Although Sunrise is more expensive, certainly did not experience the warmth, care or even being outside of the room a lot. Compared to [name removed]... he cried the first day when he was allowed to stay in common rooms after lunch instead of being out back in his room alone.

I don't think they aren't very attentive when it comes to bathing/showering. Not doing it for them, but getting them started. Making sure they eat all of their meals even when they don't want to, at least a little something.

Clean and friendly staff. Residents seemed comfortable. We were visiting to see if this will be appealing to my father. From what we have seen...it seems like a nice place for him. Sales person was engaging and helpful.

My loved one has been a resident of Sunrise for approximately 2 years. She adjusted quickly to her new environment and is enjoying her new home. It gives us, as a family, a sense of peace knowing that she is happy and content. She loves being pampered by the staff. They are there to assist her in the morning when it’s time to bath and get dressed and when it’s time to get ready for bed at the end of the day. She loves having someone to prepare her meals and eating in a dining room full of other persons. She thinks she’s in a restaurant. Since my loved one joined the Sunrise Family, she has required additional assistance in some of her needs. The staff recognized these needs and made immediate adjustments. The staff makes sure she receives the medical attention she needs and is given her meds at the required times every day. Each staff member is responsible for a number of residents, but they make a concerted effort to give all of the them the same level of attention.

Sunrise has been a pleasant surprise experience for myself and our family. This is not the first experience with nursing home care and none prior were acceptable. No place is perfect and not everyone gives of themselves in caring for the aging adults. But our experience with Sunrise has given myself some relief and concerns about how my mom is making it everyday. The staff present and past have exceeded my expectations. Without the care my mom is receiving, I'm not sure what type of existence we would be in today. I feel the Staff knows that we have the upmost respect for the manner in which they care for my mom. My recommendation for this facility is very high. As stated, no place is perfect but I have peace of mind knowing my mom is safe and cared for here.

My parents moved into the Sunrise (Pikesville)in December 2023. My husband and I had been touring possible assisted living options and we prefered the overall package at Sunrise(apartment size and layout, activities, nursing and medical supports, and the option to transition to memory care). During the transition process from independent living in their own home to a brief stay in our home, my mom’s dementia progressed to the point that the staff recommended placement on the memory care floor. Based on the staffs, perspective and advice, my parents were able to avoid an additional move. I am so thankful that my parents can live together in the same small apartment on the memory floor, where my mom receives special care and my father lives more independently. The staff is consistently kind and caring and the facility is always clean and tidy.

My dad calls Sunrise home. That’s a great review in and of itself. My dad is safe and cared for here. So appreciative of the third floor staff and administrators for all their great work. He has lived here for two years. [name removed] are supportive to me and add so much to dad’s quality of life. I am thankful for their professionalism and dedication to my dad’s wellbeing. Everything about Sunrise of Pikesville has been great, but our loved one does say the meals are not so great which is why we gave it an overall 3 rating. The community has a very friendly atmosphere it is always updated. The staff members have really good communication as well.

The staff at Sunrise of Pikesville is very good to my father and, as I have observed, to others as well. Some residents want it now, so not everyone can be pleased. My father understands that he is not the only one they wait on. They have a daily menu for each meal which offers a variety of items that the residents choose from. They have 3 meals a day and family brunches monthly. The move in process was fine. They lend moving carts and have elevators, depending on the floor they are on. The facility is dated, as far as carpet and décor, but clean. I receive various emails to keep me informed of events and information that I may need for my dad. I have also had a call to ask me how things are going. So, the communication with the family is good. Overall, I would recommend the facility to others. They have a range of men and women that they cater to and they provide care for all kinds of different circumstances.

I would def recommend SR to others. I have one major concern that I know is a general prob across adult care facilities. There is significant staff turnover and vacancies exist within SR. Staffers sometimes are rushed. Our family recently found prescription meds in my mother's nightstand, indicating that staff had not observed her taking her blood pressure medication. Recd call from Exec Dir & Head of Nursing Staff after sending email about our concern, indicating that they would further educate staff. A Place for Mom worked with us to identify good places for people with dementia & we went on several visits. They were a an excellent resource. Our contact there was very empathetic and responsive.We also wanted a friendly environment, good inside & outside security, nice rooms and good food. Budget was also a consideration

When we first got there, we were very anxious. This was a whole new situation for us. But they walked us through it. There was no pressure. The tipping point was my family member had a cat, and she was allowed to keep her cat, which meant the world to her. She loves the food. And there are plenty of activities. The staff are excellent. Every one of them greets you and is friendly, and if you have a question, they promptly answer it for you.

The administrative support is not the best. I have had difficulties with the billing department, and having phone calls returned related to my mothers care. I realize they are understaffed, but I think they could be more responsive to families. However, I am very pleased with the conditions, meaning: cleanliness and her apartment. I am very pleased with the meal services. Staffing is a little low and that's one reason why they have difficulties responding to phone calls. The memory care coordinator is very good, but she doesn't have the adequate staff to back her up and she can be hard to reach. They sent out a memo to all families saying its difficult to be staffed up in this climate and I know that. It's important to note that I asked for a meeting with the executive director. And that seemed to really address a lot of the problems, but I did have to go to their boss. I realize it is not an easy job, but if they would have responded in a timely manner I wouldn't have had to reach out to their boss. Once that happened, they've since been much more attentive. It took repetitive emails to staff before I had to take that approach, but should a family member have to do that? I was a manager before I retired and I don't like to go over an employees head. Once they did a good job, I did make sure to go back to their manager and let them know that they were more responsive, but it was still frustrating to me that I had to go to the director and it makes me worry about my mom. She has increasing dementia. One example is: she was really upset about noise and I couldn't get anyone on the phone to address it. The phone rang about 20 times, I didn't know if the front desk were staffed all night or who answers. It was really confusing. It took me about 2.5 weeks to get set up with the executive director because the staff were not able to answer the questions when I could get ahold of them. It's important to note that she was on vacation during part of that time, but there was no back up on an executive level (as far as I could tell). Billing was also a mess, I told the boss that staff are doing the best they can, but I don't think they are fully equipped. They lost a check for about [price removed]; they never tried to cash it or anything like that, but it did result in the payment never being applied to the books. All in all - I'm administratively frustrated, but the care is very good. For A Place for Mom: my advisor was outstanding! I have never done anything like this before ever. I've never looked for long-term care, I didn't know the terminology. I didn't know anything, and my father had just passed so I was nervous. The lady who took our case was so outstanding, she helped me calm down and find places to look at - she was awesome. I can't thank her enough for the skills she showed during that time in need. She was the best.
