When it comes to the friendliness of the staff I gave them a 5 (my opinion - my Mom's opinion differs, but she has some paranoia as part of her dementia). For the meals and dining (my Mom's opinion, not enough variety, too much pepper, not enough comfort food, like mac & cheese). Based on the experience we have had with Heartis San Antonio we have recommended this community to families and we would continue to

I have not been impressed with Heartis. The day after my husband arrived the top 2 administrators resigned and a few days later the financial administrator also left. The replacement executive director resigned after 2 weeks. If my husband was not getting physical, occupational and speech therapy along with an MD I would remove him from the facility. It is very difficult to get answers to questions to about his care. My husband's clothes are not being changed. I found he was wearing the same clothes on a Tuesday that he was wearing the previous Saturday. There were no dirty clothes in his laundry hamper or in his laundry basket. He may not be showered either.

When my father moved in to Heartis, the admin/executive staff was in upheaval. The rates and policies seem to vary, based on who you talked with. Still, they stood by all of the written info we received. Their care staff members are top-notch and wonderfully friendly. Also, the food is great. Activities Director and Chef are excellent! Hope they get an Executive Director and Business Manager who continues the real community feel at Heartis.

I definitely recommend the facility. Staff is great and make a point to get to know the residents. Housekeeping is also great. There is never a bad smell or odor in the building anywhere. Which is a huge thing, in my opinion. Food is excellent. Several family members have had meals with my parents. All have said the same. Communication has been good. There was a rough patch at the beginning. But I suspect it was on our part as much as anything. Being new and all. I feel very comfortable with my parents being here. It gives me a great sense of relief. And they have been really on top of watching my dad with his dementia issues.

We have been very disappointed recently with the service at Heartis. On multiple occasions Mom had to wait for over an hour for breakfast because “no one showed up” to cook. The wait staff is slow and often all other staff have to “pitch in” to cover. The staff that is supposed to respond to the button pagers are taking forever to respond. Such a lovely place with so much potential, but significant staffing issues.

The facility is just gorgeous. I have always been met with smiles and friendliness of the staff. It would be nice, if the medical team informed me when my loved one is running low on medication. They can improve on communication, and they can offer better food options. Also, they keep the residents active with the activites.

I bet the assisted living at this community is very nice. Memory Care unit is a tough place to be, as the residents are either dying or truly out of it. I think the staff did well considering what they were dealing with in the memory care unit. The hospice team that the community works with was very good. The administrator hunted high and low for this great hospice group and has made sure they haven't left the community.

Our family had an in person tour and this was our second choice it was a great tour and seemed to have great activities.
Many caregivers and other staff were diligent, kind, caring. But the place gave them no tools to succeed. They do a great sales job, though, boasting about a fancy multi-point care program that enriches lives of dementia patients. No such thing. In fact, no one there understands dementia at all. Just your standard MC place with high turnover and absenteeism. Promised multiple food options for each meal. Nope. Always a surprise, never a choice. Care plans were not discussed or executed. Attrition and absenteeism off the charts, with no "system" to share resident info with new shifts or staff. Appeared to be no training for new staff. Many didn't know safe transfer methods. Persistent short-staffing ... Sometimes only one person all night. Often, no check-ins for 4-7 hours; loved one would be crawling on the floor naked and cold. Careless housekeeping. Too many promises, too high a price for a same-old-care experience. Save your money and don't fall for the sales pitch.

We had a good experience with the facility itself and the administrator, but there was a lot of turnover in the caregivers. There is not enough caregivers in that large of a facility to properly take of those who do need help. The same goes for their memory care facility. If you have a family member who needs some care, then they may not always get it. I would recommend the facility for more independent people.

I really liked this facility. The facility that we went with was just closer to the house. Great facility and very good tour.
The director was very friendly when we initially toured Heartis, and all of the staff members have been wonderful. The location is great, the amenities are great and new. The price is great for the quality of the community and the quality of the amenities. The staff has made the transition for our loved one very smooth, they have gone above and beyond for our family and have been extremely helpful. We are happy with them.

Heartis San Antonio has been been absolutely amazing. I would give them a 20 on a scale of 1 to 5. I would tell others looking into the facility to not be afraid to move their loved ones here. I wish we would have moved her sooner. She is very happy.

Before coming here my wife was in assisted living and I was in independent living so I was only allowed to visit her. Now coming here we are both able to live with each other again and take care of each other. We would recommend the Heartis San Antonio community to others.

Toured on [date removed]. Very large and bustling facility. Lots of things to do but for my dad it would be too overwhelming. Very nice place for those who want lots of entertainment. Rooms are large with lots of storage and modern features. Lots of caregivers available.

very nice facility - Boutique hotel feel. Seemed to have a small community. Would have liked to have gotten more information about activities or groups planned at the community . Very impressed with the director of the facility and the amenities offered . would be a good transition from someone living in an upscale senior living community to Assisted Living or Memory Care.
