I was given a live video tour and could see the place in real time. They also offered monthly placement where some places wanted a yearly commitment. The price was reasonable.

I can't speak on the meals or dining, have not eaten there since Commonwealth took over. As far as activities, there are activities listed on the board in memory care are not being done while I am visiting. The residents sit and watch often childish tv shows and while I was there this past Monday once the tv show that was playing ended it was repeated. For value for cost, the bills that Commonwealth sends are confusing.

The staff had a great turnover by the time we got to know them one week they were gone the next they didn't seem to try very hard to interact [name removed]with activities.I would tell a friend to definitely check around although a lot of the places we looked at weren't much better.

The staff (aides) are very friendly and knowledgeable. But they are generally slow in responding to the resident's pendant alert system, especially at night. I brought this to the attention of the director several times. Housekeeping was great. Communication with the family was good. The move in process was also good. Meals are of the highest quality and the menu is on a good rotation. The executive chef knows what he is doing. One area of improvement would be better supervision of the aides at night. Also, a more timely dispensing of meds, especially PRN meds, needs to be worked on. I would definitely recommend Seaton Chesterfield, with the understanding that it isn't perfect. I realize that finding and retaining capable staff is difficult. This is probably true in all assisted living & nursing homes, so that should be taken into consideration.

They have wonderfully helpful. I personally haven't been there but a lady that visits my sister in law says it's extremely clean. Everyone has been very friendly and helpful. They treat my sister in law like family. She is clean and happy. They do lots of enrichment, crafts, dining out and even out to see the Christmas lights. If we had the funds we would keep her there permanently.

This is a nice facility. It is modern and clean. The administration and staff are accessible and super-caring. Overall, this facility is a very good value for the money. They could use a little more variety on their meals.

What we like the most about the Seaton Chesterfield community is the staff. The staff members are helpful and personable with the other residents. The community itself is also nicely decorated and inviting.

Our loved one would give the meals and dining a 0, they hate the meals that are served. I wish they were better staffed as far as having more people but I think that's a problem with most places. Everyone there is kind, and the place is kept very clean.

They have gone through 3 different chefs, but things are getting better now. General statement - wholesale administration changeover this spring. Have had some difficulty with medication administration. They are rigid rule followers. But, they worked well with me to get things right for my mother. Overall she is happy there.

My loved one is happy here and they are accessible to her needs. There is a separate PT/OT pair of professionals that are excellent and have been there the whole time we have been there. They are excellent. . Although there has been a very large turnover this year (only 2 LPNs remain and none of the major administrators remain we still feel it is the best fit. It is the best price around with very good overall ratings. The facility is newly renovated and updated. We recommend especially for seniors with some mobility issues. They will fit right in. A person with very little infirmity May feel a bit out of place. But puzzles and games (Bingo white board general games- scrabble- hang man - etc) in the living room are daily. They enjoy a happy hour every couple of weeks. And folks come in to sing with harp, or guitar, or piano or gospel singers. Even a bi monthly Rosary Group come. I really like that they give my mom a choice to use their pharmacy or that I can supply my own meds for her and they deliver them using the latest computer medicine delivery model to assure orders are correct. Only lacking is administration communication. It was better last year before all the changes. But my mother's personal needs were met and effectively dealt with easily.

My family and loved one have had an average experience with Seaton Chesterfield. We would recommend that you ask lots of questions to different staff members and residents during your tour to make sure you are getting the entire picture and correct information. Make sure you continue to advocate for your loved one and visit often to make sure your loved one is doing well. During the time our loved one has been here, it has been hard to find staff to answer our questions without being vague, and us having to ask further follow up questions.

Our family had an in person tour with Seaton Chesterfield and we thought the tour experience and the community was nice, but our loved one liked smaller buildings with a more intimate setting like [community name removed].
Our family had an in person tour with Seaton Chesterfield and overall the tour experience was okay, we knew it wasn't going to be the correct place for our loved one and the pricing just was not quite right.
My father has been here since [date removed]. It has gone down since Discovery Senior Living took over it earlier this year and changed to Seaton. Staffing is minuscule. The ones that have been there for a long time are awesome but are getting burned out. The company is more interested in making the place look pretty versus fixing important things like t plumbing. Currently they haven’t had hot water in 5 days. Multiple plumbing issues which several residents have had to temporarily relocate to vacant rooms .. including my dad who has been sleeping in his recliner since Christmas night with just a lamp (no TV,) and no one communicates to him about when he can get back to his own room. Last week residents didn’t get their meals until 9pm. The food is cold and awful. There have been issues over the last 6 months with lack of communication from staff, long response time for several falls my dad had, I can go on and on. We will be relocating him to a new facility very soon. Very mismanaged.

January 20, 2023Hi, Anonymous. At Seaton Chesterfield, we aim to provide positive experiences at all times. Is there anything we could do to make it better? Please call us at (804) 406-9484!
The minute we walked in we were impressed. The sweet smiles of the residents just immediately felt like little Aunts who were so glad you came to visit. I have to say every place we talked to, every place we went to, it was all about the money. The happy faces of the residents stayed with us for days. The lady who gave us the tour we just fell in love with her Laugh she felt like that fun cousin. Our 2nd visit was Halloween mom came and the same lady greeted us in a full witch costume. Her green face, false nose and fake eyelashes as she was seriously going over the paperwork was like the Carol Burnett Show. The 4.5 star rating made all the sense in the world to us just from meeting this one woman. THEN we met everyone else and they all take their jobs very seriously. I don't know who is in charge of hiring here but kudos to them because they have a wonderful group of People to care for your loved one. All I can say is don't waste your time visiting anywhere else. THIS PLACE IS HOME.

My relative died after being here only 21 days. The staff members working with him were friendly and kind, but the facility always had filthy floors. His health went down very quickly at this facility, and I think a lot of it had to do with inadequate care. He needed more than they offered but they accepted him as it is all about the money with Seaton. That became so painfully obvious when they charged thousands of dollars after his death! They use true voodoo accounting, and I will not be surprised if this has to go to court to settle. They tell you the first month is free, but all lies. You only get the remainder of the month free. For example, if your loved one moved in on the 21st, only the remainder of the month is free. That is VERY different! Being that our loved one died on day 21, we should have not owned any room rent. Instead, we were charged $5K for the month AFTER he died!

When the new owners took over, the old staff left and everything went downhill from there. They were not properly checking in on the residents like they should have been. My dad laid for 2 days before they had to call an ambulance because he was having some sort of reaction. I would not recommend placing anyone you care about here.

After speaking with Seaton Chesterfield they had told me that they were not appropriate and would not be able to meet my loved ones needs. A couple of weeks later they called me and asked if I had made a decision yet on a facility, so I was just very confused by the whole situation.
We really like their overall communication - they send out monthly newsletters to all the families. If there is a problem we can quickly address it to someone that is in charge and they are able to handle it in a timely manner. They are constantly working on improving things.

A Place for Mom has scored Commonwealth Senior Living of Bon Air 8.5 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
