Memory Care
Overall Oaks at Fayetteville is a great place We're very pleased with the facility and they staff. They need to work on activities on the memory care side - taking the residents outside, etc. They have fewer things going on in memory care than in assisted living. But overall it's a well-maintained and well-run facility.
My father was in the memory care area, they do an excellent job with meal time, making sure everyone is there and eating out if they need help they would feed them. The community nurse Helga is great, she always kept me informed if anything with my dad would change. The only improvement might be to have an additional person in the memory care area, it is small but difficult for 2 to manage.
It was difficult to get written documentation upfront of the facility's policies. I felt that the administrative staff that I met presented the facility well. I just like to see everything in writing. Apparently family is not able to call a loved one directly in their room. Summerset required you to go through the front desk to be connected. But even so, I could never really reach my loved one. The times that I called the operator to set up a FaceTime meeting or just call to speak to him, they always said he was not in his room and they couldn't quite put their hands on where he was at the facility at the time, walking around, etc. I didn't feel like a lot of effort was put into locating him so I could talk to him. And they completely discourage / do not allow visiting in the first several weeks, their rationale being to allow for dementia patients to adjust to being there. But that was absolutely heartbreaking to me.
