My dad liked the location, staff and it was in his budget. When it rained/stormed, the lights were out 3 days. A senior apartment should have backup generators. I am glad my dad got to spend his last few weeks at Brookdale.... Read more

Brookdale Memorial City seems like a nice place, overall! The facility is clean and well kept, and the people are friendly, My one complaint would be that I think they could do a little more when it comes to decorating the hallways, they can feel a little sparse and institutional. But overall we're very pleased!

I have enjoyed living at this community. The entire staff has been great about coming to see me and asking if there is anything they can do for me. They keep the community clean. This is a larger community as it consists of 8 buildings. They have 2 dining rooms and 2 restaurants. The food is fair as some days are better than others. They offer a wide variety of choices. Some of the larger apartments like mine have a laundry room in them.

I have only been at Brookdale Memorial City for a short time and I am still learning the ins and outs. The staff are attentive to each resident and helps them when they need it. I have not yet had the opportunity to try the food as I do still cook for myself. I have met a few people here and while I have not had a chance to participate in the activities they do offer a wide variety of them. I would recommend this community if you are looking for a quiet place with a friendly atmosphere and where most of the residents keep to themselves.

Overall our experience with Brookdale Memorial City has been a good one! It's a nice looking place, the people are friendly, and my loved one has settled in well. Our only issue is that it is a long walk from my loved one's room to the main dining area, so if she misses the hours that the cafeteria near her room is open she has to walk quite a distance.

Everyone on the staff is extremely helpful and friendly. Have never encountered anyone who did not great me with a hello and a smile and that includes the other residents. The grounds are beautiful and well maintained. The housekeeping staff always does a good job of cleaning my apartment. The food is quite good and there is a variety of menu items. There are lots of activities if you want to participate and transportation for you needs also.

Our visit with the salesperson was great. She answered all of our questions. The apartment that we agreed on meets our needs and price range. We ate lunch which the sales person paid for. The food we chose was good. We ask about activities, exercise equipment and pool, which we were given a chance to see. By squeezing in and seeing several places, it is hard to remember and keep all the places separated. We were on a time limit and would have liked to spend more time at the place. We were told that carpet and apartment would be cleaned and repaired if it needed it. I did request to our salesperson that I wanted laminate in the dining-living area but was not told that there would be quite a large cost to us to have that done. There was a misunderstanding about that and carpet was installed throughout the apartment. (I have a problem with dust and carpet is harder to keep dust out.) If we wanted it changed out it would take longer for move=in date. (We were given January free because of not selling our house.) I gave in to the carpet and may be sorry for that. We are sending our furniture down after the 15th of February and we will follow as soon as our house sells. Will let you know more after we have moved in.

I toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. The facility was well kept and clean, although a bit on the older side. The staff I met were friendly and helpful, as well. However, I don't think my Dad was quite ready for this level of care, he needed somewhere a little more active.

I know that my loved one really likes the Brookdale Memorial City, including all of the staff members there. They do not recycle though, so I think my loved one would really appreciate that and value if they did it.

I am very happy at Brookdale Memorial City. The only thing that could be improved a little is in the bistro. They need more help. The girls are running their legs off trying to do everything. Residents have to wait a long time just to get a slice of pizza. I would like to see them hire more staff. Everyone is so wonderful here. They have wonderful activities and entertainment. I am just so happy here.

Response from Brookdale Memorial City
August 19, 2015Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We will share your feedback with our management team.
We are one week into my mother-in-law's new living arrangement at Brookdale Memorial City (BMC), Houston, TX. The facility is wonderful, but do expect some costs up front, such as a $2,500.00 non-refundable deposit and possible pet deposits. A transition team was offered to help move her and set up her apartment, but their bid came in at almost $2,400 (independent contractor). We chose to hire local movers and move her ourselves. We now realize that at her house, she was likely experiencing boredom/depression. Here she is active, eating really good food, enjoying the maid staff, and trash pick up (inclusive in the rent). Her only expenses include her internet, cable, and phone. It seems she meets a new friend each day; even though a few are a little reticent at first to welcome a new person, she really enjoys the interaction. She missed the first big field trip because she didn't get her name on the list in time or have the $35.00 in cash to pay for it, but now we know to make our decisions faster next time. Her stay at BMC is funded by her social security benefits and the sale of her home. All of us children are still working, and having her at BMC means that she can see us AND enjoy active independent senior living (with her beloved pets) without feeling that she has been "put away" somewhere. To us, that is priceless.

I think they do everything pretty well. There is a lot of sick people here, that's why they move in here, but they take good care of them and have caretakers that are very, very nice.

Well I think the friendliness is the biggest reason why we selected them. It's a good location for us and we're really pleased with how friendly they are.
