The Bradford House in Gilmer, TX

They are an assisted living community with efficiency style apartments. It's a lot smaller; they have 33 people. They were good, but the transportation was a problem. It seems like everywhere they say that they can accommodate transportation for dialysis, but then when it comes down to it, they can't.

The Hamptons of Tyler Senior Living
4.8

My Mom has been memory care for a short time. So I would say that she seems happy and content. The staff is very helpful. She had a bad day and the head Aide came over and talked so sweetly to her! I was amazed how my mom's anxiety just left so quickly! They are a trained staff here. Also, the food is very good and good for her, as she is a diabetic. When my mom first arrived at the Hamptons, her sugar was n the 500's. Since she has been here her sugar is fair to normal. Other drs could not help her with her sugar. She has a nurse 3 times a day and she sees a Dr once a week here. I am very thankful for this place and all those who are helping my mom have a happy and good life.. God bless them!

Nursing Homes

A nursing home is a complex that houses at least two seniors who are not related by blood or by marriage to the administrator. A nursing home facility offers its occupants around-the-clock care by on-site nurses. These caregivers provide health related services for people who are unable to care for themselves due to the effects of aging.

Nursing homes can be a convenient and easy living option for individuals 65 years and above, however nursing homes will commonly allow access to persons 55 and older (a rarity in the realm of senior care). Some services come at an extra cost which can include special care services not included in the facility’s Medicaid payment, cosmetic and grooming items, and personal reading materials. A significant portion of nursing home residents are seniors who require assistance with daily tasks such as getting dressed, experience difficulty with vision and hearing, have incontinence issues, or have mental or physical disabilities. Nursing homes are required to provide pharmaceutical services, medically-related social services, specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability), and routine personal hygiene items to residents. Many occupants of nursing homes may have behavioral difficulties. These can consist of resisting assistance, a tendency to wander, or verbal outbursts. Types of care services and amenitiesprovided at nursing homes might include wound care for pressure sores or a surgical wound, senior centers, rehabilitation needed due to injury, disability, or illness, and care coordination and case management.
