In general it seems like a relatively good place after improvements to the food service were made. I would recommend that anyone considering an AL facility would eat a couple meals there to see how the staff and food are, and how the residents interact with each other during meal since this is one of the most social times of each day.

My loved one was previously a resident at Urbana Place Senior Living and the experience was very good overall. However, there was a lot of turnover with employees. That was frustrating, but they were working on that. I would recommend Urbana Place Senior Living to others, but families need to be involved and advocates for their loved ones.

What our family likes the most about the Urbana Place Senior Living community is all the new amenities they have to offer. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to others

We picked this community, because of the best combination of location, specific floor plan, amenities, and availability. It has been good, but not excellent so far for my loved one. Services she has been scheduled for have been missed at times but the staff is working on this. Thankfully these "misses" have only been for minor things.

Staff go the extra mile to get to know the residents, most "office" staff even know me, my children, and sister by name and are great at calling to communicate any problems. The facility is clean and well kept. Lots of activities and are open to input on different activities to meet the interests of those who live there. Food staffing is poor, often short with residents, not timely in getting food out before its cold flavor/texture of food is lacking.

My father is a resident at Urbana Place Senior Living. The staff is caring and they are open to communicate with the families. My father says that some meals are better than others, but he did not have to cook them, so they are all great! I would recommend this facility to family and friends.

Urbana Place Senior Living is a nice, clean facility and the rooms are nicer than most. The management is good and does listen to concerns/ issues and works to correct them. The food and dining staff is not great, but I hear that is industry wide. They are working on it with the company that they have a contract with. I would recommend this facility to others, but do believe you need to be involved and be an advocate for your loved ones as they usually can not be for themselves.

My Mother moved to Urbana Place in the Summer of 2022. We toured a lot of local senior living communities but chose Urbana Place for the general feel of the building and the employees and residents we encountered. The building is relatively new, and the Units are large and filled with light. Mom didn't want to leave her place, but needed additional care that a Senior Living Community provides. Having both Senior Living and Memory Care in the same building was also a positive. After only a couple weeks, mom came around and talked about how nice her place was. There is a sense of community at Urbana Place that extends beyond the employees to the other residents. Several of the residents went out of their way to welcome mom into the community and participate in some of the many activities that are planned every week. Being a picky eater (and creature of habit), Mom also liked the ability to order "off the menu" with a list of always available selections. Highly recommend.

Response from Urbana Place Senior Living
March 1, 2023Thank you for your kind words. We greatly appreciate it. Sincerely, Urbana Place Senior Living
It was a fairly quick and seamless process in terms of getting my loved one moved in. But some of the services were a little tricky to get set up (computer, phone, etc.) The apartment is very large and very nice. It has tall ceilings and wide doorways, so it's easy to get around. It's very modern and updated. The kitchen has marble countertops and brand new appliances. They do a good job with cleanliness/housekeeping. She's enjoying getting involved in the activities. In the limited interaction I've had with the staff, they've been friendly and accommodating, although there has been a little bit of a delay in them getting back to me. I like the fact that if she needs more care later on or if she needs to see a physician, they can do that on-site without her having to leave the facility.

Response from Urbana Place Senior Living
February 13, 2023Hi, Your feedback is such a great opportunity for us to make sure those areas are covered. This helps me to ensure that the move ins to our community are met with the best costumer service that we can provide. Again, thank you for taking the time to give your feedback. Sincerely, Shelly Tennessen
We are very impressed with the activities and the activities director. On the memory care side they have so many diverse activities since not every resident is at the same level of memory care, she does certain activities with a group of residents, and some activities with another group of residents.

The staff were all very friendly and it is a clean facility with good food. We felt there was not much privacy, people would walk into my loved ones room unannounced. There was no call buttons which we felt was unusual. It seemed to be all about the business and less about the residents.
In the beginning things were not good at all. we had issues on top of issues and was constantly having to reach out to get things taken care of. I don't feel like we got the services that we were told we would receive and we always get the excuse of short of staff and this is something that we can not control. There was just a lot of care for my loved one that was being missed.

A Place for Mom has scored Urbana Place Senior Living 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
