Review for Grand Brook Memory Care of Zionsville

Given that there is no perfect place when a loved one reaches this point with dementia, I would strongly recommend Grandbrook; in fact, I have recommended it to a number of friends seeking care solutions. I think they do very well, in spite of the typical challenges, facing a dementia care community. The core team of directors are excellent, very caring, and make the place feel like a family, especially [names removed] Staff turnover at Grandbrook is lower than many places, but it is still a big issue. This means we have lost a number of really great staff members over the last year and a half, and they are generally always integrating new people, which could be hard for the residents. Aside from concerns over too little staff present on weekends, my only real concern is that they have had trouble keeping a Director of Activities on staff. This means the residents don't have enough activities, and often don't have enough variety in their activities. They should definitely be getting more exercise, and should be encouraged to get outside more when weather allows, which is very often. They also need to integrate more music into the programming, rather than just playing the same movies on a loop every day. More integration of well-known research on the benefits of music for dementia patients would be a huge improvement that Grandbrook needs to consider. We as families have raised all of these issues with the Directors, and they are generally very willing to listen, but changes are slow to happen. Turnover of residence is frequent, too, so demands seem to come and go as family seem to come and go.... Read more

Excellent facility for memory care

This is the 2nd facility my Dad has been placed in and the 1st I've felt completely comfortable with. The facility is very modern, clean, and absolutely beautiful. The rooms feel like bedrooms and not hospital or nursing home rooms. Staff is always very helpful and friendly. Nurse on staff is always available to discuss care and answer any questions. Environment is extremely secure and even has courtyard that has flowers and vegetable plants in a very relaxing backyard feel. The care is specifically designed for dementia patients and they really do understand the behavior and how to respond to them.

Highly recommend

We chose Grand Brook because of the management staff, the cleanliness of the facility, the spaciousness of the rooms, and also the way that they do their meals. They have an open concept kitchen so residents can see the food being prepared and visit, it is more home like. That was one of the most unique parts of this facility, we did not see that anywhere else that we looked. The courtyard that they have is just beautiful, there is an outdoor fireplace, television, sitting areas, etc. I would definitely recommend to others looking.

Despite COVID, You Have to Trust Where Your Parent Is, I do Trust Grand Brook

There have been a lot of staffing changes at Grand Brook. I think this community is a good place. COVID has made things more difficult for everything. This isn't due to the community, it is because of what we are dealing with now. Grand Brook was great from my perspective prior to COVID. The community had testing requirements of only once for visits to our loved ones in the community. They maybe changing this. They have suspended visits at this time. This Grand Brook didn't send me pictures of my loved one to me. I feel they lacked communication with families on their loved ones. They did make COVID requirements, and they send this daily to families.

I would rate them higher than 5 if I could. They are number one in the state. They have done a great job with Covid-19 keeping the residents safe. They have religious services. They have snack time. The food is excellent. They have entertainment coming in and a lot of activities and two activities directors.
