Under certain circumstances, communities may provide Alzheimer’s care, “aging in place”, or respite. The state of Oregon maintains specific rules associated with this type of community. Oregon Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing and Regulatory Oversight supervises this community type. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include transportation services, health services, 24-hour emergency care service, and maximize physical functioning. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day and all food must be in accordance with the Department of Agriculture food pyramid. Public assistance is available through Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program. Staff members obtain training in a number of fields. These include: residents’ rights, fire safety, abuse and reporting requirements, and emergency procedures. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as mental health evaluation, ADLs test, physical health exam, and risk indicator assessment. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents.
