Graceland at Garden Ridge review

From our first tour visit through family member's current residency, everyone at Graceland is caring and kind, very responsive to requests & questions from family members/resident. The general areas are kept tidy and odor-free (e.g., accidental spills are attended to quickly). Individual room housekeeping gets daily basic attention (e.g. trash removal) but the monthly detailed room clean-up is lacking due to short staff headcount. Everyone ~ from Administrative level through the day-to-day staff ~ at Graceland shows compassion and care to all. Quality of care. >> some days a 4, other days a 2. it depends on staff number for the day and the number of incidents needing prompt attention. Overall, the menu is bland; lacks fresh vegetables and appealing flavors. There are daily offerings but family member does not participate. There are no off-site offerings. After visiting a dozen assisted living facilities, Graceland was chosen as a good fit for my family member due to its location, homey atmosphere, friendly-caring staff. SO RELIEVED!!

It is SO refreshing to know the new team of managers are making MAJOR improvements! We didnt have the best experience with the previous executive director, but with changes in management, my family and I have witnessed firsthand the love and compassion our mother and the rest of the residents are receiving! [name removed], the new director, is wonderful and you can sense its in his heart to take care of our mother with the best care possible! The nurse, [name removed], is EXREMELY knowledgeable, caring and great with communicating with me and my family! We are at ease now knowing our mother is being provided with exceptional care! Would I have recommended this community a few months back..NO. Do I recommend this place now..YES!!

Don't do it!

Do not put your family member in this facility. Terrible issues (medication disbursement, hygiene issues, housekeeping issues and activities for residents). You will be very disappointed. Hard to find staff members. Extremely hard to get in touch with Executive Director or the Management team responsible for this community. Once Sodalis left it has gone downhill. Not one single employee works there anymore they all left.

AVOID THEM

They are bad!! They have had constant turnover. The food is terrible. They serve pizza and chili, and serve the food on paper plates. They are awful, and I would never use them again. They need to get a better food plan/menu, they have no security/safety, and they never answer the phones. They have had a change in upper management in the last few months. The only thing that is great, is the location.

tour review

Our family had an in person tour and our tour guide was very informative, professional and prepared. They had excellent control over their protocols and testing everyone who came in. However the facility itself was not appealing. It was a shared room and shower situation, it just like we were renting a room and nothing very personal.

The location for us is brilliant, and looks like a country setting

Sodalis - Garden Ridge is close to perfect, it is very homey and just a good fit for our loved one. Our loved one does not participate in the activities but from what we have seen they look fairly good. We do think the value for cost is right in line with other communities. Also a huge thing for our loved one was to find a place that allows smoking and this place does.

Definitely worth taking the time to look at among your list of other places.

The staff that I dealt with were super nice. They had just gotten a brand new community director, so I tried to give them some grace as he was getting acclimated. Thing might be better now that he's been there longer. But the staff were very helpful and seemed to really care. The day we dropped her off, I was not all that impressed, especially for a respite stay. We had to bring everything, including a shower curtain and her own toilet paper. When we got there to her room, there were still dirty sheets on the bed with dog hair all over them. They took care of it pretty quickly. I just wish the room had been ready for her. The room in general just didn't feel clean. It was dusty. They also told us that they did laundry every few days, but later I found dirty clothes stuck in the closet and on the shelf where her clean clothes were. She has dementia, so I think they just needed to be more on top of things with her and coach her more. I wasn't able to visit as much with Covid and couldn't tell what was going on. They told us their meals were chef prepared, but the one lunch I saw was something I could have prepared and was delivered cold. So I wasn't impressed, but I'm not sure what the other meals were like. She also had a health condition that required pushing lots of water, and I only saw an 8-oz glass of iced tea and a 4-oz glass of water. So I don't think they were pushing the water for her. But they just had a new director, and Snowmageddon had just happened. If I were talking to someone, I would say go visit because things may be better. I'd like to give credit to one of the maintenance workers. When we got there, we had to bring her own TV, and he worked really hard to make sure that got set up for her. He was so nice. She only had a bed in her room at the time, and he went and got a recliner for her so she would have something to sit in in her room. He was fabulous. And I really did like that the community is kind of away from things. She had a pretty view out her window and could watch the deer. So the aesthetics of the place, especially the outside, were very nice.

Sodalis @ Garden Ridge - Providing care and peace of mind.

My dad, and his wife, were in need assistance due to declining health and falls that resulted in hospital visits. Though both of them strongly opposed any assistance, and denied that they were in need, they reluctantly agreed to at least "go look" at some places. After visiting several facilities around the area, Sodalis @ Garden Ridge was on the short list. They both liked the nice "Texas Hill Country" location and feel of the facility. The super nice and understanding staff really made them comfortable and willing to "give it a try". Dad and his wife shared a single apartment, which was equipped with a full size bath with shower. It was large enough to hold everything that they needed. They were able to bring framed pictures and knick-knacks from home to decorate their apartment and make it feel like home. The staff have been very caring and accommodating, ensuring that they receive good care. I highly recommend Sodalis @ Garden Ridge and would suggest that if you are looking for a facility for your loved ones, to at least visit and see for yourself.

Peace of Mind that my mother in law is in good hands.

It is a safe place. The staff responds to you. The rooms are comfortable. They are willing to move you to a new room if you have an issue with the room. The food is average. My mother in law smokes they provided a safe comfortable place for her to go. Very non-judgemental and helpful staff.

Excellent Management and clinical staff. Thank you. Values include "integrity" and "engagement." There is a daily "Today's Activities" schedule which rarely happens. This leads me to question the "Engaged Living" motto and integrity value. I greatly appreciate the aides who do engage my mother!
