The Joseph Knowland State Arboretum and Park is home to The Oakland Zoo, along with many rare native plants, endangered species, bobcats, and mountain lions. Lake Merritt, located in the center of Oakland, is another great spot for a leisurely afternoon. The popular lake features grassy shores, a nature center, a boat house where you can rent boats and canoes, and a 3.4-mile walking path that runs around the water’s edge. Lake Merritt is also home to the oldest bird sanctuary in North America.
