My brother in law was quite ill in the final stage of cancer when we moved him to SOCO Village. He was not mobile and required the highest level of care available. He was also a bit paranoid because of his illness and the medication he had to be on. So, he was not an easy resident. The staff at SOCO always responded to our calls and texts regarding his care, even in the middle of the night,, which was a comfort. We felt they really cared and tried their best for him. They have many activities for the residents which unfortunately my b-in-law wasn't able to participate. The food was pretty good. Really the only complaint I'd have was that the trash wasn't emptied often enough. Our minister visited him early on and commented on the smell in the room, which was embarrassing. And at the end, when all the family was visiting daily, the room was full of fruit flies. I would recommend SOCO Village to friends, but keep an eye on the trash situation.... Read more

Response from SoCo Village
June 27, 2024Hello, Donna — we value your appreciation of our caring team at SoCo Village! Thank you for allowing us to care for your brother-in-law during his final stages; it was an honor. To share more about your experience, we invite you to reach out to Melissa Nix, Executive Director, at ed@socovillage.com. We look forward to speaking with you.
My loved one was previously a resident at SoCo Village and the overall experience was okay. It is a newer facility, however, it is in a busy intersection part of the city and there were lots of homeless around so it didn't feel completely safe when my loved one ventured off from SoCo. There weren't many food/grocery/restaurant options nearby that felt completely safe. My biggest complaint was staff turnover, in all areas, which lead to shortages of all kinds.

June 6, 2024Thank you for sharing your feedback about your loved one's experience at SoCo Village. We understand the importance of feeling secure and supported in a residential community, and we're committed to providing the utmost care and attention for our residents. Thank you again for your feedback.
We moved my mon out after 4 months because we decided it was better to keep her home with us. The facility was nice. The director back then was slow to respond, but I don't know if she's still there because it has been over 15 months since we moved my mom back home. [name removed] was a prominent staff member that was phenomenal! The food & housekeeping were wonderful, however it was expensive.

The staff is very thoughtful and caring. The main thing that stuck out about SoCo Village over others was the bright and cheery atmosphere. We have been very happy with their service and would recommend the facility to others looking.

Beautiful place. New everything. Tastefully decorated. They put on a good show for the tour. Weekly housekeeping ( except holidays, except they don't put clothes away, except they try to not remake the bed, except that they rush in and out and it's a half [removed] job). Activity calendar with tons of options except they don't mention that many are cancelled because activity director is chronically missing....or that a staff member just walks in, turns on a YouTube video and leaves. Lovely menu....except that they're always running late. Except that food is sometimes served cold. Except that food is often overcooked and difficult to chew. Oh and the last head chef just walked out with no notice. Yes they administer meds but med techs are always quitting and the agency people don't know the residents. Meds are frequently late or waaaay too early. Staff doesn't always reorder meds in a timely manner and sometimes residents go without life savings meds for days.

We toured with SoCo Village and none of the employees even acknowledged my dad or me. It was also very dirty. We did not see any residents in the common areas. Those were the main reasons we did not choose this facility.

April 25, 2023Hello, thank you for providing your feedback. We would like to speak with you about the situation you mentioned at your earliest convenience. Please contact Executive Director, Melissa, at ed@socovillage.com. Thank you, and we look forward to hearing from you.
More staff needed. Food still is better than anywhere else we saw. My mothers health has improved a ton since she has been there, but she is now self-managing meds because they could not seem to stay consistent in keeping them stocked and delivered at the proper times. But we experienced the same thing in Houston at what was supposed to be the #1 rated assisted living place in the Houston area. Centrally located if you live in Austin and want them nearby. Still very happy she is there and that we picked this one.

This has been a good convenient location for family to visit our loved one. The community is very accessible and the family is able to visit our loved one often. The staff are very friendly. They have themes available for holidays for the residents to participate in. There are three meals provided a day to the residents and they have choices to choose from.

November 8, 2022Phillip, thank you for your kind review about our community! We appreciate your trust in us to care for your loved one.
I toured SoCo Village and we really liked it. The community was really nice, it was our 1st choice before we saw [community name removed]. My dad was [age removed], so that kind of upscale environment wasn't up his alley. He's an old fashioned person and likely wouldn't have appreciated or utilized all the amenities they had to offer. We chose another community because it was much more homey and comfortable.

They are very caring and take care of the patients pretty well at this community. They have activities like arts and crafts and bingo, and games to keep the residents busy. They also have get togethers and dances.

February 9, 2023Thank you for your positive review, Paul!
In the limited interaction I've had with the staff, they've been nice. But they just don't have enough people. There's one caregiver and two med techs to care for all the residents, about 22 in total plus some of their spouses. The one caregiver has been good, but honestly very few care services have been available to my loved one due to staff shortages. They went on an on about how great the food is, but it's jut not very healthy. You can tell their food budget is low. We've had problems with laundry getting done, and they are especially low staffed on the weekends. It's also located in a bad neighborhood. The rooms are very small, but that's typical at most places. They were willing to work with us on the cost, which was one good thing. They've also been able to take accountability when any issues have arisen. It's not a horrible, terrible place where people are mistreated. They just don't have enough staff. But they've been very willing to try to listen, even if they couldn't do much about our concerns.

I wouldn't recommend the community. The staff seem inexperienced in a new community. The staff to resident ratio is good. However, for 10 residents there would be 1 staff member. There were times that I would see the chef watching over the residents and not a nurse or CNA. The communication with the staff was not happening with the family about concerns over my loved one.

SoCo Village is a beautiful brand new facility, it has such a bright and happy atmosphere. The staff members have been great and so have the care services. When we first moved our loved one in, we got to see her meal and it look delicious. It was a well executive and elevated sandwich, salad and soup. Our loved one has put on some healthy weight, and they have ice cream for her every night. Given the current circumstances the activities are still limited but our loved one gets extremely excited to do the puzzles and things of that nature. She seems much more engaged then before moving in, her eyes are lit up and she is overall healthier. They were very helpful with the whole transition process. However, the finance side of things have been a little disorganized and some of the staff members don't see as well versed on how to run a facility, but that could be due to the pandemic and being a new facility.
