Assisted Living
My mother really liked it here for the time she stayed which was about 4 months. But I don't think she realized she didn't need to be in an assisted living facility from that point on. It was great for her when she got out of the hospital but not necessary for her to continue living there. All the people were super nice and went above and beyond for her. I never really saw any cleanliness issues though it did smell of urine once in awhile. The staff was generally always very nice. Some more nice than others, once in a while there would be an aid that wasn't over accommodating but generally never any negative things about anyone. Quality of care was good for my mom but I heard many stories of other people not being cared for very well. Although I didn't see any of this in my own eyes I heard it quite often from my mom that her friends were not being cared for properly there. So I can only comment on what I heard from her. My mom was definitely one of their easier residents. Overall I think my mom enjoyed the food though there was times when she complained a little bit about it. But I'll be honest she complains about the food at the new place too. So there you go. My mom loved all the activities that they had at aviva. I think she would have been happy just doing anything. She just likes to keep busy and socialize. So she always enjoyed the activities they did. I think the value you get from staying there is worth the money. I priced out so many other places that seem to be comparable to Aviva and cost so much more. Now obviously we didn't get a chance to stay at any of those other places so I can only compare dollar value by place. It's definitely one of the cheaper places in town.
We are very happy. They care. They care about my mother they care about us being happy they care about how the room looks. They care about the activities. They are very understanding when my mom is upset, and they have no problem sitting with her for as long as it takes. I was so impressed. I have referred two other people there and they are just as happy.
Just like every other nursing home and assisted living community they are understaffed, but our loved one does feel comfortable and the staff members are very friendly.

It’s typical for seniors and their families to use several types of payment methods to cover the cost of assisted living expenses in Toledo. Common payment options for senior care include retirement income, savings accounts, and private or public health care insurance. Here you’ll find information on various ways to use private pay sources to fund assisted living, plus information on how public health insurance programs can help offset care costs. We provide senior resources in Toledo for veterans benefits, Medicare, and Medicaid programs that help Toledo seniors cover some assisted living expenses.
Private pay is where most families and their senior loved ones begin when deciding how to pay for long-term care. Many assets could be put toward long-term assisted living. In addition to retirement savings in a 401(k) or IRA, seniors also use retirement income, such as pensions or Social Security benefits, to pay for long-term assisted living costs.
Additionally, if your loved one has an existing long-term care insurance policy, they may be able to use it to pay for some of the care costs in assisted living. Each policy may differ slightly on what’s covered and how long a senior may need to wait before they can start claiming benefits. So it’s important to review your loved one’s policy carefully. Life insurance policies might also be surrendered or sold to free up cash, depending on the policy.
Depending on your loved one’s circumstances, they may have several of the following options available to help them free up private funds for assisted living:

Facilities with multiple levels of care on campus make aging in place a reality for many people — those trying to avoid the hassle and stress that moving can bring. The most common care combination found in our partner Toledo communities is assisted living and memory care.
Assisted living communities that offer on-site memory care have a secure area or wing of the community just for residents living with more advanced dementia. Typically, this makes it easier won’t have to move to an entirely new community. They can still visit their friends from assisted living at large community gatherings.
A small number of our partner assisted living communities offer an even wider range of care types on one campus, like independent living on top of assisted living and memory care.
Independent living is a good option for seniors ready to say goodbye to home maintenance and live in a community of their peers. Independent living communities typically offer convenient services and amenities to make daily life easier and more fun for residents.
