Due to the covid restrictions and the time our loved one moved in she has not really been able to experience the dining service and really the activities. However the value for cost is about average and the staff members have continued to be very friendly and welcoming.

I spoke to [name removed]. $1,870 per month for a one bedroom. Includes three meals, 7 days a week. Cleaning and sheets once a week. They offer add-on services. IE companion car for $11 an hour. They will introduce her to others the day she moves in. Opportunity for socialization. I visited [date removed]. The place is older, not fancy, but nice. Residents are 62 and older. Nice dining room, free seating and lots to do. Free shuttle services to grocery store, mall, etc. Small store on site. $2,500 buy in which transfers to all Brookdale Communities. This facility is IL only but there are other communities around with a higher level of support.

At first I thought this property is too big but after visiting I like how they have it split in half. I liked the floor plan and the price is just what I need minus not providing cable and internet. Now being hopeful.

Our family was able to do an in person tour experience and the tour was good, but we just felt the community was a little to crowded and wasn't going to be that perfect fit for our loved one
The community is very neat and clean and the management lives on site. Everyone here has been very friendly and nice. The staff is very good and do a great job. I would recommend this community to others

Brookdale has a lot of of activities and a lot of stuff to do. Brookdale really does try hard to take care the residents. We chose this community because location, price was good, and we needed quick availability, We were pretty pleased with what they offer. They are friendly and warm.

This is really an independent living community only. The apartments are well kept up, clean, and spacious. The people who live there have really developed a community feel. The staff are good at reaching out. The have a newcomers luncheon for the first eight weeks. We are so lucky that she lives there. We looked at many other places, and this one is just fantastic.

I like that it is a part of a larger system so if he needed more care he could receive it and would be given priority.

I am completely satisfied with my move to Brookdale. The staff are all friendly and helpful. The residents all seem happy and well adjusted. The dining facilities are clean and the food is well prepared. There are plenty of activities available if you want to participate, but no one forces you to do anything. There seems to be plenty of services available for health and wellness. I have no need for any of them, but it is reassuring to know that they are available if needed.

[Name removed] gave me a tour of facility and we had lunch with four residents. The menu selections for that day were varied and my salad selection was very good and fresh. Meeting residents was most enjoyable and made me realize the importance of speaking to residents and hearing their stories. I found this facility well kept with several convenient elevators. All apartments opened to the outside. Although the facility is 40 years old, attempts were made to update as much as possible. All master baths had walk-in showers with handrails, slightly elevated toilets and convenient storage. Most did not have washer /driers but community ones were located very close. I got the impression that prior to move-in, the facility would consider making updates requested if reasonable. All units were old in comparison to other retirements facilities I have toured. There seems to be many interests and activities and lots of friendly, upbeat residents. Independent only units but resources are available. I loved the location amid a residential area and close to Memorial Mall. Busing available also.

A relative resides at Brookdale.... The food quality & serving size has hit "rock bottom". Brookdale apparently made a lot of changes in recent months...Not for the better! The meals should be healthy & tasty. (They were in the beginning, before the food service company changed.) There is usually a credit balance left on his "meal ticket", as most of the time the food is not desirable to him. The serving sizes are very small, others have expressed this also. The main reason for him becoming a resident was to have good meals...that is not happening!! (He is extremely easy to please when it comes to food.) They need(ed) a backup plan when any of the shuttles are out of service (whatever the reason). Having one available is a plus. I, personally I am VERY DISSAPOINTED and wish he had taken more time before selecting Brookdale. The staff & residents are extremely friendly & I am grateful for that!

I wish we had done this sooner. I’m sure you have heard this many times. And it is true in our case. The staff is very willing, even eager, to listen and consider any request and, if possible, help you resolve the request. I do sorta wish the Bistro had a more varieted choice of food, but, hey, you can’t please everyone. I so far have no complaints - the no house cleaning had me from the start.

My parents currently reside at this complex. My mother-in-law resides in another Brookdale facility (Assisted Living) in a different city in Texas. All three complain about the food. At this complex, they have had "Town Hall Meetings" and the food complaints are not addressed. The main menu is basically the same between the two facilities. Here is an example: "Roast beef" was served at this facility. My parents could not cut it and neither could the staff. The exact same issue happened during the same week with the "roast beef" at my mother-in-law's facility. She sent hers back and received a cheese sandwich in lieu of a hot meal. My parents have tried almost everything on the menu so that they can reap the benefits of the meal plan. The way the meal plan is priced, my parents lose money every month because they choose not dine at the facility due to the food offered. Though the staff in the food area are pleasant and try to accommodate the residents , I believe their hands are tied as to what they serve. If you are hoping for your loved one to receive a good hot meal, I recommend visiting and eating several times over a month long period to get a true idea about the food. I realized this is hard to do because sometimes moving a loved one has to be done in a short time.

The management staff has been the worst experience I have ever dealt with. There needs to be more a background check on their residents instead of let anyone sign a lease. My experience has been nothing but horrible. Yes they are inexpensive for a independent care, but your loved one is exposed to the elements and walks a long way to eat and has one meal a day for that price.

$2124- 3rd floor— prices much higher than quoted through a place for Mom. cable not included. not much Wi-Fi. one computer room with 3 computers. dining didn’t seem to be a priority. rent only covers ONE meal. small dining room. more a la Carte dining vs meals being served. only 1 security guard for entire complex some activities available but never saw master calendar. more like an apartment complex. 4 studio apts. 511 apts- huge complex, lot of walking on concrete— it’s almost too big. a ton of walking would be required. moving — thru 2/13 - Anniv incentive, lease signed, every March free. partnered with a moving company w/ good rates. waiving pet deposit. $2500 one time community fee.

We toured this community and it was nice. The staff was helpful and they answered all of my questions. The apartments were dark it depresses us if it's dark. They were very friendly here it just didn't fit our needs.

My wife, and I am doing well with our move to this community. We are settled in, and doing good. Everyone has been kind, and welcoming. They do a good job with the cleanliness around the community. There are good meals provided, and nice activities offered. Everything has worked out good for us since our move to this facility.

A Place for Mom has scored Brookdale Memorial City 9.6 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
