Good Morning [Removed], My husband and I had a very nice visit to Sunrise @ North Hills. It is in a good location for us and would work nicely. The Staff was very friendly, receptionist, activity director and chef. [Removed] was informative and gave us a good tour. The apartment we were shown looked very nice. We took measurements. Unfortunately, most of the residents were leaving for an outing so we did not get to meet them. We will have to take my Dad for a visit and get his feedback also. I realize they have an available apartment now, but we are not ready to move quite that fast. Thank you for your help and we will keep you informed as to our decision. [Removed]

We had toured all the Sunrise Properties and we were generally impressed with all of them. The staff was very helpful and friendly on the tour. The community was clean and well maintained. They have medical staff on site all the time. They have lovely grounds and the community is not that old only about 4 years old.

Dad seems to be adjusting better and doing as well as can be expected. He would much rather be at home but that is just not an option for him. He seems to be fitting in with the other residents and starting to socialize with them. He has one of the largest rooms in the building so he is very comfortable in his living space. he has not complained about the food so I am assuming he likes it. We are very happy in regards to the care and attention he is getting.

When I first got here my impression was that it was more of a ward setting not that of an open community like I was looking for for my wife. And my wife's evaluation disqualified her because they felt that they would not be able to address her needs in the independent/assisted living area.

We found when we toured this community that the parking was very difficult. The inside was nice but appeared to be on the dark side maybe it was the furnishings there seemed to be enough natural light coming in through the windows. I felt the community along with the rooms could have been a little more open. However, the staff and the residents seemed friendly.

My mom' stay is going great! The staff are attentive and the facility is nice. Though my mother does not participate in activities too often, the staff do a great job at encouraging her to get out and get active. My mother likes her room, as it is private and spacious. I also like the fact that we got a great deal on her stay, and it worked within our budget.

My mother lived at Sunrise at North Hills from October 2016-June 2017. Positive: Overall, it was a great place for her to live and reacclimate after a brain injury. The facility is beautiful, well-kept, and has a positive energy about it. They always have fresh flowers on display and the community Labrador, Tilly, always greets you at the door. They have therapy services on-site and an abundance of activities all day long. My mother was able to have her small dog and even take him to the activities. All of the staff have good intentions and are very friendly. They have difficult jobs and they do them with a smile on their faces. Suggestions for Improvement: The Med Techs and LPNs at Sunrise at North Hills are absolutely wonderful, but the facility would greatly benefit from having more RNs on hand. RNs possess the level of education necessary to assess and manage more complicated illnesses such as Type 1 Diabetes. The staff failed to recognize their improper use of insulin needles and my mother’s subsequent symptoms of Diabetic Ketoacidosis, a serious and potentially life-threatening complication of Diabetes. Fortunately, I am a nurse and live nearby, so I was able to recognize the severity of the situation and take her to the hospital, but that was the duty of the Sunrise staff. They eventually learned to manage her Diabetes and did so very well for many months afterwards, but the ordeal was stressful, expensive, and avoidable. Therefore, I would highly recommend Sunrise at North Hills for loved ones with easily manageable chronic illnesses, minor disabilities, or those in need of respite stays.

This community was nice, however it is three floors and I did not think that would work for mom. I did like that they cook the entrees and show them to the memory care residents so they can choose what they want to eat. The people we met were nice and the community seemed clean.

My mother moved here recently and it's going well so far. She is getting involved by playing BINGO and going to a baking class. I've tried the food and it was too bland but she seems to like it. We chose this community because the location was convenient. They also had a nice layout and offer many things to do. I also liked that they had more assisted living residents than some of the other communities I toured. They offer the level of care she needs.

The staff is doing very well and seem to do the very best that they can with my dad. Dad has gone to a few activities that they have. Dad also likes the food that they serve. I'm happy that they keep the community and dad's room clean for him. We also like that we have friends from our church that go here and so dad knows some people already.

A large Facility, not easily laid out for those with memory issues, very confusing for residents and visitors. A large staff, though in Memory Unit the ratio is not as good as one would hope...but slightly overcome by very hard-working and caring staff members! My biggest complaint is that cost of Care...the cost of rooms is similar to others (seems outrageous to pay $5,000+ for a room, but that is the market)...where Sunrise differs is the cost of care, prescription administration, etc. They are 3 to 4 times higher than comparable facilities, and even after an early assessment of low care, they hit families with higher needs, often just before they move in.

We've had so many problems here in the last 5 years it's just sad, first the cleaning staff just sucks, we actually hired our own staff to clean my mothers room as the sunrise staff failed. The care is poor at best, out of 30 times we've asked them to have her dressed and downstairs only twice has this actually occurred. I've seen more intelligent staff at dog daycare facilities. We even had the state come in and investigate them.

It'seems a very lovely atmosphere but lacked the feel of a community. The staff didn't seem to be as familiar with the residents and the sales director continued to try to upsell me from a one bedroom to a two bedroom. She has also called several times offering specials, which is kind of her but I feel as though when you are trying to find a home for your parents it's a bit different then booking a vacation, to say the least.

Things are going very well with my parents at Sunrise at North Hills. They're adapting well and they say they love it. The staff is very nice and responsive. It does seem that some stuff is not getting communicated well from the administration down to the staff. But the admin is proactive in trying new things to resolve small issues. Everyone is working really hard at getting them acclimated. Their dog is with them and getting more exercise, there are dog walkers who take him on walks. They don't like the lunch/dinner food, but they are picky. Family members take them out for lunch or dinner a lot. My Dad likes the breakfast food though, says it's great. The people in charge of activities have tried to get my parents involved. They have a very nice selection of activities and events.

Excellent visit. Facility is very nice - happy feel. Staff members I met were very professional. I learned many have long tenures which speaks to the companys philosophy. Strongly considering this option

We were satisfied with it. They were friendly and caring. The food was well prepared and pretty appealing looking. There are little things that need to be better coordinated for a respite stay vs a permanent resident, things like mail and such. Other than that they did a good job.

August 26, 2015Thank you for sharing your respite experience; we have shared your concern with the community and appreciate your feedback. Sunrise Team
I am satisfied overall. I think the activities could be tweaked a little bit more, I don't think they reach everyone's level. Seniors tend to get cliquey. They are very expensive, and I don't think for the space that you get that it's worth the price. The food is okay, but it's not home cooking.

Everything is positive. The facility and people are great. I just wish the care managers could engage my aunt a little bit more. We're very happy for her to be there. If there is a change in rate, you should never leave a voicemail about the rates going up. There should be a meeting about it first. We did work it out. It was a huge misunderstanding, but it all could of been avoided. I would say they need better communication and care status. Everything else is great.

Mother is almost 100% disabled and they take excellent care of her. They get her out of bed, get her dressed and clean, and make sure she is well fed and cared for. One area where they could improve would be to have an emergency button that the residents could push at any time to get immediate urgent care if needed.

My parents really like it. The staff is really friendly. However, for a place that you would expect to see hospital beds, there is not too much room for them.
