Brookdale Vernon Hills

Brookdale was an awesome facility for my Mom. However, she passed away on [date removed] at 98 years old. I will always recommend Brookdale as a great place. Many fun events for residents and families - Mother's Day Brunch, Movies, and a super Carnival for Grandparent's Day.

Broken Brookdale sign out front isn't a good look on cleanliness. That and spilled food in the atrium that I hope it cleaned by now.

We have been happy with Brookdale Vernon Hills. The staff is friendly, courteous and very helpful. The facility is great with the rainforest being a very unique fixture of the property. Activities seem to be great with a nice variety to choose from.

My mom lived here and she has since moved. The tropical forest is nice, but that is all that is nice. The apartments are small and overpriced. The food is cold. They serve a box dinner on Sunday which is a sandwich and it isn't wrapped in cellophane, so the bread is dry and most residents throw it away. They charge you for every tea bag, yogurt, muffin or whatever that you want to take to your apartment. Many people have had jewelry and other things stolen and when they report it, Brookdale tells them that they must have misplaced it. It has happened to too many people though. I have asked them many times to provide more activities and made suggestions such as We Bowling, more bingo and cornhole and they just ignored myself and my mom. My mom made an appointment for a meeting with them to talk about a different apartment and they just ignored her and didn't show up for the appointment and didn't make another one. This made her so angry that she decided to move.

Despite paying for the service their room cleaning is 1 out of 5, and I constantly have to hound them to do it properly--and it's a studio! Probably not unique to Brookdale, but they have some fees that are ridiculous, like [amount removed]+/month just to dispense his prescriptions.

[name removed] experience has shown the result to be excellent across the board. Everyone has been attentive, when called upon the needed service is forthcoming, sometimes immediately, other times - perhaps, the next day. Priorities are usually well judged and aligned with the appropriate responsiveness.

My mom was in Brookdale for over six years, first in [removed], and then when she needed memory care, she moved to Vernon Hills. It was an overwhelmingly positive experience - first, when she was fully "together," she enjoyed all of the activities, the food, the accommodations, etc. Everyone was wonderful. Then, as she progressed to memory care, and her experience became different, I found a whole new group of incredibly caring, capable staff. I would highly recommend Brookdale facilities to anyone; these two in particular.

I came to Brookdale Vernon Hills in 2022 because I was totally lonely. I am still thrilled with the way of life here. There are so many activities during the day and evening that I have no time to get bored. I have found friends here that I enjoy spending time with. I can also just stay in my apartment when I need down time. The food is very good. Eating communally is so much fun. The management team seems very committed to making our lives the best it can be. The staff are friendly and helpful…every one of them. The front desk takes concierge duties to another level. And no one falls through the cracks. Staff meet regularly to identify people who need more help. My kids are thrilled that I’m here. And I haven’t been lonely or bored since ai moved in.

I live at Brookdale VH with my husband. We love being a part of the community. I walk down the hallway, and everyone says hello. I have breakfast with a group of friends every morning and we laugh over coffee. It's home.

We moved here in March 2023, after having done a fair bit of research on other senior living facilities. We found a community that genuinely seems to care about the well-being of its residents. Programs are available and plentiful, and the resident may participate to whatever extent he/she wishes. (There are many extra activities and wide-ranging outings optional.) Meals are nutritious and varied. Apartments are appropriately spacious, comfortable and secure. Nursing and other assistance is available to whatever degree required. Over all, we feel we've made the correct choice, and would do so again. Highly recommend Brookdale Vernon Hills.

Brookdale Vernon Hills has been an excellent community for my mother. What has made it such an excellent experience so far is the cleanliness, the excellent food and menu choices and the fun activities they have planned. Based on the experience we have had so far, we would recommend this community to other families.

The staff were attentive in working to find the right accommodations we were seeking for my Mother-in-law. The familiarization meeting was not rushed, but accounted for time to give and get explanations to enable collaboration. That enabled us to find, together, a mutually beneficial set of community attributes to persuade ourselves that this was a location fitting our criteria. The marketing, sales and facility management worked well together to satisfy some unique requirements, and consequently earned our trust, and gave my Mother-in-law the confidence to make a commitment to move in to Brookdale Vernon Hills. After 5 weeks there, now, most all of the expectations are satisfying, the facilities and community are welcoming. As a new resident, my Mother-in-law is still making friends, enjoying many of the activities, while also finding time to relax, enjoying the community environs. As an aside, less than timely maintenance initiatives, viz., not being able to manually control (turn off) the bathroom baseboard heater has not been fixed, rather it was fully shut off. To not be able to turn the heater off posed a concern, as a possible fire hazard. Now that it is off is OK, until the autumn, when it will be needed. But, then the heat rheostat/thermostat still won't calibrate to the appropriate setting. It'll need to be addressed, in due course. Yet, if it was operating properly in the first place, then being repaired properly wouldn't be a projected concern.

I have been invited for activities and luncheons. Seems a very happy place with good appearance and care.

Majority of the staff is very loving and caring. When the group leader is off often there is no replacement. The food could be better. Overall I am satisfied with the care and I like that there are separate floors in the memory care between mild/moderate and advanced dementia. Also, it's newly renovated and the environment is very nice.

My mom lives here and it is terrible! They are having box food for Christmas with a choice of tuna salad or egg salad, can you believe that! They never have special Holiday meals and the meals are always cold. They hardly have any fun activities to do. They always make necklaces and bracelets to sell so that Brookdale can get money. For Christmas, they haven't done anything. You would think that they would make gingerbread houses at least. They have Happy Hour and they will pass out a piece of candy or a sliver of cake. They always play trivia games and never anything else. My mom hates Trivia so it isn't fun for her. They are so cheap! They never play fun music or have bands. They will hire a violinist or solo musician and that is it. Please don't put your loved one here!!!
