My mom has always disliked hospitals and has been afraid all her life of being put in a home. after a unexpected fall at home medicare covers up to 20 days for rehabilitation. I chose sunny vista at random off a list, and it was the best choice I ever made. It is like a high end resort not a hospital, rooms are large, comfortable and clean, Halls are wide and well lit, the grounds are lovely, food is good even for picky eaters like my mom, and the staff is amazing they helped me with paperwork and walked me through everything step by step, they got my mom back on her feet in 2 weeks, my mom actually wanted to stay longer.... I have already recommended this community to a friend. I really like the place. This is a smaller community, and I like the patio for the memory care residents. When they had music all the residents came and listened in the lobby.

There current director of the community is leaving due to retirement at the end of December. She made several changes for the better. The community had several activities for the residents prior to COVID. There is a new activities director and she is very good with the residents. My loved one loves the community, her apartment, the food and the chef.

Working with the people at The Retreat at Sunny Vista has been an absolute pleasure. They are very responsive and completely focused on giving the absolute best care to their residents. Their commitment to excellence is commendable. I also like the amenities they offer, the senior activities and community events. I highly recommend them.

My mother was here for about 4 months. Care depends on the caregiver who finally answers the call button. Some caregivers have education, experience and care, offering excellent service. Most caregivers have little to no training or experience. One caregiver asked what DNR meant on my mom's bracelet. Wearing gloves for the caregivers seemed optional when assisting with personal hygiene. Medicine, personal hygiene items ordered and delivered through hospice were often missing. My mother waited for over an hour and no one answered her call button. She fell out of her chair trying to get to her wheel chair. No one from Sunny Vista called any of the family to let us know and when we brought it to their attention, the administration went mute. No apology and then it happened a second time! Meal service was a long drawn out ordeal. Ordering could take 10 - 20 minutes, then usually 20-30 minutes to receive the meal. In the months my mother was there, it seemed the dining staff was in great flux. Actually caregiver turnover was very high, always new staff. Seems top heavy in administrative staff who wander around the lobby and dining room but have little to do with residents.

A Place for Mom has scored The Retreat at Sunny Vista 8.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
