We are happy with the service and care my mother is getting there. She is getting used to it and seems to be liking it now.

The rooms were the same as the other Sunrise I visited. The rooms just seem a little on the dark side because of the layout. I received a very thorough tour of both the independent living area and the assisted living area. It is a very nice facility, and all the staff we passed or met were very friendly. I like that all caregivers have to go through a "Sunrise University" for training. Also, at the end of the tour, [name removed] worked up a sample estimate of the per day cost for my mother. This was the only place I visited that did this.

Sunrise at Fountain Square provides a warm, welcoming atmosphere the moment you walk in the door which is one of the many reasons my family chose Sunrise over the other senior living facilities we visited. My dad has lived in the Terrace Club neighborhood for one year now. The staff members on his floor are always friendly and helpful. They offer a variety of activities as well as three daily meals, weekly housekeeping and laundry services. Having a loved one with Alzheimer's is not easy, but knowing my dad is surrounded by people who treat him with kindness and respect is a big comfort. My family feels that Sunrise is the best place for my dad and would highly recommend it to others.

My loved one lived in the Terrace Club level for almost 2 years. There are many many things wrong with this level. First and foremost, the floor lead manager, [name removed], runs the floor like a prison warden. I want to be very clear. Residents conform to Sunrise, not the other way around. They even employ the same terminology-(room sweeps for counterfeit items ). Seriously, if a rule does not exist, they will make one up. Ask for help from director and they say they must take it to some executive board. The majority of the care staff are incompetent. They hire off the street, no experience, fact. Nursing staff covers many floors so expect no personalized care. Ask questions and they say they don't know. Not helpful. Regardless of what they tell you, the training and care is poor. The care staff perform all chores, activities, laundry, serving food, etc. This leave almost no time for actual care of your loved ones. The walk into room to gather laundry or empty trash, do not say hello, never ask how anyone is doing and if a question is asked they speak from the other room or part of apartment. Very unperson-able. Cleaning is okay, never under bed or the fridge. Activities are so so. Off floor and out of building are okay activities are fine. On floor sing along seem generic, movies not of residents choice. Why not let residents choose. There are a couple of good care staff and they were so very welcomed. I scheduled many meetings and tried very hard to work with them. So many times [name removed] would sit directly in front of me and act like she cares when reality if completely different. It is as if she conspires with a couple of henchwomen on the floor to make things appear a certain way. All care places need to be regulated. Sunrise is the strictest ever, they employ tactics to prevent better living in my opinion. Many places are the same, Sunrise is one of the worse. Try at your own risk.

Response from Sunrise at Fountain Square
March 4, 2019Good morning - please know that we take all concerns seriously and would like to learn more about your experience at Sunrise. Please email Information (at) SunriseSeniorLiving (dot) com with further details so we may follow up. Thank you, The Sunrise Team
We toured several senior living facilities while preparing to downsize in the summer. Sunrise was the most appealing. We toured here 3 times. On 2 of the visits we brought our adult children along for their input. Both agreed Sunrise would be a good fit. It's in good location--Lombard. It's afffordable, attractive , and not too big. The food is very good and the servers are the best. The residents were so friendly and welcoming even before we moved in. I cannot say enough good things about the entire staff--always available to answer questions or make our residence here better in some way. We're so glad to be here.

My Mom and I thought the independent and assisted living apartment options were very good and we particularly liked the private balconies and in-unit washer and dryer. Also the bathroom is a generous size and the hallways are bright and easy to navigate. However, the dining and social spaces need some refurbishing. We also noticed dust and general cleaning could use a little more attention. But, overall the facility was clean and maintained. The choice of activities are good. With close proximity to a lot of shopping, theater and dining options.

I enjoyed my visit with [Removed]. She was very knowledgeable and pleasant, able to answer my questions. Was very pleased with the 2 bed/2 both independent living apartment and the fact there was a large outside terrace that would fit a table, chairs, planters and heated garage. Downside was there was no place to walk outside because of the location but daily organized activities and weekly organized outings makes up for it. Also, nice exercise facility on site and programs.

So far my mom is settling in quite nicely at the Sunrise at Fountain Square. It is a clean and well-kept community. They are very welcoming to our family members when we come to visit. The staff is very friendly and attentive to my mom's care needs. Mom loves her room on the fourth floor where she can look down and see all of the activity going on. She loves her room, we helped her decorate it and it is very homey and comfortable for her. They offer various activities for the residents to engage in. Mom hasn't tried all of them out yet as she is still getting used to her surroundings. I've dined there with mom and the meals they provide offer a lot of variety and choices. This community takes excellent care of mom and was very cost effective. I would highly recommend this community to others.

The deciding factor in my search was this community offered a garage where other communities that I looked at didn't offer one. I am extremely happy here and doing well. I am socializing with the other residents and making friends and I join in on some of the activities. The food is good well portioned and it tastes good. Housekeeping comes in every Thursday regularly and does a good job no complaints. Overall I am very satisfied here and I would recommend it to anyone.

I have no complaints about the tour I had taken of this community for my loved one. The staff where on time to our tour and made sure to answer any questions we had for them in detail. I liked the layout of the building and thought they had a lot of nice amenities available to all of the residents. Overall everything was fine it was just not the right place for dad in the end decision.

A Place for Mom has scored Sunrise at Fountain Square 9.8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
