Overall experience -There were some members of nursing staff that were rude. I believe her first name was [name removed]. While the director said they would staff up for mom's care, she was often left unattended to on the weekends. They did not have the staff to care for her needs and we removed her in spring of 2023. The facility was clean. Some staff were very nice. Others not at all. And several of the aides did not speak English so difficult to communicate. The dining staff was good. Some of the aides were very nice, but this facility simply wasn't staffed for the level of care my mother required. Again, the level of care we needed was not appropriate to the facility. I don't know why they ever agreed to take her. Additionally, whenever I requested a meeting with the nursing staff, my messages went unanswered. We have since moved mom home with private caregivers and are spending 1/10 the cost. And she has no bedsores because we are changing her regularly.

The nursing staff was terrific. 1 head of housekeeping, I was not impressed. My father was there for 2 weeks, I requested a meeting with her and did not get it until he had been there a week (he is there for 2). I supplied gloves (came from hospital with a catheter), body wipes; for the first week there was no one to help him bathe, he was still in a wheelchair and very weak. I asked for a bath chair for him, in the beginning (that would come from housekeeping) after a week, we don't have one. I had to order one overnight. My dad said the one time they helped him, they were rough and there was no care. I am sorry, let's treat our older adults with some dignity. I think it was because he was temporary so aid's didn't cared. He did not participate in the activities, and it is too expensive for what our loved one received. A note: not all the aids were bad. When I went in I received a bill and was told all charges were included. I have since received another invoice with more charges but no one has called me back on it.

Response from Sunrise of Paoli
September 30, 2024Hi, We take your experience at Sunrise of Paoli very seriously and would like to review this matter closer. Please contact info@sunriseseniorliving.com so we can promptly review and address these concerns. – The Sunrise Team
Poor communication. They basically left my 91 year old uncle alone 24/7 and didn’t care if he ate or left his room saying that it was his choice. The food was generally stale sandwiches. He arrived in hospital scrubs, they put his wallet somewhere that nobody could find (they eventually did). There were some documents that the VA required be filled out by the care giver to release funds to cover his housing. We contacted them regularly for 3 months and got one excuse after another. The care docs were never completed. My uncle subsequently passed away while in their care, the VA could not process his housing stipend (never did receive his VA wellness documents) the place was dated, dark, and depressing.

I believe they do the best they can. I think the turn over rate with the staff is normal. I don't know how much they get paid but I know it's a tough job. My loved ones room is nice but there is only one small closet. I am portable clothing rack for his shirts.

July 11, 2024Hi Vito, Thank you for taking the time to leave a review on your experience with Sunrise of Paoli and the dedicated care givers and team members. Our residents are part of the Sunrise family and we take enormous pride in having the privilege to take care of them.
The facility is quite clean and my dad's room is cleaned once a week. Staff are very caring and friendly, but there is high staff turnover. The move in process was welcoming and smooth. They hooked up dad's TV and brought in what he needed. I asked if dad could eat his meals with other folks who are verbal and possible US Veterans. They accommodated right away. Dad was recently hospitalized and two staff members came to visit him. The food is just okay. Usually lukewarm. Dad did ask for a special food at breakfast and they accommodated. The friendly and caring staff are great!

July 11, 2024Hi Karen, Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Paoli and the dedicated care givers and team members. Our residents are part of the Sunrise family and we take enormous pride in having the privilege to take care of them.
The managers are slow to respond or don't respond to concerns regarding care. There are staff members who are not considerate of residents feelings or physical limitations. The care team overlooks and fails to deliver activities of daily living, such as showering on a scheduled basis. Night time staff members have been found sleeping despite calls made on resident call buttons. Some staff are truly caring and attentive.

