About the facility The Birches at Newtown

The Birches at Newtown provides options for personal care as well as memory care. You’ll find a warm, welcoming community with rustic touches reminiscent of a New England cottage. Cozy, shaded seating on the front porch offers a restful spot while the well-maintained courtyards and wide walking paths provide more opportunities to enjoy nature. Inside, you’ll find intimate seating areas, a grand piano waiting for you to play, and fun spots like a movie theater where you can watch your favorite films. Best of all, this community is pet friendly!

The surrounding area will give you a nice blend of a quiet, suburban life and all the amenities you could wish for. You’ll find several types of restaurants nearby, along with shopping. Newtown, Pennsylvania has a rich history you can explore, too. Visit The Court Inn, also known as the Half-Moon Inn, built in 1733. This restored space serves as the headquarters of the Newtown Historic Association, making it the perfect spot to begin studying the local history. For a fun afternoon, head to the Rose Bank Winery, which has a tasting room located in the historic Buckman Barn. Whatever interests you, you’ll find several places worth visiting just minutes away...

Compassionate care

The staff at the Birches is compassionate and friendly towards my mom in the memory care unit. They meet mom 'Where she is" each day. If she doesn't won't to change into clothes, they encourage her but never force her to get dressed. It may take 3-4 time before she agrees.

Overall I would rate The Birches at 4 out of 5. I recommend you consider it for a loved one.

The Birches ratings would be higher if training and oversight of the care staff were improved. I would recommend this community to other families but but ask a lot of questions about quality of recruiting, training and oversight of care delivery staff. I go directly to staff with concerns and have found them responsive.

Great choice

New staff several in the past months, I'm not really familiar with them. Bad news [name removed] their director of memory care left last week. Big loss to them. We toured several different facilities, and I would highly recommend The Birches at Newtown.

Review for The Birches at Newtown

The facility is beautiful, staff is great with the exception of nighttime and evening staff. They are slow to respond when called if they respond at all. They are understaffed and no supervisor to contact when and aid is non responsive.

Memory care praises

[name removed] and her staff did a great job caring for my uncle in the memory care unit. He was there for only a few weeks before he passed. The facility was clean and the staff was pleasant. He ended up in hospice and the coordination of teams was good.

A Great Place For Mom

More attention could be given to vacuuming rooms and pt hallways. Other than that - good. The staff members are very friendly. The care is good but we had a little bump when several of the residents were diagnosed with COVID. Staff needed to attend to Covid positive patients, delaying care to others. Somewhat understandable. LPN could be more responsive. Dining is very good. Staff awesome. Go out of way to help. Food "bland" per mom but that could be her need for more seasoning. The activities are very good. Christmas show was fabulous - mom loved it. PT and OT are superb. [name removed] nurse practitioner is very thorough and accommodating - grateful for her.

Thank you so much for the review and kind words. Please know that our goal is always to provide 5-Star quality care and services, so we will share your comments regarding areas to improve with our team. Specifically related to meals, we do cook with very little salt, but if your mom has a favorite seasoning, please let us know and we can make it available to her!

Experience at The Birches

I would not recommend The Birches at Newtown for a family member that has a high level of care needs with regards to ADLs. My mother came in at level 4 and they were not staffed well enough to meet her needs timely. The food was good. The activities were okay. I didn't see any outings offsite, as advertised, in 2 months there. Housekeeping was fine. Not a good fit for Assisted Living with high level of mental faculties. My mom found it hard to connect with most of the other residents.

We are truly sorry that your expectations were not met. We recognize that it is difficult to trust the care of someone that you love to others and we take that responsibility very seriously. We will add your comments to our Quality Assurance program as we strive to provide care and service consistently at the highest level.
