Independence Village of Ankeny

I love how this is a small community and the staff and nurses strive to really know the residents. Many also know me as a family member! I like the variety of events and fun outings. The communication has been great via email, texting or dropping in. I feel reassured they're really looking at my dad as a person and helping him thrive.

My first impression of IV Ankeny was the clean open atmosphere and the pleasant smell. Everyone we met seemed happy including the residents. Mom fought us at first but soon became excited to see the apartments. Fortunately the best apartment was available. New paint new carpet and hard flooring seems to happen for each new resident. I have highly recommended IV Ankeny to friends. My family enjoys visiting mom here also.

Our loved one really likes the facility and the space, but with the pandemic there are still some limitations. The biggest improvement this community could make would be to have a consistent work force, there has been a pretty high turnover rate.

They're wonderful with their clients. If you request something, they're on it, like right now. They keep up on the bloodwork and make sure the residents are seen by the doctor when they need to be. They try to assist the family any way that they can, especially through the challenges of the pandemic. They offer Individualized activities, and would sit one-on-one with the residents to do things like arts and crafts with them. There was always something for the residents to do. They've come up with some pretty unique things too, like going fishing in a pool, artwork and papier mache. Even the staff will make stuff for the residents and make it special for them. Independence Village was a godsend, and they were so good to my loved one.

The community is understaffed and unfortunately, some of the staff is just rude. The community was not good at communication between the staff and the families. We would call and not receive a response. I would not recommend the community to others.

This is a friendly, helpful, safe, sanitized home for mom. we can rest assured that mom is taken care of and shown the respect and courtesy she deserves. I am proud to recommend this home to everyone I talk to , I am thankful for the safe guards implemented to protect mom during this covid-19 pandemic.

Love it! Our mom is in memory care and the executive director is probably the best that we've ever met. He's compassionate, caring and understands what the families are going through especially during this time.

I think the person in charge is overworked and unable to do everything that is required in a timely manner. The chef and the food is exemplary. We chose this community because of its location, cleanliness, and the fact that they have a memory care on the campus which we needed.

I think anyone would like to live here. There are activities to be enjoyed. There are facilities that meet the needs of retirees. There is a community of retirees from all parts of the state and country. One can enjoy the activities of a large city that is only few miles away from Ankeny. There is a wonderful staff of wonderful people. It’s a great place to sit back and relax.

I had recently taken a tour of this community for my mother and I was pleased with how our visit had went. The staff where on time to our appointment and did a great job with the presentation as well as answer any questions I had for them in detail. The property was clean and we had liked the open floor plan. We ended up choosing a different place that was just a little more updated and newer.

My mother had recently lived at this community for a short period of time and I was pleased with her experience of this place. It was newer facility so they where still working out some things but for the most part everything went well. The staff where attentive to her needs and I was comfortable with the care she had been receiving. I would defiantly recommend it to anyone interested in an assisted living for there loved one.
