There is NO communication between staff and patient families. We send emails requesting information concerning the well-being of our father that go COMPLETELY unanswered. Staff turnover is quite high at all levels.

It is close to my home. I'm hoping they will improve staffing and cleanliness soon. I like to visit often. However, I would not recommend Dougherty Ferry to other families right now. They have a lot of work to do. Supposedly they are having trouble with staffing.

It's a nice facility but there are staffing issues. My mother has been a resident for 3 months and has had her apartment cleaned 4 times by the staff. (It is supposed to be cleaned weekly.) My sister and I have had to fill in when we visit. We do like that she has her own washer/dryer in her room, the food is good and there are a variety of activities for her to participate in. Overall we are pleased with Dougherty Ferry Assisted Living.

My mom had to be moved to Memory Care. No-one watched her take her medications. We found medicine cups filled with meds. My mom was also stashing meds in random hiding places. There was poor communication from staff to me, as I lived out of town and was only able to visit her on the weekends. I saw her on Sunday when we took her out of the facility for dinner. I received a call Friday saying that my mom refused food all week, refused a shower all week, was not taking her medications all week, that her whole room smelled like urine and BO, that she was a danger to herself and had to be sent to the hospital. I called multiple times throughout the week to check on my mom, because mom wasn't feeling up to talking. Everyone said she was fine until Friday when they said she wasn't. Very high staff turnover. Unfortunately, my mom passed away shortly after her stay there. The biggest thing I learned is that if you place a loved one in Assisted living or memory care, you have to visit them EVERYDAY.

Do not consider Dougherty Ferry for your loved one. They are understaffed, disorganized, do not live up to the expectations of the residential contract. Don't expect anyone to return a call or an email - it doesn't happen. I left hand-written messages at the front desk and no one responded. They do not administer medication responsibly. Memory care residents do not receive cues for meals, hygiene, or medication. On several occasions we overheard residents at the front desk complaining they have not received needed medications. There is no respect for our elderly.

Poor communication with families in regards to patient care. Disorganized leadership and staff. Do not keep accurate records of patient care to provide to drs when requested. Lots of staff turnover, in all aspects of the facility.

The care is of low quality - just not provided or substandard. Communication is not there - no follow-up of requests for communication about care and billing issues. Emails are not returned. Billing is wrong and not corrected. Promises continue to be unkept. No shower for 2 months. High turnover of all levels of staff. Staff says 'It's not my job" or "No one told me". Food is good and the activities department is good.

I couldn’t be more grateful for how well my dad has been taken care of. He’s had some considerable cognitive decline recently, but is still wanting to walk on a daily basis. The staff have helped to provide the least restrictive set up that still has appropriate support. The staff have been patient with him even with some of his odd behavior. The facility is beautiful and clean. The staff is friendly and helpful. My dad loves the food. So far Dougherty Ferry has been a home run.

Response from Dougherty Ferry Assisted Living and Memory Care
April 10, 2024Hi Customer, we appreciate your kind words and the time you took out of your day to review us. We hope you have an amazing day!
The sales person [name removed] is great they accessed [name removed] before he went in and said he was a level 3. We told them that he was incontient and needed to be helped and reminded several times to go to the bathroom That he needed assistance in bathing dressing and personal hygiene when he was getting accessed However when we got him there none of those things were done. [name removed] often was drenched in urine and worse. They left his soiled clothes sit days in his room and the smell was awful He always is unshaved and I don't know how often he is bathed His bed was very often left soaked in urine and the toilet left soiled I spend at least a half hour cleaning up his room and getting the smell out. They leave his soiled pull-ups there for days I finally bought a enclosed trash can and ziplocks for this and it's helping When I talked to the staff about this [name removed] the head coordinator acted like we were a pest and moved him from a level 3 to a 5. Greatly increasing the price He still is not shaved and groomed even though we pay for it Some of the helpers are very nice and do there best however some are very lazy and do nothing Found out just yesterday there was a problem from Friday regarding his Seroquel (mood stabilizer)and instead of taking care of it with the V A. They let him go without his nite time meds from Friday through Monday They do not communicate with us at all It's a beautiful place but it is totally absurd that they don't take care of their memory patients and communicate with their families

The main issue was that skilled nursing was not available on a regular basis. When my dad had fallen and gone to the hospital. I learned from the hospital, that the facility thought my dad needed rehab before returning to the facility. I did not like that the facility did not communicate this with me themselves and that rehab was not available there at the facility. They had told me that rehab was available when I registered him for care.

This facility is understaffed to provide level 4 care. They made promises to provide level 4 care for our mom in memory care but it wasn’t provided. There were many instances where only one staff person was caring for 8-10 memory care patients. My best advice to anyone moving their loved one into this facility is to place a Wi-Fi camera in their room so you can monitor the care that your loved one may or maybe not getting.

The only way I can describe the place is, this is one of the only places I toured I would personally live in myself if I could. It is that nice.

Response from Dougherty Ferry Assisted Living and Memory Care
February 22, 2023Hello customer, We appreciate your positive feedback about your experience at Dougherty Ferry Assisted Living & Memory Care. We take pride in serving our residents and their families, and if you have any further questions, please let us know.
My mother in law was an original resident in Assisted living in this facility. As her dimentiadeclined she moved to memory care unit. Staff turnover is significant (management and employees) and service has declined. I discovered my mother, a dementia patient was being asked if she wanted something to eat, if she said no they would not bring her food. They were unable to meet her needs. She had a fall and went to hospital malnourished and dehydrated. Avoid this facility and find another provider for your lived one.

Not the same facility my mother moved into in 2016 when it first opened. Management comes and goes rapidly now and level of care suggers. My mother was in assisted living and as her dementia worsened oved to the memory care unit where she maxed out on care plan due to needs. While there she experienced significant weight loss. I uncovered my mother who only ate two meals a day anyway was actually not even receiving two. Some staff would ask a memory care patient if she wanted something to eat and she would answer no so they would not bring her a meal. This is alarming to occur in a care facility. This is unacceptable. She had a falland went to the hospital dehydrated and malnourished as the doctor there described it. Her personal doctor assessed my mother to require needs beyond what this facili can provide. Current management fails to recognize they fall short on care. Advise you to look elsewhere for care for your loved one.

A Place for Mom has scored Dougherty Ferry Assisted Living and Memory Care 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
