I would say it has been overall a very positive experience for my uncle and I would choose it again after him being there for a few months now.

Petersburg Home For Ladies

This is my first experience with assisted living as far as Alzheimers and from the various places I visited, this is by far the best place I saw, even halfway done you could see it was better. They have been great, there's only 9 patients on that wing right now, they're doing a good job. There's some issues, but i think that's with any facility, but they address it, they're very responsive and fix them quickly. They have been really wonderful to work with. I know my mother, when we took her there she wasn't doing anything but sitting in a chair watching tv, she hadn't taken a shower in 10 years (she was getting sponge baths) and they've gotten her in the shower; she has a walker but wouldn't use it and now she's walking around with it, she loves the food, shes a good cook so thats a big statement for her to make, they've got them doing puzzles and crafts which she never does, shes sort of like the den mother keeping them all together. It's been a big turn around for her and such an improvement in her quality of life. I also like that the staff wears white, it gives it more of a professional feel so you know who the staff is because a lot of times they're just wearing regular clothes with name tags so you're not sure who works there.

My only complain is they need to answer emails from family members faster. But overall the facility is really fantastic. And my mom is happy there.

Nursing Homes

A nursing home provides room and board to at least two seniors who have no personal relation to the administrator. This type of residence offers its residents around-the-clock care administered by registered nurses. These nurses provide healthcare services for people who cannot properly care for themselves due to their aging.

Nursing homes can be a convenient and comfortable living option for persons 65 years or older, however nursing homes will commonly admit individuals 55 and above which is uncommon for other senior care types. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to make complaints, be free from restraints, get proper privacy, property, and living arrangements, and exercise your rights as a U.S. citizen. A large number of occupants are bachelors or widows with smaller social support groups, and almost fifty percent of nursing home residents are older than the age of 85. Many occupants of nursing homes are with behavioral problems, which can encompass verbal outbursts, resisting aid, or an urge to wander. Nursing homes are required to provide routine personal hygiene items, dietary services, medically-related social services, and room and bed maintenance services to residents. The most frequent mental issue experienced by residents of nursing homes is dementia, which can hinder their and familiarity with their surroundings, memory function, and decision making capabilities.
