Delaware Highlands

My loved one is a resident at Delaware Highlands. The paperwork process is nearly impossible, everything else was great and easy. The staff seems to be great.

Went to tour facility for my mother. Upon entry it is congested with residents just sitting by the doorway. The ceilings had signs of leaking. The center itself was ok. Was very cluttered and unorganized in the community kitchen and dining rooms on each floor. Just an abundance of chairs and random things just pushed back into a wall. There was no thought in making it look halfway decent. The apartment itself was very nice. You have to pay 325.00 per month for meals rather you eat once a day or not at all. The barber shop/salon is only open 1 day and the prices they post are outrageous for a senior living facility. They can go down the street and get it cheaper. Some things just doesn't seem right. Overall disappointed.

Overall I was very impressed with the everything, except they didn't have any activities at all when my dad was there. They definitely need an activities director to have things like...bingo, card games they like to play, maybe a movie night, arts and crafts. There are a ton of activities the residents would like to take part in. They could have a Casino day and use Monopoly money. Especially need to have Holiday themed get togethers.

Staff was very friendly. The facility was clean and fresh. They answered all our questions and gave us all the information we needed to proceed.

There appears to be thieves at work here. My mother has had money, jewelry, and gift cards taken from her room. This is not a one time event, but has occurred at least three times. Activities are limited. They don't have enough activities nor do they have enough trips to get the seniors out and about in the community.

They had some issues with too much salt in the food.They had a meeting and that has since been resolved. The reason I rated them a four is they are replacing the hallway carpet in the facility and they asked the residents to leave for the day. My mother is 84 and it was a really big inconvenience for me to leave work early to stay with her so she wouldn't be alone. When I dropped her off at 4 they still hadn't finished replacing the carpet in her section.

First, the community does NOT accept cats. They need to update this on their site. Activities could be more frequent and varied. There has to be more than arm chair exercises. They should focus on getting residents up and moving, being engaged in life, etc. A limited number of residents can go to Walmart, they must sign up and hope there is room for them on the bus. Tablecloths are not on the table during meal times. Tablecloths appear on their website. Pictures should reflect actual conditions. They need a bookmobile to visit regularly. Activities should be a priority. Shower curtains could be replaced more frequently. When they are filthy, they need to be washed or replaced. There has been some aggressive residents that put others at risk of harm. The staff do seem to address these matters swiftly after an incident has occurred. Men approaching women inappropriately also has occurred. Some male residents [removed]. I do not know if the women are guilty of the same.

This is definitely a new found home for your loved ones. Every staff person we saw always are very pleasant. There was not one tenant that we talked to that wasn't satisfied. It is beautiful inside and out. 3 full balanced meals each day. They have activities almost daily and there is always a list posted for outings.

This is definitely a HOME for your loved ones. Every tenant we spoke to, rated it very highly. The whole staff are so friendly. They have almost daily activities that you can participate in. And if someone wants to come have a meal with their loved one, they can. It is beautiful inside and out and well taken care of.
