5 stars for all! The staff are super nice and caring. Only one negative would be that I think they need someone to man the door, sometimes it takes a while for them to let me in when I ring the doorbell. Sometimes I have to ring several times. If staff is busy I understand the patient care comes first, but there needs to be someone assigned to let visitors in.

Sundara Senior Living in Round Rock, TX
5.0

My father joined the Sundara community a week ago. He is very happy there. He told my sister that they they treat him like royalty. It is a loving community where he gets the best care possible. The staff goes out of their way to ensure he has everything he needs to be well cared for both physically and emotionally. Because he is their first diabetic resident, they are having all the med techs trained in how to perform blood sugar testing. I think that says a lot about their desire to provide the best care for each individual resident and their individual needs. Now that I know my father is safe and is being well cared for, I get to go back to enjoying being his daughter, instead of his caregiver. I love my evening visits that we spend laughing and enjoying being with each other. The decision to move him was hard to make, but the right thing to do. Selecting Sundara Senior Living was the best decision I could have ever made for him.

The Delaney at Georgetown Village
5.0

My Mother, [name removed], has lived in The Delaney for 1-1/2 years. Mother is 99 years old. As an only child I was needing some assistance in Mothers Care. Thankfully, I found The Delaney. I cannot say enough about the care she receives. She started out in Independent Living, had to move to Assisted Living, and now in Memory Care. With every move the Staff was so helpful and made sure the change went smoothly. For the first time in two years, I can leave town without worrying about her care. Management is top notch ?? I can depend on them to answer my calls at any time, or get back in a timely manner. They bring in such quality entertainment for the residents. Elvis was in the house!! And the residents loved every minute of it. Thank you Delaney from the bottom of my heart [Name removed]

However, there are many ways to cover the costs of memory care, including private payment methods, VA benefits, and programs like Medicaid and Medicare. Understand Texas laws and regulations for memory care facilities

Memory care facilities in Georgetown are licensed and inspected by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. Memory care facilities must have a Type B assisted living facility license. This specific license is for facilities that house people who may need help during overnight hours and cannot follow directions, and need assistance in case of an emergency evacuation.

Memory care facilities must adhere to the regulations put forth in this Texas Administrative Code and this Health and Safety Code. These same codes apply to assisted living facilities. The only difference is there are additional standards for facilities that provide memory care, called Certified Alzheimer’s Assisted Living Facilities. These additional standards apply to staffing, staff training, activities, and the safety and security of the facility itself.

Memory care facility standards

In a facility with 17 or more residents, two staff members must be available immediately to help any resident who needs assistance. Otherwise, a specific ratio is not specified. However, facilities are expected to have sufficient staff to meet the needs of all residents. Staff members are also required to complete training specific to caring for residents with memory impairments.

Activities must be provided in a memory care facility that encourage residents to socialize and participate in physical activities. These planned activities must be individualized based on what’s appropriate for each resident and their needs and abilities.

There are additional provisions to ensure the facility itself is safe and secure for residents with memory issues. Most of them have to do with exits, alarms, secured outdoor spaces, and other facility-specific needs to ensure the safety of residents who might be prone to wandering.

To make sure facilities are living up to all these requirements, they are inspected at least once every two years by the Texas Department of Health and Human Services. You can go online to find out how facilities fared during inspections or see complaints on this long-term care provider search portal.

COVID-19 regulations for Georgetown memory care facilities

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have no mandates for memory care facilities, but it does provide guidelines for preventing COVID-19. Likewise, the city of Georgetown doesn’t have specific requirements, either, but does post coronavirus information on the city’s website.

Vaccinations.

The CDC highly encourages people to have COVID-19 vaccinations and subsequent boosters.

Masking.

Face masks are not mandatory in Georgetown anymore, but if a memory care facility wants to require them, they’re allowed to do so.

Facility cleanliness.

The CDC has provided suggestions on ways to improve airflow and ventilation in buildings to keep virus particles from spreading.

Quarantining.

The CDC recommends people isolate themselves for five days if they’ve tested positive or have symptoms.

What to expect from memory care in Georgetown

Georgetown is a laid-back and welcoming community in which to find memory care for your loved one.

Combination options

A Place for Mom partners with 11 memory care facilities in the Georgetown area. While four are standalone facilities specializing in memory care, the rest are combined with other senior living options. This is ideal if a couple, for instance, has one person who needs memory care and another who does not. Four of our partner facilities are assisted living and memory care facilities combined. Three offer independent living, assisted living, and memory care on the same premises.

Safety and security for peace of mind

All our partner memory care facilities are set up to ensure your loved one is safe, secure, and well cared for. Someone will always be awake to provide care for restlessness, pacing, disorientation, or wandering.

