Positives: The professional staff is very friendly and capable: the physical therapists, the exercise teachers, the EMTs, the buildings and grounds, and ---mostly---the front desk people. The medical staff has not been as friendly: we did not have a good experience with the post-op rehab division, [name removed] ., the medical staff at Sedgebrook has seen a lot of turnover and isn't as accessible as we'd like. My mom has never been a joiner so she hasn't partaken in any of the many programs that are offered--they looked great to us, but she won't participate. The food hasn't been good, according to my mom, 4-5 days a week. It's institutional food. We ate Thanksgiving dinner there last year and I'd have to agree--it wasn't very good at all. The grounds are beautiful--it's like an arboretum, and the building itself is well-maintained although I think the hallway carpeting is much in need of an update. Much praise to Sedgebrook at Home-- they have provided her with wonderful drivers once-a-week, a consistent person, very kind. The cleaning staff is overall good-- a few are outstanding, some are just adequate.... Read more

At 90, Sedgebrook in Lincolnshire is my cherished sanctuary. Its beautiful facility and serene grounds bring me daily joy. The staff, a second family, showers me with warmth and care. And the dining experience? Oh, it's a culinary delight, a daily celebration. Sedgebrook is not just a place to live; it's my home.

Response from Sedgebrook
October 17, 2023Hello, we appreciate you taking the time to leave us this feedback. Your recommendation means so much to us and we're so happy to have earned it. Thank you again for taking the time to let the world know about your positive experience. Have a great day!
Completing my one year anniversary at Sedgebrook I’ve experienced enough time to have met so many friends through dining and classes. The one thing that it’s taught me is you’re never alone. The staff has been so supportive to offer any assistance to all my needs or questions. I enjoy the day to day activities and never find a day that drags on. My summer months I spend a lot of time enjoying the beautiful grounds and surrounding area with the bike trail along the Des Plaines river path at our back door. I feel comfortable knowing we have a convenient medical center with a full time doctor on staff if ever I would need some medical attention. I would say in conclusion that this wa one of the smartest decisions one could make as a senior finding that with age comes wisdom!

Response from Sedgebrook
October 8, 2022Thank you for taking the time to share! If there is anything we can do to ensure a five-star experience moving forward, please let us know.
Sedgebrook is worth looking into from our experience. The community is expensive and they are upfront about what the expenses cover. The amenities are fantastic. The staff are great and the community is beautiful. My loved one has made friends quickly and this has made all the difference for us and them. This has been a positive experience and change for my loved one.

They have a musical program, art, games, and a garden center are just some of the activities available for the residents to choose from. My loved one has been in this community for a while and they haven't cooked one night since their first night. Even with a kitchen in their room. You have to buy your apartment, and then there is a monthly fee for all the amenities.

Great tour, convenient location. Friendly residents & staff, indoor parking, variety of floor plans, exercise room, on-site beauty/barber, on-site medical personnel, pool, TONS of activities for all. Will probably choose this place to live, not ready to downsize just yet.

The place is nice and the staff and people who live there are very nice. However upon death or relocation you are obligated to pay three months fees, (around 2000/ month). You basically are giving the 90% of the cost to Sedgebrook until they sell your unit. The issue here is they are in no hurry to sell and do not communicate with you regarding the progress of the sale. They only offer excuses when your call to why it has not moved. Very nice to be able to hold onto others money. We have had a place available for seven months and their no movement. The communication is horrible. I advise you to ask many questions about this before you sign on the dotted line.

[Removed] - called on 4/29 and scheduled us for 1:30 on Friday, 5/5. [Removed]n spent at least 90 minutes with us. Sedgebrook is definitely what we are looking for in an active senior community. It appears to be independent living at its best, and in our current neighborhood. My primary concern has been to live somewhere that has medical personnel on site who can respond to an emergency situation quickly (before the Fire Dept. EMT's arrive). [Removed] told us that their emergency response team is made up of EMTs/Paramedics who assess the situation and will decide if calling for an ambulance is warranted. The 2-bedroom apartment that she showed us was definitely larger than the others we have seen, and they are very flexible about making changes to suit the individuals' needs (for a price). Our primary concern now is whether we can afford to live there, as the "buy in" amount is much higher than anticipated. [Removed] also invited us to come for an overnight visit to get a "real feel" for the community.

I liked the Sedgebrook when I toured it. The facility was clean and well maintained. The tour guide was knowledgeable and friendly. It was a good tour and they answered all of my questions as well as give me good information.

This is a buy in community and I would say you would need to be wealthy to afford this. There Is a Rehab place located behind the community. There is a doctor on the premise a podiatrist and hearing person coming in monthly. THe community is clean and beautiful. Food is not that good. They have a bistro style cafeteria that is better than the dining room. They offer indoor parking and they have a pool.

Sedgebrook is an active indépendant community. Everyone is VERY friendly. My mother moved into Sedgebrook last month and has acclimated relatively quickly. Note to future residents.....she moved into a one bedroom unit and wished she had done a two bedroom. It is too late to do that now as it would require buying/selling. She has run into old friends (from grade/high school) and met many new people.

A Place for Mom has scored Sedgebrook 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
