Nursing Homes

A nursing home is a complex that provides housing to two or more seniors who have no personal relation to the administrator. This type of complex provides its occupants with 24-hour care by on-site nurses. These caregivers offer specialized care for people who are unable to care for themselves.

Nursing homes can be a familiar and comfy living option for individuals 65 years and above, however nursing homes will frequently admit persons 55 and above which is for other senior care types. Some services come at an extra cost which can include cosmetic and grooming items, a private room, unless medically needed, and flowers and plants. Nursing homes are required to provide emergency dental services, medically-related social services, room and bed maintenance services, and pharmaceutical services to residents. A significant number of nursing home residents are seniors who experience difficulty seeing and hearing, have mental or physical disabilities, require assistance with daily tasks such as bathing, or have incontinence issues. Many residents of nursing homes may have behavioral difficulties. These can consist of resisting care, verbal outbursts, or a tendency to wander. The most frequent mental disease effecting nursing home residents is dementia, which can cloud their decision making capacities, memory function, and and their sense of familiarity.