Everything you need in one spot

All our partner facilities bring in visiting podiatrists, as well as physical, occupational, and speech therapists. Nearly all provide full medication management and visiting nurses, while 73% provide on-site nursing care. Activity directors make sure your loved one stays engaged with planned activities, and your loved one can also enjoy spots like arts and crafts centers, libraries, or movie rooms.

Transportation for seniors in Georgetown

Transportation can be tricky when your loved one has dementia or Alzheimer’s, but fortunately, 73% of our memory care partners provide free transportation and 9% offer it at cost — which means your loved one won’t be going anywhere alone.

If you’re looking for a way to take your loved one out for the day, you can consider using CARTS. The Capital Area Rural Transportation System operated through Central Texas on these fixed routes. Wheelchair accessibility is a feature of all the buses, and half-price fares apply to seniors who are at least 65 or anyone with a disability.

If your loved one needs paratransit service, GoGeo operates Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. When scheduling a ride, you’ll need to mention that you’ll be traveling with your loved one to provide assistance. Those 65 and older are automatically qualified for GoGeo by calling 512-478-RIDE to sign up.

The nonprofit organization Faith in Action offers rides through its Driving Seniors program. Volunteers will pick up your loved one at the door, walk them to the vehicle, and drive them to where they want to go. With the door-through-door service, they’ll even accompany seniors on their errands or medical appointments and even assist with filling out paperwork if needed. Because volunteers use their own vehicles, wheelchairs can’t be accommodated unless the rider is able to transfer to the vehicle on their own.

Senior activities in Georgetown

Memory loss doesn’t mean that all is lost. Your loved one can still enjoy peaceful moments and fun outings with you, and you’ll enjoy spending time with them. Georgetown features a lot of great options for reminiscing and spending time with your loved one.

Peace and relaxation under the sky

Sip sweet tea in the shade of 200-year-old oak trees or stroll the banks of the San Gabriel River at San Gabriel Park. This interactive parks and trails map can help you pick the best route for a walk; it has some shorter half-mile trails you and your loved one might enjoy. Take in the peaceful views at Lake Georgetown, or cast out a line and see if you or your loved one can get some bass, flathead, or channel cat to bite.

Georgetown’s most beautiful spot

It’s known as the most beautiful town square in Texas, and it just might be! After all, it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places thanks to its intricate Victorian architecture. Take the free tour of the beautiful, fully renovated neoclassical Williamson County courthouse. Use this downtown Georgetown directory to pick up a great spot to visit for food, fun, or shopping

If your loved one wants to take a more literal trip down memory lane, make sure to take them to Pistons on the Square. It features a great lineup of classic cars, muscle cars, motorcycles and more every third Saturday from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. You might also be interested in checking out Market Days on the Square, which happens on the second Saturday of the month. You and your loved one can go at your own pace enjoying live music and artisan wares.

Georgetown Festivities

You and your loved one will want to take in some of the events at the Red Poppy Festival, which honors Georgetown’s status as the “Red Poppy Capital of Texas.” This weekend celebration is packed with all kinds of fun, from car shows to live music to a parade.

When the holidays roll around, take your loved one out to the Christmas Stroll. This festive local staple features Santa, a parade, live music, food trucks, and more.

Inclusion performance art

In 1925, the Georgetown Palace Theatre opened its doors to show silent films. In 1936, it was renovated in the Art Deco style to show “talkies.” Now, it’s a hot spot for the arts. The theater has been restored to its full glory and hosts plays, concerts, and more. It’s a welcoming place that makes sure everyone feels included and has a great time.

If you think your loved one might get restless trying to sit through a performance, try the free Free adaptive performances that offer shorter, more interactive versions for people with special needs. If sight and sound are an issue, your loved one can use the theater’s inductive hearing loop that delivers dialogue directly into hearing aids that have T-Coils. There is also an audio description, which is a verbal commentary explaining what’s happening on stage between moments of dialogue. It helps people stay looped into what’s going on so they can more independently enjoy the show. There’s also an American Sign Language night at least once for every staged performance.

Experience the memory cafe

Camille’s Memory Cafe is held at the Georgetown Public Library on the third Friday of every month for those living with mild to moderate Alzheimer’s or dementia. It’s a cozy, social gathering for both you and your loved one to connect with others in the same season of life. Each month, something is on the docket, from relaxing dulcimer music to Elvis impersonators, it’s always a fun time!

Treat yourself

Head back down memory lane to the 1940s-style diner called Monument Cafe, where fresh, homestyle cooking is served up. It’s so good that Guy Fieri and Matthew McConaughey dropped by for some King Ranch casserole and featured the spot on Food Network’s Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives.

If your sweet tooth is acting up, head to the Galaxy Bakery for cupcakes, cannoli, and more. Stop by The Yard Milkshake Bar for the most indulgent ice cream creations you’ve ever seen!
