I am moving out of The Windsor in a couple of weeks. Surprisingly, my health has improved enough that I can now live on my own. I’ve made so many friends here. Response from The Windsor of Lawrence
September 30, 2024Congratulations on your improved health and upcoming move! It's wonderful to hear that you've made meaningful connections at The Windsor. Your positive attitude and advocacy are inspiring. We're grateful for your kind words about our caring and friendly staff. While we'll miss having you here, we're excited for you to embark on this new chapter of independent living. Best wishes to you!
They used to have a very good chef before I moved here. Now the food is barely acceptable. There is never a balanced meal. If they do serve vegetables, they are so soft that there is no nutritional value to them. Supper is a sandwich every single night, either served with tater tots or cottage cheese. It’s more like a snack than a meal. The cooks don’t wear hair nets unless someone is here from corporate for a meeting. That’s also the day they put menus on the table… even though they do not serve what is on the menu. Staff talks (gossips) about residents within hearing of others. I would never recommend The Windsor. It’s like a prison, without square meals.

September 6, 2024We appreciate your feedback and apologize for your recent experience. We take food quality and service seriously and are actively addressing your concerns with our culinary team. Your comments are valuable as we strive to improve our dining offerings and overall resident satisfaction. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
My sister relocated from Phoenix two months ago. I felt responsible in selecting a new “home” for her in Lawrence. The Windsor of Lawrence was a perfect choice. It’s in a lovely residential area., one story and only 60 rooms. Her window in her apartment looks over a beautiful enclosed area with a pavilion, Many residents spend time outside enjoying the view and visiting with friends. My sister lives it because she watches the turtles and residents’ small dogs. After living in the desert, she is delighted with all the greenery. The staff is great and it is hard to call her because she is always “out”- exercising, or being engaged in some type of activity. She is happy- and I feel so relieved. I highly recommend Windsor Place. Oh- and she enjoys all of her meals.. it is wonderful knowing my sister is well taken care of, and is happy.

July 14, 2024Hi Pat, thank you for sharing your experience with us! We're so glad your sister is enjoying The Windsor! Thank you for the privilege to serve you and your family.
The facility is a good place if your loved one has less than moderate case of dementia or alzheimers. The aides are not as responsive to residents who need more attention. Activities are limited in nature. Residents have to be pretty much capable of doing things for themselves. The aides are nice though just not all that responsive to needs of less capable residents. Additional services are pricier than other assisted living facilities I have been too or visited.

We chose The Windsor of Lawrence because it has a very homey feel. It was able to take Medicaid with no large amount needing to be paid first. They all know my mom and are knowledgeable about her. They are kind and understanding even when she can be a little demanding.

May 10, 2024Thank you so much for sharing your experience! We're glad to hear The Windsor of Lawrence provides a homey atmosphere and personalized care for your mom. Our team is dedicated to kindness and understanding, and we're thrilled to know it's making a difference.
Of course we would recommend it to others. Staff/care made it feel like home away from home and were very welcoming to visitors as well. The only negative is last stage of Alzheimer's, probably not the best fit. But still satisfied with care and facility. It is a very tough job and staff were always kind and patient with all residents.

My uncle that lived there was only alive for 17 days while there. He was on hospice, so as far as activities, I can't say he participated in anything. We did have a run in with one nurse that worked there who was a bit rude, but other than that they were very nice and attentive.

The facility meets our requests and the staff are very friendly and helpful. The only concern we are having is communication between medical staff and Hospice.

There was no complaints about the food. It was a friendly community and a happy place, and the staff interacted well with the residents. It is a really really nice place. Overall, I would recommend to other families.

Our family had an in person tour with The Windsor of Lawrence and we thought the community was absolutely beautiful, but it was just going to be way to expensive for our loved one to go there

April 24, 2023Thank you for taking the time to come in for a tour! We are happy to hear you had a good experience. Come back and visit anytime!
We had a great tour at The Windsor. The guy we spoke to there was so nice. It was the first place that I toured, which was overwhelming for me, yet he was so calm. After we toured, he would call me to see how things were going. He was conversational and seemed to genuinely care. I would have had no issue with choosing The Windsor. We ended up choosing an entirely different location. Also, the couple of rooms The Windsor had available seemed a little dark and didn’t have a great view. And there was not really outdoor space for the residents to go to. But overall, I thought they were great.

It's a very clean facility. Most of the staff seems very friendly but they are understaffed like most facilities. And don't have an RN a on staff around the clock.

I like the community. My friend is happier here than another community they were at. The staff communication has been good if we have had questions or concerns. The community serves three meals a day to the residents, and my friend seems to enjoy them. There are activities available for the residents to participate in.

Most amazing team my family has ever worked with! Very supportive company for staff appreciation and recognition! And goes above and beyond to care for the residents. So very grateful!
I think that the Windsor has been good for my mom. She has been there since [date removed]. She would recommend more food choices for the residents. She likes the activities she gets to participate in and the Enrichment Coordinator is amazing with my mom. You can tell she truly loves her job. There has been quite a turn over which is hard on my mom as having dementia and keeping routine people is key in her success for daily life. We are grateful for this community and their staff.
Engaged Director and staff residents were in an activity and all were active and participating. Apartments good size, community was clean. We are in the process of getting up a 2 nd tour and assessment for my client and daughter.
We do like the fact our mother is happy there, the residents are all pretty friendly, and the staff members are friendly However, sometimes we are concerned that the level of care is not where it needs to be, as well as the lack of communication with the staff.

Make sure you talk with the staff and tour to make sure this is where you want to go or not. I wish I had asked more questions about medication management and medical care in general. They've tried to communicate with me some about my loved one's care. I wish there was more, but I understand it's a difficult situation right now. I feel like they're decent at getting back to me. Another family member feels otherwise. But I thought they were great about calling about vaccinations and were real sticklers about cleanliness and keeping Covid out. I believe they've had only one case total. And they were very transparent about it, which was good.

This is a very caring, loving community who is disorganized. They are also having trouble with the pandemic. There have been residents who have contracted COVID. The management doesn't have it all together.

A Place for Mom has scored The Windsor of Lawrence 9.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
