I would not recommend Brookdale to my worst enemy! Hopefully, none of your clients will have to repeat our horrible experience with Brookdale. The facility is not bad -- it was actually pretty nice. The problem is the staff. They are totally understaffed and ill-staffed to provide even a minimum level of safe and effective care for dementia patients.

Since our first day at Brookdale Southpointe, we have felt cared for and supported. My aunt is the resident but as her primary caregiver, I need as much assistance as she does! We are glad we found such a nice place.

Mom was bedridden often at home. Now she is stronger, more active, and interested in life. The staff is friendly and makes us feel at home. We visit everyday and enjoy joining in with the activities the community has going on.

I loved Brookdale Southpoint. If it were up to me, this would have been my first choice for my dad. I found all of the staff to be warm and welcoming. They also were more than willing to work with us financially. The only drawback was that my dad would not have been able to have his own room.
Our family had an in person tour and it was one of our top two choices, it was a nice tour experience but it just did not feel as welcoming to our loved ones and we were really concerned about the stairs that are right in the front when you first walk in.
Brookdale Southpoint is an extremely clean community and the staff members have been excellent, they are super friendly. We do not have much experience with the meals and dining but everything seems to be good. We do not get to see the activities but we do know they have things going on in the dining hall. The director has been very helpful with different occasions and we appreciate that. Overall we have been very happy and we would recommend this community to other families.

My loved one (LO) lived in the Memory Care side. We started out ok, and then the situation devolved. The good: [name removed] is the sweetest and really tries to find programming that works for the residents in Memory Care. My LO ate great and gained much-needed weight. The bad and ugly: There is high turnover in nursing staff, care staff, leadership, and everyone. Additionally, staff shortages meant that AL staff was shared with Memory Care, and traveling nurses were used frequently. The AL staff were not trained in memory care and tended to struggle. The housekeeping staff was impossible to keep. The care staff was lazy. Daytime staff did not believe in doing laundry, tidying up patient rooms, changing patients' diapers regularly, etc. Day staff did the minimum: medication and feeding. Night staff did much of the work but were limited. This means my LO's room was always dusty, floors were sticky, trash piles, etc. I found dead roaches in my LO's room multiple times. They do not care.

Response from Brookdale Southpoint
June 22, 2022We take your comments seriously and are committed to providing quality care and services to our residents and their families. Our management team has reviewed these concerns and we wish to assure you the safety and well-being of our residents is our top priority.
Our family had an in person tour and the person we took the tour with was phenomenal but we were just turned off by the facility itself - it did not look clean enough and we did not see any activity going on whatsoever. It was also the most expensive out of all the place we checked out, but we did like how it is a single story building and our loved one could of had a little outside porch.
Response from Brookdale Southpoint
June 6, 2022We are sorry to hear your tour of Brookdale Southpoint did not meet your expectations. We want to thank you for taking the time to visit and provide feedback. Our staff is committed to providing the highest-quality service and care and we will share your feedback with our management team.
This community was more than what my loved one needed at this time. It was geared more for nursing care and not what my loved one needed. They were very kind and thorough but we did not see many residents and the ones that we did see all looked medicated. It just did not look like a lively community.
Response from Brookdale Southpoint
December 14, 2021We appreciate you taking the time to visit and share your feedback. We are committed to quality service and care and will review your feedback with our management team.
Our tour was absolutely wonderful. They’re a really nice group of people. It was a little bit more expensive than other places we looked at, but I like that they accept Medicaid if something were to happen and we would need that down the road. The girl I spoke with there will call me every so often to see if we’re doing okay. She and I have made friends, and she lets me know they are there for us if we need anything.
Some activities they had for the residents were movie nights, painting and art classes. Our loved one didn't always participate in the activities due to her memory, but when we did see the activities it seemed like the residents were enjoying themselves. The food they served was about average. Our loved one had three separate rooms while she was there, the first was in assisted living and it was pretty nice. The second was a shared room which seemed a little cramped. And the third room was in memory care and it was terrible. This is an affordable community if you are not looking to over spend, but this community was understaffed and under trained. It was very rate that you would find an employee there that would put the residents interests and needs ahead of their own.
