From the moment my mother moved in, the staff has gone above and beyond to make her feel comfortable and ease her anxiety from moving from her home after my father died. I am so grateful. Thank you so much!

Grace Village Assisted Living and Memory Care in Granite Falls, NC
3.6

The first impression was excellent. Everyone smiled and was very pleasant. We were given the tour and loved the place which made us bring my mom up to see it. She fell in love with the place and the room in which she was going to stay in. She has been there since December. We have discovered that the communication between the staff and administration was not good. We also discovered that the food was not good and limited choices regarding menu. It is clean and doesn’t smelled. Lots of light and had a few very nice sitting areas. The activity manager is fantastic. Has a lot of activities for the residence who want to participate. I did visited a couple of other facilities and did some comparisons. It was the best facility for my mom who has dementia. It does have a memory care attached which will be available when the need comes.

Carolina Care Retirement Community in Cherryville, NC
5.0

Carolina Care Retirement Community is very clean and maintained. A great value for the price. The other nearby residents are friendly and quiet. The staff has been very helpful from the time we requested information through now. The housekeeping staff is efficient, dependable and trustworthy. The move-in was well planned, with keys being provided upfront and follow up over the next few days to ensure a good adjustment. The two meals per day is plenty with many options. Having it delivered to the door is a great option also. I would highly recommend this place for someone downsizing or needing Independent Living, but with meals and care being provided as needed.

Complete guide to nursing homes

Hickory, North Carolina

Nursing Homes

A nursing home provides residence to two or more seniors who are not related by marriage or by blood to the administrator. A nursing home facility offers its residents 24-hour care administered by on-site nurses. These caregivers provide maintenance, personal care and other health related services for people who are unable to care for their own needs because of their aging.

This type of facility is a helpful and comfy living alternative for persons 65 years and above, however nursing homes will frequently allow access to individuals 55 and older which is uncommon for other senior care types.Often times seniors may select life in a nursing home due to a mental or physical disability that makes it difficult for them to accomplish their lifestyle goals. There are some services that may come at a cost to residents which can include personal reading materials, a private room, unless medically needed, and special care services not included in the facility’s Medicaid payment. Many occupants of nursing homes might have behavioral difficulties, which can consist of resisting care, verbal outbursts, or a tendency to wander. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to make complaints, get proper medical care, to manage your money, and be free from restraints. A large number of residents are bachelors or widows who have smaller social support groups, and about half of nursing home residents are older than 85 years old.
