I had higher expectations of this place. Does not meet my standards of coverage of aids to patients as well as terrible food. Not the cleanest facility but they try hard. It's an old building. Not designed for this purpose. Staff is very friendly even if they can't help change anything. With the quality of care - It is bare minimum staffing. The food is worse than my lunchroom food in high school. It says a lot when the staff doesn't eat the food. I see them ordering in food almost every day. They seem to have many activities but my mom doesn't participate. When I was researching, this was the largest apt. For the price for her. I regret my decision to put her here but I'm not moving her again. If any of them were any better staffing I might but I'm not moving her at this time.

Response from Kensington Place
November 1, 2023Hello. We are very sorry to hear of your experience and regret. We are actively working to improve many things at Kensington. Staffing is a huge issue at most senior living facilities post-pandemic, but we are rebuilding our staff. We are also working with our food and dining vendor to create menus and meals that our residents enjoy. If you'd like to speak with our executive director, we'd love to talk more about how we can make your and your mom's experience better.
It's a very enjoyable place for independent living. Assistance is unreliable.

My 90-year old father and I live in Kensington Place. From the day that we toured the facility, we found it very welcoming from the staff and the residents. The community offers a wide array of activities, is clean and the dining room offers many tasty options for breakfast and dinner. We have been very pleased with the staff especially in the dining room. They are always very eager to please and always have smiles on their faces. I watch how they treat the assisted living who live there with respect and loving care! It warms my heart! I still work during the day, but my father has ample opportunities to socialize and pursue his interests while I am at work. I feel very comfortable leaving in the morning knowing if anything happened, he would be well taken care of. I highly recommend this facility!

Kensington Place is excellent! High quality, caring staff make this a top notch retirement community. It provides many activities both in-house and off-campus. The food is good (something that is important in any retirement community. Kensington provides independent living, assisted living, and memory care. The memory care capacity is limited, so plan accordingly. When my step-father needed memory-care there were no openings available (until just after I'd committed elsewhere). Kensington is the retirement community I'd want to retire to. As there are very, very few retirement communities that I'd consider, this is high praise!

Kensington Place was excellent! We had no problems there, but had an issue with my stepfather's condition. He needed memory care when memory care was full at Kensington. I strongly recommend Kensington for anyone looking for a place for an elderly loved one to live! Specifically: All members of the staff were courteous and helpful in any way possible, providing information, access, and anything else needed to make [name removed]'s stay wonderful. Many activities were available, which [name removed] availed himself to several. The food is excellent, and all staff polite, helpful, and encouraging.

This place has gone downhill since the new director, Renee has taken over. The meals are mediocre, this morning there was no breakfast since the cook didnt show up! There are not enough aids and nurses , so you can wait up to 30 minutes before and aid or a nurse shows up. Tnere is no management there on the weekends or the evening. Poorly run facility.

Kensington offers everything Mom would love if she were placed here. From keeping her own phone number, wonderful activities, chef prepared food, laundry, pull chords, spacious apartments & studios, piano player in the main entryway , movies, transportation for grocery, shopping, and appointments. Last but not least, [Name removed] and her staff were friendly and wonderful.

Generally the care and services are very good, except we have noticed since the new director came on there is a significant issue with a shortage of both aids and nurses. Both the aids and the nurses do an exceptional job but because of the constant shortage of staff the care does get compromised The wait for assistance has increased, some of the smaller tasks don't get done (dishes getting done, clothes put away, trash not being removed) This is not only frustrating but my parent is paying for these services. Also the food is definately not as good as it use to be, seems they are buying cheaper cuts of meat, desserts are no longer homemade. Some of the ammenities that brought them to the Kensington Place are no longer provided. Again I must reiterate that the aids, nurses ,dining hall staff and the desk staff are all great and do the best they can with the limited staff they have. The employees really care about the residents and always have a smile.

Response from Kensington Place
January 5, 2018At LSS Kensington Place, we take the care and comfort of our residents very seriously. If you’d like to talk further about your concerns, please contact Renee Walburn, executive director, at [removed].
I toured the Kensington Place CommunityThe people were nice that gave the tour, but I just did not feel it would be a good fit for my loved one. I did not like where it was located, I would not have felt comfortable visiting at nighttime.

The Kensington Place was warm and welcoming, but would not gear their program around the needs of the family. The staff was professional and respectful. They needed to come to their own conclusions about future residents rather than rely on previous senior community information that's inaccurate. Disappointed with the way they handled the medical assessment process.

Response from Kensington Place
June 29, 2017Thank you for taking the time to review LSS Kensington Place. Our number one priority is the safety and well-being of our residents. The assessment of a potential resident is done to ensure they will be safe in our community and to assure that we are able to meet their specific needs. When someone is a current resident of a senior living community and wishes to move to Kensington, our protocol is to reach out to that community. This gives us a better understanding of daily care needs so that we are able to meet and exceed the expectations of both the resident and the family. Occasionally, the review indicates needs that are best met in a setting that the resident or their family does not agree with. As difficult as it may be, we have an obligation to act in the best interests of the resident(s) and both their current and future care needs. We wish you well and thank you for your feedback.
Very nice and just off of I670. Prices are great and the place is very clean and nice big rooms! They even do the laundry for you every other week and clean the room, but you can always do laundry yourself in between.

How could I not love Kensington Place? After living here for 16 years, the food is always great, the people are caring, and life is wonderful! There’s a wide variety of in-house events, transportation to doctor’s appointments, and ample parking…gracious staff, comfortable apartment…a variety of religious programs and an in-house chaplain…16 years of happy living!

Mom is really enjoying herself here. She has started to get involved in some of the activities that they have. She said that she likes the meals. We liked it here because it had a good feel and felt homey. Also it is very close to me.

A Place for Mom has scored Kensington Place 2 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
