Independent Living
The staff is very helpful and friendly. They are very good about communicating with the family about your loved one, and you can call and ask about them any time. The move-in process is smooth, but be ready to produce documents like Medicaid info, living will, driver's license, etc. The meals are very good. I would highly recommend The Blake at Kingsport to others.
When it comes to the meals and dining, this area needs lots of work. There needs to be healthier, fresh food...more vegetables and fruits. And better quality meats. The activities has recently dramatically improved with the hiring of a really good activities director. Previously, there were limited activities for the residents. Overall, we are happy with The Courtyards but there's room for improvement.
It's a very nice place for someone with dementia, which my aunt had. My uncle died within a week of arriving there and my aunt fell about 2 months later and fractured her hip, so she left there and passed away in a rehab facility post surgery. I really appreciated A Place for Mom's help in finding a place.

If you or your loved one desire the convenience of having your housekeeping managed by professionalls while living your life at your own pace, you might consider the option of an Independent Living Community. Basic needs such as meal planning and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and leisure activities is provided, allowing residents the autonomy to use their time as they choose, free from daily obligations. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to live among peers, in a community with others of similar age groups and backgrounds. Typically comprised of a private living area and a full kitchen, these communities offer homes with many of the amenities of apartment life but with none of the hassle. Guests can be invited over and entertained, and there will be more time to spend with them with the basic maintenance of daily chores out of the way. While policies differ between communities, many residences allow cats and dogs as well.
