Oakwood Village was warm and welcoming to my mom. The staff were upbeat and helpful during the transition. This includes the aides, nurses, and housekeeping staff. The residents are happy and very friendly. The overall atmosphere is great. Mom loves the food and the staff are very accommodating when she chooses to eat in her room at times. The activities are entertaining with routine outings available to the residents. Mom continually says that if you need to live in assisted living then this is the place to be.
I would recommend this facility -all staff are friendly and helpful. The move in process was as good as could be expected under circumstances-clean facility -housekeeping comes at least twice a week, or as often as needed. The entertainment is great. One thing that is better to me and brings me comfort is that they have nurses on staff over night, some facilities do not.
I would definitely recommend this facility to others. The staff is always friendly and professional. The move in process was a breeze. The housekeeping is great - we've had no issues at all. The meals are okay; my mom would like to see steak and other more expensive meals, but that is not realistic for this type of residential facility. I would appreciate a little more communication when rates, care levels, or key personnel at the facility change, but it is not a worrisome situation. Overall, I am very glad that my mom selected The Claiborne at Shoe Creek.

All Louisiana facilities where seniors live and receive memory care must be licensed by the Health Standards Section (HHS) of the Louisiana Department of Health and registered as Adult Residential Care Providers. Typically, the inspections are only conducted annually, but they can occur more frequently if it is deemed necessary or a complaint is filed. Inspection reports can be obtained only through a public records request.
All Adult Residential Care Providers, for example, must provide 24-hour supervision and design services and layouts to protect the privacy of their residents. They must also provide transportation to medical and personal appointments if residents are unable to manage their own transport needs.
There are also special requirements for facilities providing care for people with Alzheimer’s or related memory conditions. There should be a balance between security and freedom. The policy allows for locked, secured areas. But it also states that residents should be in the least restrictive area possible with documentation required to explain why they’ve been placed there and how it meets their specific needs. Specialized training in how to care for residents with cognitive issues must be provided to all staff. Family support programs should be provided, as well as appropriate activities for the residents.
