I would definitely recommend this facility to others. The staff is always friendly and professional. The move in process was a breeze. The housekeeping is great - we've had no issues at all. The meals are okay; my mom would like to see steak and other more expensive meals, but that is not realistic for this type of residential facility. I would appreciate a little more communication when rates, care levels, or key personnel at the facility change, but it is not a worrisome situation. Overall, I am very glad that my mom selected The Claiborne at Shoe Creek.... Read more

Our first impressions of the Claiborne were favorable. Check in day was a nightmare. No one came to show him around, introduce him, explain things. A staff member came to take him to lunch, he didn't come back, we thought they were finally showing him around. But, they had taken him out to a porch by himself. By the time we decided he'd been gone too long & searched for him, he had been sitting outside, by himself, in the Sept heat, was sweating profusely & had no idea where he was or what he was supposed to do. Later a nurse visited, apologized & said all this happened because the supervisor wasn't there. The super came in to see us later that day & we were convinced (because we wanted to be convinced) to let him stay but that night they had to sedate him because he was agitated (didn't know where he was). 3 weeks later, he was in hospice, a week after that he was gone. We will forever regret leaving him there. Our only consolation was that he was ready to go & we were exhausted from travel & 24/7 duty while with him. The people in assisted living seemed happy there, but the dementia placement was a mistake for him & us. A costly mistake at over [fee removed] for the 3 weeks. The activities rating is low only because he enjoyed what they provided but was rarely asked if he wanted to attend. The meals looked good, cleanliness was good, some shabby spots where repairs weren't finished, smell was not an issue, but as in most placements such as this, clothes were lost several times even with his name on EVERYTHING. This has been hard to write. Our memories of his final weeks are not good as we imagine him feeling isolated, abandoned, confused, & alone. Maybe it was truly just his time but we can't help but feel like those 3 weeks there contributed greatly to his demise.

At first glance this place looks beautiful, but think twice before your put your family member there, especially the memory care unit. They are out for money with zero regard for their residents’ health or well-being. My grandmother’s room was filthy. At one point, her furniture was covered in mold from the humidity in her room. We complained several times and nothing changed. She was rarely, if ever, bathed. Staff turnover is constant. The employees seem disinterested and under qualified to work with people with Alzheimer’s and dementia. There were a few excellent employees but they never lasted long. Trying to complain or discuss issues with the directors is a waste of time. They do not care as long as the outrageous payments continue coming in. In fact, they will yell and threaten to ban you from the facility, or threaten to fight you. The memory wing residents sit alone for hours because they are so understaffed. Don’t be deceived by the pretty exterior.

This facility is phenomenal- we are unbelievably happy with our choice. My mom loves it there and we feel good knowing she's safe, cared for, and happily involved with a community of new friends. The staff at all levels is always nice, polite, and friendly. They really do care about the residents. And the administrators are very helpful with the details that need to be handled during the transition.

The Claiborne is a very clean community, and even though we did not have first hand experience with the meals the menu always looked good. However our loved one was never really included or encouraged to participate in the activities. The community was not the cheapest in the area but also not the most expensive. We had such a good positive vibe from the tour - we felt this was the place for our loved one, but from our loved ones first day to their last we had reoccurring problem. We felt the level of care they received was not adequate and not worth the amount of money we paid. Our loved one was not welcomed on move in day, we were not given any information on what to expect and we just felt sad and disappointed.

Everyone from the nurse , to the director, to the person who got us signed, even to the front desk and the activity director on everyone is amazing and goes above and beyond. My loved ones enjoy the happy hour and they even let us join on Christmas day to dine with our loved one. My mother enjoys all of the activities and the social hours. They decorate for the holidays and the residents are able to participate. The only thing is I wish there was more outside activities away from the community or field trips.

September 6, 2022Thank you so much for taking the time to share your experience with The Claiborne and our team. We appreciate your kind words and are delighted that your loved one joined The Claiborne family.
The community is kept clean, we have had no problems with the staff they are friendly. Sometimes the people who handle the laundry service lose some of our loved ones clothes, but that is about the only issue we are having. We haven't been able to be there for meal time but by the sound of it are loved one is enjoying the meals. She is always participating in the activities they offer.

This is a real nice place. The staff and residents are friendly. Depending on the level of care your loved one may need this could be a good place for them. The food is pretty good for my loved one.

Response from The Claiborne at Shoe Creek
March 10, 2023Thank you again for taking the time to let us know how we did. We hope you have a great day!
At first I fell in love with the community. The location was perfect, and the facility was fantastic. But I was not pleased with how they handled my loved one's behavioral issues upon move-in. And I had to move her out pretty much immediately. Listening to them, I fell for all of it. I think they probably are a great place, but I don't think they can handle certain dementia-related issues. The director was fantastic, as well as the main nurse. But since then I've heard they've had some turnover. They were helpful in finding a place for my loved one to go, but they just couldn't handle her needs.

March 10, 2023Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experience with The Claiborne. We are disappointed that your experience was not optimal and hope your loved one has found a safe and comfortable home.
We're having a good experience. It's a new facility in a good location. Everything around us is very convenient. You have your bank, doctors, Walmart, drug stores, and restaurants all nearby. It's close to where our son works as well. They have a very good staff. I appreciate the Executive Director, Assistant Director, Community Relations Director, and all of the kitchen staff. Particularly the maintenance staff has been very helpful to us. But we appreciate them all. They're doing a good job. The food is very good. They have a wide selection for us, and they prepare everything individually to order. So you can substitute and get most anything you want. Overall I think the price is commensurate to what they provide for us.

March 10, 2023Thank you for taking the time to comment on your experience with The Claiborne. We appreciate your feedback!
There are not enough words of how to express the care, friendliness, and cleanliness of The Claiborne at Shoecreek. My mother is very well cared for. Her room is spotless and the place itself is immaculate. The nurses are always on top of her care physically and mentally. I thank God everyday that we chose this facility. During the covid-19 they were very firm and caring for their residents. No outbreaks here for sure. I recommend this beautiful, clean, and loving place for anyone!!!! Brenda Felps
