A lot of these reviews are outdated. Under the current management things are great. The administrator is helpful and willing to resolve concerns quickly. The director of nursing is super sweet. The nurses and attendants are so nice. My apartment is cleaned regularly and anytime I need something help is quick to respond. The food is good and the place is always clean. I love being here!... Nurse does not help enough and airs don't care if food is served cold nor does administrative. Overall it is not the Place for older adults to me. Very boring. Young administrative Does not know-how to run this

The Pines Retirement Center could improve on a lot. The Pines needs to be more attractive when people come in. Needs admission with smile so people feel welcome. Needs Social Work that's helps people. A consular to talk with people to help them express needs.. All works on floor needs different uniforms with name tags to know who they are and what they do. Have works standing around not doing anything wasting time and money. Admin needs less paper and listen when someone wants to talk a minute with him. Activities are in bad shape. it needs to include everyone and give paper in morning to remind ones that are able to come. They love Bingo that lasts awhile and get small prizes. This opinion is mine plus about 10 residents and hope it helps to improve.

I had the pleasure of touring this facility. I was greeted by the Director of Nursing and she was extremely friendly, professional, and with a great smile. She explained the set of the the facility and all of the things they offered to the residents. The facility was clean and did not smell like I was in a facility … it smelled like home. The Director of Nursing was amazing and if her staff is half as great as she made me feel. I am looking forward to moving there.

The director, [name removed], has a positive attitude, and made the place wonderful. He was very good to work with. The food was good the few times I ate with my loved one. They were willing to accommodate requests that I made. My loved one enjoyed the staff that took care of them.

Our family was displeased with care our loved one received at Colonial Care Assisted Living. He had been there for 4 years. Below is recap of review: 1. Asked aide to place meals on bedside table, not on dining table, where resident was unable to walk over to reach. This was done some time but not always 2. Resident was not changed every two hours as originally stated. 3. Almost every day he had soiled bed sheets to be washed but they were not washed until a set time giving room a terrible urine smell. Family member had to take home and wash because of smell. 4. Fell 3 times. 5. Asked aide to change bandage on his left arm which he injured when he fell from bed – no one ever came to change bloody bandage while we were there. 6. His room frequently smelled of urine when members of family arrived to check on him because wet clothing and bed sheets were put in a clothing basket and left there until the employees washed only on certain days. 7. On two separate occasions, meds were found that had not been taken a. One was on bookcase headboard b. Another was in bed sheets on another occasion 8. Found journal where last blood pressure taken was recorded in January 2015. This was in June 2017 when journal was found on side of the apartment range. 9. When visiting one Sunday, we found the resident’s bed was totally wet with urine, as well as all his clothing. My family and I changed it all. 10. 84 year-old resident was left to sleep on bare, wood floor all night because aides said he refused to let them pick him up. We do not know how he got on floor from his wheelchair. 11. Family was unaware he had not seen a doctor at facility for some time until family made an appointment for him to see a doctor outside the facility. 12. There were four different directors in the 4 years the resident was there. But in all fairness, the present director, [name removed], is desperately trying to run the organization better than the 3 previous had done. 13. No one in the family can recommend this facility to anyone who really cares about their loved one.

This is a nice community with a caring staff. My mother is doing well since her move here, and overall I'am satisfied with all they have done for us. The staff is great, they check on her very often. The aids are taking good care of her, and her needs. They do a good job with the cleanliness around the community. They provide nice meals, and good activities for the residents. This community is working out well for my family, and I would recommend it.

My mother has recently made the move into this community and she is really enjoying her self for the most part. She enjoys participating in a few of the activities they have available and loves the bingo with her friends. They chef does a great job with the meals and makes sure that all of the residents have well balanced and nutritious dinners. I would recommend this place to anyone interested.

We are at day 10 of my mother in law's stay @ Colonial Care. My biggest concern is there is no communication with the direct staff caring for her. I have made numerous calls & left messages with only one call being returned. Some things don't seem to be as was told to me during the initial visit & interview of the facility. I hope this makes a turn around very soon, if not, I will be removing her from that facility,

Although the food could be of a better consistency, the staff is wonderful (at least on the assisted living side, where my mother-in-law is). It seems that the people on the nursing home side are also very friendly and helpful. My mother-in-law, who is quite demanding, is getting used to living there after the sudden death of her husband. Since she is legally blind, she could not remain in her home of about 40 years, so getting used to depending on others is not easy for her. But Keri [removed], the director of the assisted living side, is making it as easy as possible for her, which we appreciate. We also appreciate the pricing; the best in Baton Rouge!

We were able to re-schedule our tour for Thursday at 11.30. Even though we actually showed up at 11 am Kerie welcomed us graciously. Although this in an older facility it is clean and well-maintained. My husband had a ministry there when it was under another name and management and it always smelled. Not so now. The staff is very friendly and the director Kerie Meyer knew everyone she saw by name. The cost is more than reasonable. I think my husbands mother will be happy here. There is a distinct division between the nursing home part and the assisted living part which I know his mother will appreciate

It was a little rough at first, but the care is better now. It's definitely better than it was at the last place she lived. It's also less expensive. So we get better care for less money.

They are good at what they do, but it turned out that my father required a little more care than what they are able to provide. As a result I am currently packing him up to move him elsewhere.

I gave this place a good review earlier and now I want to take it back. They charge you 2k a month for literally nothing. They talk up a good game and say how they do all these things...and they do little to nothing of it. In two months, they cleaned the apt once...it is suppose to happen weekly. They refused to clean the bathroom. My 70 yr old mil had to clean her own bathroom. She might as well get her own apartment. They give little to no care in assisted and can't even help an old person who weighs about 140 lbs off the floor when they have fallen without hurting themselves. Seriously? What the hell are we paying them 2k a month for? What part of assisted living do they not understand. My mil could get a regular apartment for half the price for all the "assisting" that she is getting. And as soon as the lease is up, that is exactly what we are doing. Oh and to top it off, the director told a man dying of brain cancer that he had an attitude problem and had the choice of being kicked out or sent to a psych ward because he had fallen and did't help the ONE aid who came to help him... to lift him up... He didn't help her to help him off the floor. He was dead weight. Could it be that he has no balance and was afraid to move? The director admitted he had not fought against being helped up...he just didn't help either. So he needed to be in a psych ward... are you freaking kidding me??? They seriously need better administration for the assisted living part of this place.

They are doing well. My mom is more active than she has been in years. One thing that I noticed is… it’s a lower cost community, but they could have more staff It seems like a safe place and reasonable cost and that kind of thing. I do think their food selection is a 3 or so, based on my mom’s reporting.

My experience started out fine, but went down after awhile. Their issue is being under staffed, and I think the Pca's are not well trained with all aspects of of dealing with dementia and Alz. this means taking the good as well as. The very difficult of all resident situations. They really need to have more compassion in their work. It's not there.

We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score.
