The longer my mother was there, we realized, that the nursing staff was not sufficient for her needs. Often times there would be no nurse available, or we would not get a return phone call and answer to our questions. They tried to bill us for Nursing care that she did not receive. And they could not produce any documentation for it. There was also three different instances where items were stolen from my mother‘s room. It included and not only cash, but also gift cards that we had purchased for her to give out to the staff. My mom had friends there, and it was hard for her to leave. But ultimately, I believe we made the right decision and she does too.

When it comes to the meals and dining, this area needs lots of work. There needs to be healthier, fresh food...more vegetables and fruits. And better quality meats. The activities has recently dramatically improved with the hiring of a really good activities director. Previously, there were limited activities for the residents. Overall, we are happy with The Courtyards but there's room for improvement.

My loved one was previously a resident at The Courtyards at Johnson City- The Gardens for a brief time and overall the experience was okay. I'm sure it's a pretty good place, but I guess I expected them to be able to handle his behaviors since they accepted him. The last day he was there he had a procedure and anesthesia that day and that night was more confused and combative and struck one of the workers. They sent him out and would not take him back. They didn't really seem trained to deal with his behaviors when he shutdown. Also, I noticed some staff baby talking some of the clients. I know cognitively they're impaired, but they're not babies.

[name removed]--recently promoted to the facility director is excellent and and is the main reason the facility is well run. He puts the residents first and it shows. It would be nice if they could offer bus rides.

When it comes to the activities there have been budget cuts and not enough staff to allow for off campus travel. Bingo seems to be the only thing they do. There was a change in directorship. She came from the nursing side and is very kind, but administrative/communication is not her strong suit. This could definitely be improved as well as in-house activities/ visitors. For the most part it is small and very personal which is a blessing, but one or 2 more staff will be helpful.

Our family had an in person tour with The Courtyards at Johnson City and it seemed spread out and dark. The rooms seemed too much like a hospital setting. However the activity director seemed great.
We have been thankful that Courtyards has been a great home for my mom. I believe everyone faces challenges in the transition to assisted living but the staff at Courtyards has been very responsive to all of our requests. They do a difficult job in the best of times and we've seen them step in when times are tough. We know our mom is safe, cared for and has settled in nicely to the Courtyards.

My husband was there a day and half and pulled out his catheter and they would not allow him to come back. They said they were unable to care for him. Got him a special bed that goes up and down, had paid for the full month and they wouldn't provide any form of refund at all.
They are great. It's a wonderful concept. It doesn't feel like assisted living or an institution. It would be nice if they had more staff. I never feel like my loved care has suffered due to this. This place is always clean. It has a kitchen located centrally. The elders can come and watch as the food is being cooked like at home. They have a house dog. They have a garden. This place is the most bang for your buck. It is more secure here than other places costing triple what we pay.
Very nice community.
My brother thought it was a nice facility. We think it may be a fit. The food at Princeton is a real concern so he checked out the meal situation at The Courtyards and found it much more appealing.

Reasonably priced, considerate staff, food OK. Small patient populations (15-20) in each of 3 'houses' for advancing needs. Total package well above average.

They have been a blessing! They are loving to her. They check for UTI's on a regular basis which is SO important as that causes dementia patients to fall & have confusion. They found she got one & she got treatment right away. That is why I moved her because the last place let her live with that for a month! It is sunny and bright there. Mother is cleaner and has been like a flower blooming.

The food is great. My mom however, is an amazing cook and she would like it to be seasoned better. They offer a variety of activities for the residents to enjoy. A musician comes out twice a month and plays the guitar and piano. They take residents out on trips to the lake. For the care that they provide they are reasonable priced. The staff did a an amazing job getting mom moved in and we are satisfied with the care they provide.

We are very pleased overall with our experience with The Courtyards at Johnson City, I'd give them high marks across the board! The guidance they provided during the touring and move-in process was top notch, and really reduced the stress of the whole situation. The community itself is clean and well kept, and the staff all seem very friendly and helpful.