Overall experience - Probably better than average for assisted living facilities, and being only 10 minutes from my home permitted daily visits. But my Mom begged every day to go back to her home, and after 7 weeks at Sunrise, I did as she asked and relocated her back to her home with a full time live in caregiver. Cleanliness - Overall very clean. Friendliness - Both staff and other residents were friendly, several exceptionally so. Quality of Care - Pretty good for an assisted living / memory care facility, but not a great fit for my Mom who requires more attention and is a "grazer" in terms of eating habits. Food - Per my preceding answer, my Mom eats several times per day and her tastes vary almost daily, causing her to often decline to eat what she was served causing her to lose weight. I did sample some meals, and I thought they were pretty good overall, maybe a C+ or B- Activities - There did appear to be several interesting activities offered, my Mom wanted to live at home and was demoralized by living in memory care, so she didn't participate in any activities. Value for Money - Especially after moving into memory care, the cost was running about double what I was later able to arrange in terms of live-in full-time care. If Mom had stayed, she would have exhausted her savings in less than a year. In summary, keeping Mom in her home is more economical and healthier for her. That said, I understand that her memory could someday reach a point where home care is no longer feasible. At that point we will reconsider assisted living / memory care.

March 20, 2024Hi, Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Paoli and the dedicated care givers and team members.
Very friendly, staff all greet my father by name, very attentive after he fell. Concierge greets family when they enter the facility. Really all has been quite good with the exception of the meals. The entrees are usually room temperature or cool. Seems like the entrees may be a frozen protein and have no taste. Soups are homemade and usually good. Sandwiches and salads are fine. They could change up the veggies from carrots and broccoli. Desserts are great! My dad just avoids the entrees. I've eaten there a few times and just get a sandwich.

August 9, 2023Hi Vito, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with a review of your experience!
The care staff are fine, but would not recommend unless changes were made with the intake staff. The intake staff was difficult to deal. There was a lot of stress and confusion. We picked this community, because it was close to a relative.

My loved one is currently a resident at Sunrise of Paoli and overall the experience has been great. The housekeeping is excellent. Communication with the family is excellent. The staff is an individual thing, some are more engaged than others. The food quality is very unappealing and the residents do not care for it. Overall, I would recommend this facility to family and friends.

July 6, 2023Hi, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with a review of your experience. Please feel free to reach out to us at information@sunriseseniorliving.com or the community directly, in case you care to share more information about the dining experience. Thank you!
The reason we gave the meals and dining 4 stars is because I never ate a meal there, but our loved one didn't seem very impressed. However she was a picky eater. My aunt was so much better while she was there more so than when she had been at home. I certainly will recommend the Sunrise of Paoli to other families looking for a place for their loved ones.

We had a very difficult time, my parents were very resistant to move. Sunrise of Paoli was the most willing to work with them and with me for that whole transition. [name removed] at A Place for Mom who worked with us was amazing. She got us through a very tough time. Overall I would recommend Sunrise to others.

October 21, 2022Hi Customer, Thank you for the wonderful things you said about Sunrise of Paoli and the dedicated care givers and team members. Our residents are part of the Sunrise family and we take enormous pride in having the privilege to take care of them.
The facility is understaffed; but overall we are happy with the care my loved one is receiving. Their biggest issues are - lack of communication with the family, and lack of documentation about residents care plan. My loved ones apartment is spacious and beautiful.

I had a very good experience there, and my wife did too. When she was there, she got a lot of attention. When I interacted with the staff, they were very good. The activities and events seem to be really worthwhile. Overall, the whole experience was great. The only thing I didn't like was it was a little more expensive than I would have liked, but that's just part of senior care.

I would tell others looking into Sunrise of Paoli to be cautious about what you are paying for up front and what is actually included. Just make sure you are constantly checking in on your family members.

This review is based on our experience within the first seven months of our loved one being there. When we first came to Sunrise community it was not great, we were very disappointed. There were people that never smiled, and always seemed grumpy. We wish the staff members would engage more with the residents to make them feel at home and feel acknowledged, but every time we came to visit we would walk passed the office to see them all on their phones. Once we complained we were told the chairs were taken out of that office so they could no longer go sit on their phones. There has been a lot of turnovers within this time, and with the new management they have hired things have been better. They have really shown us that they care. However we do wish the overall services were better, they only vacuumed once a week, there was always spilled food on the tables in the dining room, and the walls were always filthy. The activities they offered are geared towards those individuals who are mobile and not for those who need more assistance. Our loved one right now has two amazing care givers, they are absolutely wonderful we could not say enough good things about them.
