Only been at HH for slightly over a year but have found all the nurses and staff to be very friendly and helpful, always willing lend me a helping hand when I need it. I enjoy the many little features that are provided, which are not provided in other living environments. Every week a new menu for all the meals for the ensuing week, an Activities calendar the month with live entertainers at least every 2 weeks, exercise programs almost daily, games and social get togethers, and religious sessions for those who want them. In all, HH is organized to help the residents enjoy their stay. I almost forgot to mention the providing of transportation to medical appointments off campus. This has allowed me to sell my car and save money. The drivers are friendly and our chats have been enjoyable. Needless to say, I like HH and living here. It is now HOME to me.

The Villa St Elizabeth in Reading, PA
5.0

Two months ago, my mother was living by herself in a first floor apartment. Things were going pretty good for a while and it took her some time to adjust to the fact that at 72 years old, it was time to retire. She has had 2 major lung surgeries that put her in a rehabilitation hospital for 2-3 weeks each time but seem to be getting through it. However, 2 months ago, she started forgetting things and started to take her medication incorrectly. She had several falls at home and the last one almost did her in. She went to rehab again and it was clear she could not live alone. My sisters and I could not care for her in our houses due to several issues. We found the Villa at St. Elizabeth and they were our savor. We toured the place and talked extensively with the manager about our mother. It was extremely clean, not a spect of dust or dirt anywhere. the place is an old maison with traditional victorian furniture for the residents to enjoy. A quiet sunroom, large living room with a fireplace an dgrand piano, a library with floor to ceiling shelves stocked with book, a beautiful dining room with table cloths and old vistorian panneling. We were there around lunch time and it smelled wonderful. They had a room available within her budget and the admission process was very smooth. After moving Mom in, the staff could not do more for her. They are extremely friendly and always willing to go the extra mile for the residents. The activities offered are endless and there is a ballroom for special activities. It sits on 8 acres of land and I cannot wait to see what it looks like in the spring. It took Mom a little time to get used to the new place, but she has made many new friends and can still go to outside activities herself with the help of the local senior citizen transportation company. I may also add the the chapel is beautiful with padded pew seats. I would recommend this facility highly and they have a web site for more information.

I can't recommend the community due to the way we exited the community. We had multiple attempts to reconcile a balance due and it was never resolved and we never heard back on a resolution to this.

Nursing Homes

A nursing home offers lodging to at least two seniors who have no familial relation to the administrator. A nursing home facility provides its inhabitants with care by registered nurses. These caregivers provide care for seniors who are unable to care for themselves due to their aging.

Nursing homes can be a helpful and comfy care choice for individuals 65 years or older, however nursing homes will often take in persons 55 and older which is uncommon for other senior care types. The most frequent mental disease effecting residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can hinder their decision making capabilities, and familiarity with their surroundings, and memory function. Some services come at an extra cost which can include special care services not included in the facility’s Medicaid payment, specially prepared food, and flowers and plants. Often times individuals may choose to live in a nursing home due to a physical or mental impairment that makes it difficult for them to accomplish their standard of living. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to have protections against involuntary transfer or discharge, to manage your money, be treated with respect, and get proper medical care. Nursing homes are required to provide nursing and related services, room and bed maintenance services, medically-related social services, and specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability) to residents.
