The transition was not easy for my mother. She was angry and at times depressed about being there. The entire time the staff was amazing. They were so supportive of her going above and beyond in my opinion to help her get comfortable being there. They would check on her throughout the day if she didn’t want to leave her room. They encouraged her to join the others for meals. And would even go sit with her outside when they saw her there alone Other residents were even involved as well making sure she was informed about activities. They were social and would go up to her and introduce them selves. It has been a little over a month and she likes being there now. She has even started taking a Spanish class. She is rarely in her room now as she is out talking with others and enjoying the social aspects of the facility Everyone of the staff has been so friendly ever time I visit. They are an amazing group of people... Read more

We really like the smaller size of the community, everybody is pretty much on a first name basis. The staff members are so friendly and the community is kept very clean. There are so many different activities for the residents to do, our loved one says there is almost to much to do. They have board games, dominoes, bus trips twice a week - they have gone to grocery stores, dollar tree, and even went to look at Christmas lights. Our loved one also does an exercise class every morning. We would recommend Brookdale Westover Hills to other families based on our experience

I thought Brookdale Westover Hills was a nice place. It just wasn't what we were looking for. The room layout was our least favorite of the places we toured. There was no kitchen, and I don’t think they advertised that very well. There was just a little microwave and a dorm fridge in the room. It was certainly not a bad place - it just depends on what you're looking for.
I thought Brookdale Westover Hills was a gorgeous place. But they couldn’t take care of my loved one's transfer needs.
We've experienced a very professional and very courteous staff that appears to be interested in the wellbeing of my mom. They seem to go out of their way to take good care of her. I live out of state, and I feel comfortable that they're taking good care of her even though I can't be there.

We experiencing a lot of problems right now. Most of it is due to the temporary employees that they have hired because of all of the turnover. Her room is not being cleaned, the food is cold, medications are mismanaged, and there are very little activities provided. I am hoping things improve as new staff comes on, but right now things are not going well.

Response from Brookdale Westover Hills
October 25, 2021We appreciate you taking the time to share your concerns and hope you will call our Brookdale Resident and Family Connection team to discuss your concerns in greater detail.
I would recommend you not put your loved one here. There has been a lot of staff turnover. It doesn't seem there is a lot training given to the caregivers. In the dining room the residents may wait up to one hour before getting their meals. There is no water set out on the table, when the residents get down to the dining room. Sometimes the food is good and other times it is seriously overcooked.

They're great. I've really liked them. The staff have been very helpful and have communicated not just with the resident but with the family as well, so we know what's going on. We appreciate that, in case our loved one isn't able to relay information to us. She's made some friends there and has been very well cared for.

When we moved our loved one from assisted living to memory care they assured us she was going to get that one on one attention, and get more engaged. and that was not the care. They really do lack activities. However the rooms at the community would be a 4.5 out of 5.

Some activities this community has is bingo, movie nights, wine days and book clubs. They put out a calendar showing all the activities. During Christmas they have Christmas Carolers. Our loved one loves her room, she has a one bedroom. The rooms are very nice, and the community layout is easily accessible.

We are blessed that there is a place like Brookdale for my mom.. I really think they try hard but they do have their challenges. They really try to stay in communication with families and they try to do special and creative things for the families and residents. After looking at a lot of place, I chose this community because I liked the appearance of the community and how friendly everyone was there. The residents who live they are fairly active which has been good for my mom. I would recommend this community to other families.

Mom really liked this facility and found it quite comfortable. She isn't quite ready for assisted living but felt this was a good option when she was less independent.

Very nice. Friendly environment. The grounds are not fenced and I was worried that my Mom could get lost if she went out the front door. Otherwise, the living space and the amenities are exactly what I am looking for.

My dad has been at Brookdale Westover since mid [date removed]. It’s a lovely facility. Most of the staff is great. The med techs, resident assistants and kitchen staff really know the residents and do a good job making sure they are comfortable and well fed. However, the management team has been lax on responsibilities, follow up, confusion with billing, and communication. I believe it is a good place for your loved one but as with anyplace, you need to be up there to check on things often.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Westover Hills 9.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
