City of Henderson’s website.

Each assisted living community may have their own COVID-19 guidelines, so we recommend contacting a prospective community directly to learn more. In general, there are a few guidelines that all Henderson assisted living communities are urged to follow:

Masking. Each assisted living community should have their own masking guidelines. Contact a community you’re interested in for more information.

Social distancing. Families and visitors should visit residents in outdoor settings if possible.

Quarantining. Residents should quarantine for 14 days if there are suspected symptoms or there’s a positive COVID-19 test result.

What to expect from assisted living in Henderson

Henderson offers lifestyle-enriching assisted living communities, complete with opportunities to make each senior’s retirement fulfilling. Enjoy the ideal balance of independence and daily assistance in an apartment-style community with multiple on-site care and service options, as well as full social calendars.

Types of care at Henderson assisted living communities

In Henderson, 83% of the assisted living communities in A Place for Mom’s network provide multiple senior living options all on one campus. For instance, an assisted living facility may also have on-site memory care and independent living wings. These communities tend to be larger and offer an array of service and amenity options all in one place. This helps to connect seniors with different needs, leading to a greater number of relationships.

The remainder of Henderson assisted living communities in A Place for Mom’s network are in stand-alone facilities or residential care homes. These options house smaller numbers of seniors and offer a more intimate setting, whether it’s an apartment-style building or a homelike environment. Because these communities are smaller, they typically only offer one type of senior care. However, care services may be more tailored to each individual as the environment can be more personal. These communities are sometimes preferred by seniors overwhelmed by the idea of moving into a larger, more populous community.
