My comments here are concerning the Memory Care Unit specifically. Overall, I think it's an excellent facility. It's clean. It's relatively new. The staff doesn't have to work with old or outdated equipment and everyone is kind and appears happy to work there. Improvements that could be made: I would like to see more fresh fruits and vegetables served at meals. It's difficult in memory care to serve fresh salads, but I think it can be done. Lunch is almost always a sandwich and not everyone likes to eat sandwiches. I think that there could be more of a balance in that area. That's just a lot of bread sometimes. I would like to see more variety in activities, encouraging residents, especially those in memory care, to enjoy fresh air of the outside patio. By stationing an associate on the patio for one or two hours per day, residents should be able to roam in and out as they please during this time. Their patio is fully enclosed with no chance of residents wandering off. Even with these comments, requesting improvements, I still think it's an excellent facility and in my opinion, the best that we toured. This was the only facility's memory care unit that I toured that did not put everyone into a small room with a television for their entertainment. Residents frequently do gather in the dining room and some even sleep, there but they do so on their own accord.

October 25, 2024Thank you for your 5-star review Janet! We are grateful you would take the time to share your experiences and suggestions with us. Our associates can only achieve excellence when we know and understand what each individual resident wants and needs. There is a resident and family survey in the coming days, so please do allow us to hear all your ideas by participating. We believe that our associates-first culture and company promise, ‘to do for each other with love’ means listening and understanding each person’s needs. Thank you.
I can honestly say thw front desk clerk ([name removed]) will be your new best friend! If you need anything he will get it or tell you where to get it! As for the maintenance crew, they are amazing! [name removed] will assemble or disassemble anything you need! He will also help load your car if you have a heavy object! The food is amazing and the chef is super nice! As for the medical aides most are great but the night crew needs work. There were many times they did not change my husband's diaper before the shift change although they claimed they did. The morning staff came in to a wet resident as well as the whole bed! Unacceptable! There does not seem to be enough medical aides to cover all the residents needing help. This needs to be improved! The nurses ([name removed] and [name removed]) were nice too! Although, the facility needs to improve their medication billing! I brought in medication from home yet received bills for the medication! How is that possible? This could be a great facility but it isn't yet!

Response from Harrison on 5th by Senior Star
April 24, 2024Thank you for your compliments on our common areas. We appreciate your confirmation of the great part of town where Harrison on 5th is located. We are happy you are enjoying life here and thank you for recommending us.
The facility is beautiful, rooms are great. Not many residents in memory care yet since it's a new building. It will be better when more move in. Never got the message that residents are in charge of providing their own toilet paper. Now we know. My loved one is a challenge, so I'm very thankful they are there to care for and help her. Brings me great piece of mind.

A Place for Mom has scored Harrison on 5th by Senior Star 8.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
