Vintage Park at Gardner

We really like the nursing staff and the manager, our only complaint we have about the place is over the weekends there are no regular staff members. The rooms are nice, and our loved ones thing the food is good.

Westchester Village of Lenexa
4.6

Mom's 1st fall led to 9 weeks of pain and substandard care in rehab facilities and with her passing. During this 9 weeks it was decided that Mom and Dad would not be able to remain in their home of 50+ years and after extensive research Westchester Village was selected for their Assisted Living accommodations. We moved Dad in and Mom moved to their Skilled Nursing to complete her rehab but the falls and her illness won that battle. With Dad in Assisted Living, regulations prevented Mom from joining him for hospice. Rather than have her somewhere that he couldn't visit, Westchester Village made their on-premise apartment available for hospice which allowed Dad to spend as much time as possible with Mom at the end as well as providing extra space for my rather large family as we were also trying to provide comfort and support to Mom, Dad, and each other. Courtney O'Connor, Judy Baxter, and the staff at Westchester Village have been kind, gracious, and generous thru this difficult time

Homestead of Olathe
5.0

One thing that really stuck out to us about Homestead of Olathe is after the first year of self pay they take Medicaid. It is a smaller place so residents are able to form closer relationships. I really liked the way they are set up, they have one building for independent living and assisted living and if they need extended Alzheimer's care, they have a separate building adjacent to the other building and it is set up exactly like the main facility so the residents are not confused or lost. I am very close with the administrative staff, they are super helpful and I feel like we are a team. I like that it is not a locked facility, it has a code entry which works great for the families. My mom is so happy here and says she has no complaints. If I had to go somewhere where I needed care, I would go here. I cannot say enough good about them, they are truly a Godsend.

Nursing Homes

A nursing home provides lodging to two or more seniors who have no familial ties to the administrator. This type of establishment provides its inhabitants with around-the-clock care by registered nurses. These nurses offer specialized care for people who cannot take care of their own needs.

This type of community is a familiar and comfy care option for individuals 65 years or older, however nursing homes will commonly allow access to persons 55 and older infrequently heard of in senior care regarding other care types. Nursing homes are required to provide a professionallly directed program of activities, routine personal hygiene items, room and bed maintenance services, and specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability) to residents. The most frequent mental issue effecting residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can hinder their and familiarity, decision making capabilities, and memory function. A significant amount of residents tend to be bachelors or widows with less social support, and about fifty percent of nursing home residents are over 85 years old. A significant number of nursing home residents are individuals who have mental or physical disabilities, have incontinence issues, require assistance with daily tasks such as walking, or experience difficulty with hearing and sight. There are some services that may come at a cost to residents which can include personal clothing, a private room, unless medically needed, and special care services not included in the community’s Medicaid payment.
