April 11, 2024Thank you so much for your review.
This is assisted living. I only need meds, assistance with shower and food, so the limited activities don't bother me much. I was hoping for some reason to leave my apartment, but bingo is not it. We have a new director who is great. Meet her and get another opinion.

April 11, 2024Thank you so much. I hope you are seeing all of the wonderful changes [name removed] has been making.
The workers are really great, but they were frequently understaffed the head of nursing I had to call corporate on twice they have now been taken over by OPAL. It is quaint and small, nice food and nice people. Hard to keep a consistent staff. They have not been able to keep a consistent cleaning person.

The cleaning staff is lacking. My loved one's room is not routinely cleaned, they have a lot of staffing issues. I think the main issue is that there is not enough staff that actually care about their job. They keep charging for services they aren't providing and are non responsive when we ask for a refund. At this point we have been charged about 3000 more than we should have been. The food is getting better but there were some VERY skimpy meals. The staff are not responsive when the call button is pushed. My loved one waited two hours for help. They only offer shower assistance twice a week and they have missed the day multiple times. They are going through a company change so it may get better, but at this point I would not suggest and if significant changes don't occur we will be looking for other options.

January 23, 2024Thank you for providing us valuable feedback. As we have just transitioned ownership, we would love the opportunity to discuss further. Please call me at 239-292-1513 or email me at ayla@opalsl.com so we can ensure all concerns are addressed.
My family has been here a long time when it was Brookdale, now Opal. This place is just barely getting by - it’s dirty, see staff on phones all the time, ignoring residents, most staff are here for a paycheck, alarms go off a lot and no leadership here. It’s a hot mess!. Beginning Dec 2023 the cleanliness of the building has changed. It smells better and our love one’s room is now extra clean. My family met new house keeper who actually cleans this place. She’s AMAZING, polite, professional, sweet and the best part very patient/kind to our mother and other residents here. You can see she truly cares for these residents and wants a clean living environment for them to live in. She goes out of her way each day to make sure these residents are happy. We visit a lot, see clearly the bond these residents and [name removed] share, mutual love and respect for each other. These residents adore her and vice versa. My family LOVES LOVES LOVES [name removed]. OPAL needs a lot more [name removed].

Brookdale has a new manager - this seems to be a big improvement. Brookdale Hermitage is also to start new ownership in 2024. Unfortunately my experience with Brookdale is while they were in trouble. The cook left abruptly - one night the management finally ordered pizzas because there was no one to cook dinner. Housekeeping and nursing staff were pulled to cook. Staff was going through great turnover and often short staffed. Staff suddenly taking vacation and not returning. No one to transport or drive bus for doctor appointments. This was at the same time that my mother's health was declining. Also great inconsistencies in medication administration, mother not kept clean, room often smelled of urine, mother developed a bed sore. I brought in Hospice who informed me they had no nursing assistants. A couple of Brookdale nurses and one nursing assistant were able to help me when they were on duty . They are under new management and I believe they are getting their act together.

We picked this community because of the cost and location. My loved one seems content. I would probably recommend to others.

I love to sit and look in the garden and watch the dogs plat and people sitting. I love the exercise class! It starts my day! I love it, it's clean and friendly. The caregivers are so sweet, no trouble with anyone. I don't need to ask for anything. They have it before I even ask

There's a warmth here that you won't find anywhere else and I've been to all of them. It's the upbeat, warm and gentle staff that makes the residents want to be warm and gentle. There's a great staff here, and I can't imagine being anywhere else.

A Place for Mom has scored The Opal on Hermitage 9.3 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
