After visiting a number of Assisted Living facilities My choice was The Arbors East in Islandia. I’ve been asked, “ What helped me make the decision?”. I would like to say it is a very difficult decision to make for anyone, but specially my 100+ year old mom whose mind is good, but body is changing. The Arbors East is welcoming from the start. All employees are hands on, knowing individuals names and needs. If one is “social” and wants to participate in activities, they are available. Time spent in your room is doable with staff members checking in or inviting one to a soon-to-be activity. Mom will say the food is good and plentiful. Mom’s room is comfortable. When checking other Assisted Living facilities there were additional charges for a number of items (cable, additional medications, telephone…). Most items are included. Fingers crossed that mom continues to thrive here.... Read more

They over medicated my loved one. There was not enough caring or oversight from the staff. Overall it was not a good experience and we would not recommend The Arbors at Islandia to others looking.

This was a very good experience certainly if you don't know what you are doing. They were able to walk us through everything. The staff are personable and helpful to us during the tour experience up until moving my loved one in. I ended up circling back after touring other communities as this was a good experience. There are different people you will work with during the process, such as wellness, to marketing director, and more. The wellness staff are wonderful to deal with. They assist my loved one with the care they receive such as bathing and dressing assistance. The staff make the family have a peace of mind knowing they are taking care of our loved one.

Response from The Arbors at Islandia - East and West
May 20, 2022Thank you so much for taking the time to write such a beautiful and heartfelt review. Your positive review is such an encouragement to not just our entire team, but to the many families that are researching for the perfect "HOME" for their loved one. We are honored to be a part of your extended family. Thank you again!! We appreciate YOU!!
My mother was supposed to go to this community but then she ended up injuring herself. In the end when she was reevaluated they told me that she could not come to the community. They were not able to tell me what the criteria was for why my mother could not come. I even asked when filling out the contract if I had time and I was told I had 30 days and then when it was something that they told me they could not take her for they only gave me a partial refund

May 20, 2022Thank you for reaching out to us here and for your feedback. We are very sorry to hear you were less than satisfied. As per the signed contract should the resident not meet our admission criteria our community would refund the reservation rate on a prorated basis. If anything should change and your mother makes progress in rehab we would love the opportunity to assess her again. Our Executive Directors are always available and welcome the opportunity to clarify any lingering questions you. Please feel free to reach us at 631-582-3600.
The friendliness of the staff is great and the price being inclusive is very helpful. The wellness staff work really well with my loved one and our family and this is great for us and a big part of the community. They have activities at this community like happy hour, movies, national events, volleyball with a large ball, trips out on the community, a pool table and more for the residents to do to stay busy in the community. They also have a walk group and more.

When I toured I thought they were lovely and they were warm and friendly it seemed like a homey facility. Staff started out super nice but then it went downhill. She took 3 falls when she was here. Every time I went to visit she was in the same exact clothes since the last time I was there. I emailed them about this issue and I never got any type of response. When I called to tell them she had passed they talked about billing and were very insensitive. I was disappointed and dissatisfied with their services.

My father was in the transition unit on the West side, 3rd floor. He was there for too short of a time. Each and every one of the employees is caring, compassionate, patient, ready to help anyone and everyone. The Director of Sales worked with us, (my family) every step of the way. When he was out of the facility, (in the hospital) she would call to check on him and happy to welcome him back as was the entire staff! The staff engages the resident and looks in on them if they are in their room to get them out to socialize during the days activities. The food was served restaurant style and the dining area always clean and set for the next meal. The rooms are spacious and clean. And...the price for all of this was amazing!! This facility is one above the rest, I recommend it wholeheartedly!

I've had a good experience so far with The Arbors at Islandia. everyone is so receptive when I call in and they all seem to care for my loved one. It's been a good, positive experience so far. my dad has been a bit hesitant on joining activities - due to some memory related issues - but from what I can see online, they do seem to offer a lot. overall, so far so good. [name removed], our senior living advisor with a place for Mom has been amazing! I see it as fate that she answered my call the day I called into a Place for Mom. my loved one needed care in New York and it just so happened that [name removed] lived in the same area as the communities we were looking into. not only did she know the area well, but she also provided insight on location, landmarks, etc. all from her own firsthand experience. our family reached out to a Place for Mom during a really difficult transition. Thanks to [name removed] for going above and beyond!

We had a good tour experience with The Arbors, but they were not able to accommodate the level of care that my loved one needed.
We had a horrible experience at The Arbors. I felt that the staff were not culturally sensitive and were very bias. I felt that they were not skilled for dementia residents. They even told us that they were only looking for the "pleasantly confused". When my loved one was here he was back and forth from the hospital. I would never recommend them to anyone.
My grandma moved into The Arbors at Islandia East about a year ago and the whole family can't believe how well she's adjusted. She has always been the pickiest eater and raves about how good the food is. She's a very social person, and after my grandpa passed away I could tell she was lonely. When I would visit her our conversations used to be about how her friends had passed away. Now the conversation has shifted to how funny all of her new friends are. She signs up for every trip offered through recreation and is visiting places she never would have in the past. When she's not on a trip she is either playing cards, bingo, or enjoying a bbq in the courtyard. Our family gets together for Sunday dinners and some weekends she's been skipping out because she'd rather be at The Arbors. The staff is wonderful and great at communicating any issues that come up with her care. We could not be happier and can relax knowing Grandma is in good hands. Highly recommend!!

This community had a nice tour and it was a nice facility. This community was expensive. I wrote the cost and the service that was provided and I ranked all of the communities that I was interested in. It just is personally not my way to go. I had to find a middle ground to make the best living situation for my loved one.
Our family had an in person tour and it was nice but location was just to far
We had an amazing tour experience with The Arbors. The staff were so accommodating and did not rush us and answered all of the questions that we had, she even stayed late. They really focus on individualized care and put the patient first and truly care about them getting the best care possible. They thought my dad would be a better fit at their sister facility, so that is the direction that we went.
The staff are absolutely wonderful and friendly. They really care about the people who live here. It is truly a community. My sister was very resistant to this change and within an very limited time she is happy and I don't have to worry about her falling or not taking her medication. I am no longer worried about the quality of life because she has great care here.

We were very impressed with our tour of The Arbors, it seemed like a great place. The only reason we decided against them was because the location was too far.
They could not be more caring or helpful or patient. Everyone that I have encountered there is wonderful, the entire staff. They have activities like exercise classes, themed events, games and daily activities to keep the residents engaged.

We have had a couple of issues, the number 1 issue is that the employees are not coming into my parents room as often as the care plan says because my dad has 24/7 care coming in. My father is diabetic and they keep offering him foods that are not on his diet. He is supposed to get his levels checked 4 times a day and given insulin shots, in the last week they have failed to check 4 different times. They say everything you want to hear, but the follow through is not always there. I would recommend the assisted living side, but not memory care at this time.

They were great across the board. I would highly recommend them. The staff are great. They have lots of activities, and they've provided good care to my loved one. The facility is clean. The only problem is they don't accept Medicaid, and it's not affordable.

There's always room for improvement. But I've not been unhappy with the care they provide. The staff are very friendly and willing to help you with any questions you might have. The other residents are quite friendly as well. My loved one hasn't complained about the food, so it must be good. And I do see activities going on.
